In the summer vacation, I took a trip to Beijing with my brother. My brother was 18 years old and was in Grade 3 of high school. He knew a lot about the history of Beijing. He told me a lot about it and helped me know more about Beijing and our country on this trip. 

We went to the Palace Museum on the first day. We learnt more about our history. We bought some gifts there—a book for my sister Lily, a T-shirt for my father and a bag for my mother. And we bought some cards.

My brother was interested in universities(大学) in Beijing and wanted to study in one of them. So we visited the universities in Beijing in the next two days. We had a good time walking by the lake in Peking University. 

On the fourth day, we went to the Great Wall. It was beautiful and there were a lot of people. On the fifth day, we went shopping, tasted much delicious food and went boating in the Summer Palace. The sixth day was a rainy day, and we didn't go out. 

We spent six days in Beijing from 19th July to 24th July. We were very happy and got a lot from the trip. 

You may have played Ant Forest. It is a game. Users collect "energy" to grow 1 "trees" online. Amazingly, when this "energy" reaches a certain level, real 2 are planted in deserts by some organizations and companies in China! It seems that our country's effort, along with India's, has made a 3 world.

A 4 by NASA in February showed that China and India have made the Earth greener over the past two years. Since 2000, the Earth's green leaf area has 5 by over 5 million square kilometers. That's as 6 as the Amazon rainforest! NASA said this is 7 due to big tree-planting programs in both countries.

"China and India cover only 9% of the planet's land area in vegetation (植被), 8 they did one third of the increased greening for the whole world," said Chi Chen, the study's lead author and a researcher at Boston University. China was the 9 contributor (贡献者), adding 25% of the increase, while India added 6.8%.

10 the past ten years, China has done a great job of greening the land. Since 1978, China has had a national forestation (植树造林) project 11 as the "Great Green Wall". Trees have been 12 in thirteen provinces in northern China to act as windbreaks (防风林).

With China's success in forestation, the United Nations Environment Program 13 China is a good example for others to follow. "China is one of the most 14 countries in greening the desert. It also has 15 to share with the world," said UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim.

We have learned English for several years, so we can read English books and magazines without the teachers' help. We feel good when we finish 1 an English story or a whole book 2 ourselves. But3 can we be a better reader?

It is important 4 some suitable books. Then what books are suitable? Well, I think we should first choose books that are not too difficult or too 5 . Then when we are reading, we should 6 let new words take too much of our attention. Just do as we often do in our own language. While we are reading, try to 7 the meanings of the new words, and try to decide which of the key words we could guess and which we have to 8 in the dictionary.

If we follow these 9 , we will be10 in reading English books and magazines.

September 28th is Good Neighbor* Day. Do you want to be a good neighbor? And what can you do to make the neighborhood a great place? Remember, it's never too late if we start with some new habits.

Stop and talk. You can do one thing to be a good neighbor—stop and talk with your neighbor. Say hello, talk about the weather, or talk about their pet dogs.

Everyone can do this very easily.

Don't be noisy. It's OK for you to watch TV or listen to music at your home in the late evening. But you need to turn them down*. And if you don't live on the first floor, do not play basketball or dance in the house.

Be helpful. Good neighbors are always happy to help each other. If you are free, you can help the old in the neighborhood do some cleaning. If you are good at playing a ball game, you can teach some children in the neighborhood how to play it.

If you can follow these, you will be a good neighbor for sure.
