I was looking throughmy old photos last Sunday. One photo {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (catch) my eye. In thephoto, I was sitting in a chair, hugging Duke, my best friend in the world.

Duke was aninteresting name for such {#blank#}2{#/blank#} little dog. But he was myfriend from the moment I could walk. He stayed with me in that chair when I read{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (book).When I went outside {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(play) games, he would drive our cats up to the trees and then walk off feelingproud of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(him). When he was hungry, he would carry his food dish in his mouth and drop {#blank#}6{#/blank#} at my mum's feet. WhenI was sick, he refused to leave my bed until I got {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (well) than before.

I learned a lot fromDuke. I learned that a short sleep at noon could be good {#blank#}8{#/blank#} _people. I learnedthat the simplest dinner can be delicious {#blank#}9{#/blank#} you eat it with greatenjoyment. I learned that life can be good when you live it with love and joy. Ialso learned that life is short, especially for a dog.

To me, Duke is like ateacher. He {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(teach) me how to love and to be loved.

It was a cold night. The taxi driver didn't take even one passenger all day. When he went by the train station, he saw a young man coming out with two bags in his hands. So he drove to him and asked, "Where are you going, sir?"

"To the MP Hotel," the young man answered. When the taxi driver heard this, he didn't feel happy any more. The young man would give him only three dollars because the hotel was near the train station. But suddenly, he had an idea. He took the young man through many streets of the big city. After a long time, they arrived at the hotel. "Here we are! You should pay me seventeen dollars, please," the taxi driver said to the young man. "What? Seventeen dollars! Do you think I'm a fool? Only last week, I took a taxi from the train station to this hotel and only gave the driver fifteen dollars. I know how much I have to pay for the trip!"

There is a little dog living with his mother. His mother makes dinner for him and the little dog often does some things to help her. One day, the little dog sees a pumpkin (南瓜). He wants to take it home, but it is too big and heavy . The little dog can't carry it at first.

At that time, the little dog sees the boys playing football. He looks at the boys' football. He says, "____▲____ I can roll(滚动) the pumpkin. It's like a all."

So the little dog rolls the pumpkin easily. It's like an interesting game for him. At last. He rolls the pumpkin to his home. His mother says in surprise, "Oh, dear! How can you do that? The pumpkin is so big!" The little dog says happily, "I can't carry it, but I can roll it." His mother says, "What a good boy. You are really good at thinking. I'm so happy about that."

Two months ago, Kate finished middle school. She left her hometown and came to the city. Her aunt helped her find work in a factory. It was small and offered {#blank#}1{#/blank#} rooms to the workers. She wouldn't drop it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} it was difficult for her to find another job there. She had to find a room for {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ( she). As she didn't have enough money, she had to rent one outside the city. It was about half an hour by bus. The farmer and his family lived on the first floor. They rented all the others on the second and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} ( three) floors to the workers. So they built an attic(阁楼) on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} of the building for the girl. It was low and small. She couldn't {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( easy) go to sleep in the hot night. She had to stay in it, hoping {#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( find) a better room one day.

A month later, Kate went to pay the farmer for the rent. She found hers was the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} of all the boarders(房客). It made her feel strange and she asked," My room is the smallest and the lowest, you know. But why do I have to pay more rents than any other boarder, sir?"

At first the farmer didn't know {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to answer her. He thought and thought and at last he said," Nobody {#blank#}10{#/blank#} ( use) all our steps except you."

A Once there was a forest where all the animals lived happily together. 

One day a family went to spend the day in the forest, and the son left his socks there. After the family left, a bear came by, found the socks, and decided to try them on. They fit so well, and he liked them so much that he wouldn't take them off. 

All the animals talked about the bear's new look. Soon, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in shoes, and even rats wearing hats! The forest doctor shook his head, telling animals, "This can't be good.    △    !" But no one listened to him. They said he was just out of fashion. 

However, it wasn't long before the first results of fashion-fever came. Several times the squirrel caught his shirt on trees, stopping him in mid-jump and sending him falling to the ground from a tree. The rat couldn't go into his hole without taking off his hat first. Even the bear, because of his socks, slipped(滑倒)from the river rock and almost killed himself. 

When the animals came to see the doctor, he gave them all the same advice, "Take off those clothes before one day they are going to kill you." Those who listened to the doctor's advice stopped having accidents. And the animals realized that they didn't need clothes at all. Starting to wear them had been very dangerous, and they had only done it to make others admire them, and to get attention.
