Today I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (go) on a school trip. We {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (visit) the science museum and it was really {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (interest). We got there so fast by train. We saw some farms {#blank#}4{#/blank#} villages along the way. At the museum, I learned a lot {#blank#}5{#/blank#} robots. I didn't know they could play chess with {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (we). It was so cool! Then the guide {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(teach) us how to make {#blank#}8{#/blank#} model robot. I took a lot of great {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (photo) too. After that, I went to the gift shop and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (buy) some lovely gifts for my parents. They weren't expensive. All in all, it was an exciting day. 

Ever since "Mother Nature" gave me life, I expected to grow tall and big.

As a young 1 , I was well protected in the forest. I used to 2 a good time with my friends under the blue sky and 3 the river. Our only purpose was to stand high. My pal, Tim often said, "All I ask for is to be 4 the whole day."

365 days passed and we grew straight. On that day, it was our 5 birthday, people came, moved us from the 6 and put us on their trucks. "I don't want to go!" Tim cried.

After a long journey, we arrived in a completely different place with 7 green. Here we were planted in a line. 8 the wind blew strongly, I could not even open my eyes to see Tim 9 beside me. So we needed enough 10 to grow thicker and higher to stop the wind.

As time went by, we finally 11 much stronger. I could keep my eyes open in the wind! I even found the blue sky was back!

This was no longer a no-man's-land, and hundreds of visitors came here. A man took a picture of us with his 12 . "Thank you. We can enjoy clear days 13 worrying about sand storms." A young girl jumping up and down came over and 14 me. "Thank you," she said. "It's you that have turned the desert into a green land!"

Tim and I smiled at each other, feeling 15 . The sun was shining brightly in the bluer sky.

As many as 110 middle and high school students from more than 90 countries and regions(地区) took part in the 16th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for ForeignSecondary School Students. The competition ran from Oct 16th to Oct 30th in Beijing and Yunnan last year. In it, they took cultural trips and answered questions about Chinese characters(汉字) and Chinese culture.

Attracted by Chinese dramas

Folke Borgstorm is an 18-year-old from Sweden. When he visited Beijing for the competition, he bought a jade necklace(玉石项链). Borgstorm said he knew about jade from a Chinese TV show. "A main character in the TV show wears jade and it makes him look cool. Jade can have many colors like green, red and white," said Borgstrom. He became interested in it and started to learn more about it.

Botgstorm also enjoyed watching popular short dramas. "Most Sweden TV shows tell of boring everyday life," he said. "But Chinese shows have interesting stories."

Amazed by a Chinese host

Many of the students hoped to learn more about Chinese culture on the trip, but Ai Akasaki, from Japan, wanted to meet her idol, Sa Beining. Sa is a well-known host in China. The 16-year-old girl watches the Spring Festival Gala(春晚) every year and likes the funny Sa. "I also watched other shows Sa hosts, like Everlasting Classics(《经典咏流传》). In those beautiful songs, I found Chinese poetry is as beautiful as Japanese haiku(俳句)," said Ai.

Unluckily, she didn't meet Sa this time. But she wants to be a journalist(记者) in China and work with Sa one day.

①" Class, this is John Evans, " Mrs. Parmele introduced him to us, trying to give him a warm welcome. We saw a boy in old clothes. John looked around and smiled, hoping somebody would smile back. Nobody did. He kept on smiling anyway. I held my breath as Mrs. Parmele looked around the classroom, hoping she wouldn't notice the empty desk next to mine. She did, and pointed him at that desk. He looked over at me as he sat down, but I looked away. 

②By the end of his first week, John was at the bottom of our class. I told my mother one evening at dinner, " He even doesn't know how to count. " However, as I ate lunch with him the next day and listened to him, I realized that it was pleasant to be with him. After lunch, I decided that I would be John's friend. 

③One night, as Mother came into my bedroom, I said, " Mom, tomorrow is John's birthday, and he's not going to get anything. Nobody cares. "" Don't worry, " Mom said as she kissed me goodnight. "I'm sure everything will be fine. "

④I wished John a happy birthday in the morning, and his smile showed me that he was glad I had remembered. By mid- afternoon I had almost decided that birthdays weren't that important. Then, as Mrs. Parmele was writing on the blackboard, I heard a familiar(熟悉的) voice singing the birthday song. I looked up and saw Mother coming through the door with a tray(托盘) of cupcakes and a present in her hand. Mrs. Parmele also joined in. Mother found John looking like a rabbit in car headlights. She put the cupcakes and the gift on John's desk and said, " Happy birthday, John. " John stood there with his mouth open, unable to believe what was happening. While John ha ppily shared his cupcakes with the class, taking the tray from desk to desk, I caught Mother watching me and she smiled. 

⑤John Evans moved away soon, and I never heard from him again. But I always remember the happiness in a boy's eyes, and the taste of the sweetest cupcake. 

Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you to develop a healthy attitude (态度). A study shows that the people who are more confident are much happier. They can have more chances to make themselves successful. But how to be more confident? Here are some suggestions: 

Speak loud 

When you are not confident, you can't do well what you want to do. You speak in such a low voice that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so that people can hear you clearly. The high voice can help you become more confident. 

Play sports 

Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence. 

Encourage yourself Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you have done well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody happy? Give yourself praise for the good things you've done. 

 Get rid of (消除) fear 

Fear comes along with failure (失败). But it's easy to overcome (克服) if you know that failure is part of your life. Don't hide your head just because you said something stupid last time. Try to start again and believe you can do better. 

Pick up a hobby 

If you like singing, sing as much as you can. In some ways, a hobby can make you outstanding. And it will make you happy and confident. 

People have told stories about Robin Hood for more than 700 years. Nobody knows if he was a real person or an invented character. In the legends(传说), Robin was quite smart and had a playful sense of humour. He loved playing jokes and tricks on people. The stories say that Robin Hood was a skilled archer(弓箭手)and he always carried a bow and arrow.

He wore green clothes and a hat with a green feather. He lived in Sherwood Forest with a group of outlaws(逃犯), known as his "Happy Men". The group included Friar Tuck, Little John, who was unusually tall, and Robin's true love, Maid Marian.

Sherwood Forest was a royal(皇家的)hunting forest in county of Nottinghamshire in England. Most people thought that forests were dangerous places to go. People travelling through the forests were often robbed by outlaws.

"Your money, please, my Lord!"

"Oh no, it's Robin Hood!"

The stories say that Robin Hood only took money from rich people so that he could give it to people who needed it. So he became famous for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor".

The Sheriff(郡长)of Nottinghamshire was Robin's arch-enemy. It was the sheriff's job to keep the woods safe and to make sure that nobody stole the king's deer. The Sheriff of Nottinghamshire tried to catch Robin Hood, but never succeeded.

Centuries ago, people loved to tell each other stories of Robin Hood. Later he became a famous character in books, and nowadays Robin is still a well-loved hero in books, theatre, TV and films.
