On 18th November.1908, three men went up in a balloon (气球).They started early in London. The headman was Augusta Gaudron, and the other two men were Tannar and Maitland. They had a big balloon and they were ready for a long way.

Soon they heard the sea. They were carrying the usual rope, and it was hanging down from the basket of the balloon. At the end of the rope they had tied a metal box. This could hold water, or it could be empty. So they were able to change its weight. It was for use over the sea. They were also carrying some bags of sand.

After the sun rose, the balloon went higher. It went up to 3,000 metres, and the air was very cold. The water in the balloon became ice. Snow fell past the men's basket, and they could see more snow on the ground. The men tried to throw out some more sand, but it was hard. They tried to break the icy sand with their knives, but it was not easy. The work was slow and they were still falling, so they had to drop some whole bags of sand. One of them fell on an icy lake and made a black hole in the ice.

At last they pulled the box into the basket. It was still snowing, so they climbed to get away from the snow. They rose to 5,100 metres! Everything became icy. They were so cold that they decided to land. They came down in Poland heavily but safely. They had travelled 1,797kilometres from London!

What does a lifelong learner look like? Lifelong learners never think of themselves as the greatest experts(专家)in anything. They continue to learn and bring a great deal to the groups they belong to. What does a lifelong learner look like? Here are some of their main characteristics(特征). 

They are knowledge seekers. They are always searching for much information on a topic they're interested in and looking for new experience or opportunities to improve their knowledge or skills. 

They are social and self-directed learners. They like taking different courses and taking part in discussions around subjects they are interested in. ____ They also know their own learning styles, and their strengths and weaknesses. They can plan and organize their own learning. 

They are critical(批判性的)thinkers. They always use a lot of ways to analyze(分析)and synthesize(合成)information. From their research they judge the information to see if it is useful for the question at hand. 

They are problem solvers. They will meet different problems while learning. However, they usually see problems as challenges and life experiences and try to stand above them. 

Wonderful Park has finally reopened after nearly three months of repair! Since my sister Julia's birthday is coming. yesterday my parents took us to the park to have some fun. Julia was very excited as she had never been to Wonderful Park before.

We arrived at the park early in the morning. While we were buying tickets at the ticket office, Julia was told that she could enjoy free admission during her birthday month. She could also get some pin s and stickers for free. Julia was over the moon with her birthday presents. After buying our tickets, Julia wanted to ride the Ferris wheel. However, Mum suggested going to the King's Theatre first as a musical was about to begin.

We were attracted by the delicious smell of popcorn while we were on the way to the King's Theatre. We bought two bags of chocolate popcorn and it tasted good. Before we entered the theatre, there were two cartoon characters standing at the entrance. They were lovable so Julia and I took some photos with them. The show began at ten forty- five. Though I am not a big fan of musicals, it was really great. All the performers sang and danced well. There was a huge round of applause(掌声) when the show ended. Then, we went to the ride. It was the last stop and also the most enjoyable part of our trip.

Here are the photos we took. The first one shows the chocolate popcorn. It was yummy! Next are the photos we took at the entrance of the King's Theatre. The cartoon characters are giving me and Julia a big hug! Here comes the photo that I like best. We took this after we ro de on the Ferris wheel. Dad is putting his arm around Mum's shoulders. Julia is making a V sign with her fingers and I am making a silly face. It is a nice family photo. We all look forward to visiting the park again!

It's always a good thing to have a hobby. For Miss Patty, a school bus driver in Erie County, her hobby of knitting (编织) has made her really touch the community (社区). 

Miss Patty always wanted to do something with her free time to help the students. After a talk with one of the students, things took a turn from knitting one hat to knitting more hats. 

"The one boy gets on the bus, and he asks 'what are you doing?', I said, ‘I'm making a hat. 'He said, 'That would be great fun having such a warm hat in icy winter. 'So I said, 'What color would you like? That started everything, " Miss Patty told the local newspaper. 

Miss Patty has already knitted 7, 083 hats for students in her free time. Sometimes she will get the student's favourite color before she begins the project. 

What is more moving is that Miss Patty buys all the materials (材料) using her own money. Some people do give her gift cards around the holidays to help, but she still puts out a lot of her own money. 

Along with making hats for the students that will keep them warm, Miss Patty also gets praise (表扬) for being a trusted (可信的) friend to the students. 

I have never tried to understand my neighbours, but this neighbour taught me a lesson.

It was a little cold in late autumn.Fallen leaves were here and there.I felt cold in the wind and my face turned red.

The door behind me was closed.How unlucky I was! I forgot to take my keys.Both my parents were busy working in their offices.So I took out my exercise books and started to do my homework under the street lights.It was getting darker, and I felt hungry.I stood up and brought out my pocket money.One yuan, two yuan... I hoped to get a bowl of noodles for dinner.But a sudden wind blew my money away! I got so sad that I almost cried out.

Just at this moment came my neighbour, Mrs Wang.She asked, "Why are you standing alone outside?""I... I left my keys at home," I had to answer."Oh, I see.Then come to my home.I made some dumplings." She invited me.I felt happy as soon as I heard her words, but then I felt embarrassed.She went on, "Come on.We are neighbours.We should help each other, right?"

I had a good dinner at Mrs Wang's home, and what she said made me feel warmer in my heart.Really, a good neighbour is better than a brother living far away.My neighbour helped me when I was in trouble.I will never forget it.
