    I will always remember my first day at the University of Lagos. On arrival at the campus, I was expecting to be met by some tired students(as was practiced in my secondary school), 1 every student around was new like myself. I asked the way to the multi-purpose hall but no one could tell me. I asked a number of questions about issues(担心的事)that 2 me, such as where and how to pay my fees, the way to the dining hall and so on, but no 3 was offered. “So in the midst of so many people I am all 4 ” I thought to myself. The prospect(前景) was not 5 at all and all the pleasure I had felt at 6 into a famous university at seventeen began to disappear.

    Then as if 7 by an unknown force, I walked a little bit down the corridor in the direction of a notice board which some boys and girls were 8at. Because of 9of something to do, I decided to stop and look at the notice board. Yes! I happened on the 10to all riddles that had 11 me since I set foot on the campus that morning. An old lady was really glad when she was on the way back home. She was so tired after she shopped all day long. In the lift, she thought she would have a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(杯子) of coffee and a quick dinner, but when she got out on her own floor, both were forgotten because she found that her front door was open.

She walked slowly into the hall and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(立即) noticed that all the room doors were open. She said to herself, "I remember {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(锁) the front door. And I'm sure that I have {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(关上) all the room doors before going out. "

It was clear that a thief(小偷) had come into her house. There were some footprints on the floor and on the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(沙发). The old lady was so {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(不高兴的) that she telephoned the police at once. After a while, a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(两个) of policemen came and asked the lady some questions. Then they searched the house {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(细心地) and asked the old lady to check what was lost. After {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(午夜), the policemen left. They advised her not to stay {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(独自) in the house, so she telephoned her daughter and asked her to stay with her for several days.

 阅读以下材料,然后从下面方框中所给的 A、B、C、D、E五个选项中选出符合各部分信息的问句(其中一项为多余选项),完成第小题。

GREAT KIDS                     Love for the elderly

Seven-year-old Maggie Kuznia is a book lover. She finds joy in sharing the stories she reads. Every week, she visits the elderly at Good Samaritan Society with several books. There she has made a lot of new friends who wait eagerly for her story-telling.

Q: {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

A: On a snowy day, my mother brought me along to work at Good Samaritan Society. My mom reminded me to bring toys. However, I brought some books because I had different plans. I wanted to read stories to cheer the elderly up.

Q: {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

A: I'd say making a lot of new friends. The elderly are devoted (忠诚的) listeners, and some of them are always ready to help me when I come across unfamiliar (不熟悉的) words.

Q: {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

A: I want to tell them to do something they enjoy, such as dancing, singing and so on. I always get support from my mother. Every week, I visit the elderly and often visit each one for over an hour with my mom checking on me to make sure I'm not overstaying my welcome.

EDITOR'S (编者) NOTE

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}

First, know about what the elderly need and offer help to improve their lives. By doing so, we may know what steps we can take towards that goal.

People may think that big things should be done to help others. However, many forget that helping others begins with small things. Small things can make a big difference.

Let's take Maggie for example. Her goal was very simple, just to care for the elderly by reading stories. So she did. For the elderly, she brightened their day.

Share your ideas with a parent so that you can get help from them. No matter what act you do and how small it is, the elderly's world will be full of love and laughters.

A. How can you care for the elderly?

B. What's the best part about what you do?

C. What do you like doing in your spare time?

D. What would you tell other kids to care for the elderly?

E. How did you get the idea of reading stories to the elderly?

请结合第一节内容,回答下面问题。(请用约20词回答)

What can you do to care for the elderly? Why?{#blank#}5{#/blank#}
