Has carrying your luggage up and down in your dorm(宿舍) building been a headache? Zhejiang University City College has come up with an interesting way to solve this problem. They use a special ladder (梯子) to lift luggage from the first floor. Instead of being so tired, students only need to sit in their dorm and wait for their luggage.

Chengdu University: Assigning ( 分 配 )roommates with big data

Getting along with roommates can be hard when everyone has different habits. Chengdu University offers a "roommate-matching system". It means that after students fill out a questionnaire (问卷), including questions about their hobbies and sleeping habits, the system will choose the most suitable (合适的) roommates for them according to their answers.

With kind teachers and a good atmosphere(氛围), students will prepare better for the new term.

Rick Hoyt was born unable to use his voice, arms or legs in 1962. Doctors advised his parents to send him away, but they chose to raise Rick themselves.

With great effort, Rick learned to write his thoughts with computer at the age of 12. One day in 1977, Rick told his father, Dick Hoyt, that he wanted to run in a 5-mile race to raise money to help a schoolmate. Though Dick never ran more than a mile at a time, he still tried. They completed (完成) the race with father pushing the wheelchair(轮椅), finishing next to last. But that changed Rick's life. "Dad, when we were running, I feel like I wasn't disabled anymore!"

And that sentence changed Dick. He continued to give Rick that feeling as often as possible. In 1980, he and Rick joined in Boston Marathon(马拉松) and together they completed 32 Boston Marathons, they also participated in more than 1,000 other races. In 1992 they completed a run and bike race across the US that covered 3,735 miles in 45 days.

In March 2021, Dick Hoyt passed away. In May 2023, Rick died. Rick, along with Dick, inspired(激励) millions of people with disabilities to believe in themselves, set goals and complete something unexpected.

The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The National Air and Space Museum in Washington. And the German Historical Museum in Berlin.

 And those are only part of the list. 

 Children from more than 180, 000 families in China can now go on virtual(虚拟的) tours of ten world-famous museums. The programs provide video clips, cartoons and commentary(实时解说) by Chinese experts. The shows are produced by Aha School, an education company. The families each pay 15 yuan to watch. The company also gives away the programs to 174 rural(乡村的) classrooms. 

 Ma Xiaoyan is a teacher in Sichuan. He says the children there are very poor. They have never visited a museum. For some of them, even going to the closest town is difficult. 

 Educators are excited about the museum project. It shows how live streaming(在线直播) can help improve rural education. The technology is already widely popular on social media. However, it was not until recently that it had been used for education. 

 Aha School is not alone. A few urban schools in China have also begun sharing their lessons with rural schools. But some of the projects fail to produce the expected effect. That is because students in rural classrooms have very different backgrounds. 

 The museum project of Aha School has been a success. Pan Lisheng, the head of the company, says the problem doesn't lie in the technology. Instead, it is because few educators have worked out how to make the lessons interesting. 

 Pan and his workmates make sure that their programs will interest children from any background. "Every child is a unique(独一无二的) flower, " Pan said. 

There is no way you can get on the train without your ID card now. In the near future, people will use a digital (数字的) ID on their smartphones. What a great thing it is!

On March 11, 2022, the government (政府) said it would introduce (介绍) the digital ID cards with 18 numbers. People can know some information from the ID numbers. The government wanted to make people's lives easier by introducing the digital ID cards.

The government said the digital ID cards could allow the information to be gotten by a simple scan with a smartphone. The government would also help the old people use the digital ID cards because they can't use smartphones. The government hoped that the digital ID cards would be popular. The old could also use ID cards to make their lives easier.

In fact, China started a test of the digital ID cards in 2018. It allowed people in cities including Quzhou, Hangzhou and Fuzhou to apply for digital national ID cards on Alipay. The digital ID cards could be used to open bank accounts, check into hotels and buy high-speed railway tickets. It's great.
