It was a lovely spring afternoon. My classmates and I were playing happily on the playground when I let out a cry, "Ow! Ow! Something in my shoe is biting me."

Everyone was shocked by the cry. They took me into a classroom and were about to take off my1 . "Which foot is it?" One asked "let us have a look."

Suddenly, I remembered the holes in 2 socks. My family was very poor during those years. I wore welfare socks, which cost only a little, but those 3 welfare socks didn't last long. They soon had 4 at the bottom.

I refused to take off my shoe. I 5 stand others seeing the holes in my sock. I tried to hold back my tears. Yet, each time the thing 6 my shoe bit me, tears raced down my face.

My teacher, Miss Diane, hurried into the 7 , "What's wrong? " She asked.

"Something is biting her right foot, 8 she doesn't let us take off her shoe," One of my classmates answered.

Miss Diane lived next door to me. She 9 everything about my family. She put both hands on my shaking shoulders and 10 into my painful and hopeless eyes.

The alcohol felt cool on the bites and a little girl's pride was saved by the "sock-eating ant " story.

I read a story last night and found it very inspiring. Now, I'd like to share it with you.

A group of frogs were travelling through the woods.1 , two of them fell into a deep hole. When the other frogs saw how deep the hole was, they told the two frogs just to2 . But the two frogs didn't believe it. They tried to jump out of the3 with their own efforts. The other frogs kept telling them to4 trying and to wait for death. Finally, one of the two frogs gave up and fell down. Soon he died.5 frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him and told him to stop and just to wait to die. But he jumped even harder, and finally, he6 it.

Do you know7 the frog didn't give up? Because the frog was8 . He couldn't hear what the other frogs were saying. He thought they were all encouraging9 .

What lesson can you learn from this story? If you ask me, I will tell you that after reading this story, I decide to10 others when they are in trouble.

My dad bought me a new Jeep when I was 17, but the real gift was what he  taught me about life through this car. Every month, on the first day, he asked me  to pay him $150 if I wanted to continue driving my Jeep. If I didn't pay, I  couldn't drive my car〔or "his car", as he often reminded me, since he owned the title (所有权). My dad was (and still is) a successful businessman, who makes a very good living. To a 17-year-old student who only had a part-time weekend job, $150 was more  than  I  usually  made  every  month.  I  had  to  work  harder.  Although I was unhappy about my father's request, I always made sure to give him $150 on the first of each month, and did so for two years.

The day I graduated from high school, my dad pulled me into his office at our house for a talk. "Kevin," he gave me a white box and said, "here is your graduation present. To be honest, this is actually a present you gave yourself." I opened the box carefully, and almost started crying when I realized he just gave me $3,600! It was 24 car payments that he had saved for the last two years. Every payment I gave him went straight into this box. By requiring me to pay him every month, he was teaching me how to save, how to use my money and how to be responsible (有责任心的). My dad is and will forever be the best man I have ever known.

Four years later he gave me the title to the Jeep, as my college graduation present.
