①Franz Schubert was a music giant (巨匠). He wrote several symphonies (交响乐) and operas, about600 songs, and had many other musical works.

②Schubert was born in a musical family in Vienna on January 31, 1797. His father was a teacher, and he taught young Schubert to play the violin. One of Schubert's brothers also gave him piano lessons. Schubert was really good at writing all kinds of music. Schubert started working at his father's school in1814, but he didn't like teaching. So he spent most of his free time writing music. During that time, he wrote his first full symphony and opera. He also wrote many famous songs.

③In 1818, Schubert gave up teaching to make music full time. It was a good change. People liked his music, and they even paid him to write music for them. Schubert finally made money from his musical works, but they didn't make him rich.

④Schubert died at the age of 31 on November 19, 1828. Schubert and his music were popular during his time. And people still listen to his music today.

China has a rich and colorful cultural history，and masks have played a major role in Chinese tradition in thousands of years. Why do people wear masks？The reasons are to protect their body，to hide themselves，masks are used all over the world. 

African masks are usually made by a traditional style. There are many different kinds of African masks，but many of them represent animals. African masks are a part of full—body costumes and they are made for dancers. The dancers usually wear the masks in religious events. 

Japanese masks have been used in many different performances such as dance，theater，festivals or religious events. They represent heroes，devils，ghosts，cloth，wood，or some paper. 

Greek masks are used to represent the spirits of nature during religious events. Also，theater actors use masks to show different characters. In Rome，devil and other masks are used in carnivals（节日）. 

Today，masks continue to be of great artistic entertaining value. 

If you go to Beijing and Shanghai, you can see the same and the different points between them. In some ways they look the same, and in other ways they look different. They both have tall buildings and wide streets, though some buildings in Shanghai are taller than the ones in Beijing. They are both important in China. Beijing is the capital of China, there are more places of interest there, but Shanghai is the biggest city in China. Now they are becoming more and more important in China.

Rick, a school boy, had a love for playing video games. Every day, his 1 reminded him to take some exercise instead of playing video games. However, he didn't always 2 .

Once again, Rick's mom told him seriously that his eyesight(视力) might get poor if he spent too much time on video games. It was a pity that he still didn't listen 3 . He kept playing. One day, during a math class, Rick's teacher got 4 when he couldn't give an answer to a question like"2+2=?". After class, the teacher asked him why he couldn't solve such a 5 problem. Rick said that he knew the answer but couldn't see the board clearly. His teacher was worried and 6 his parents. Realizing what had happened, Rick's mom warned him again that it was harmful to his 7 to play video games too much. And Rick's dad took him to an eye doctor for a check-up. The 8 showed that his eyesight

had weakened. After asking about his habit of using eyes, the doctor advised Rick to take action to protect his eyes.
