Everyone is good at something, for {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(范例),singing, dancing or playing instruments. Amy and Danny are my good friends. Amy sings the best among us. She joined a lot of singing competitions and won many {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(奖品). Danny has a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (天赋) for playing the piano. His mom gave him a piano as a gift on his eighth {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(生日). Then he started to play it. What about me? I am good at {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (画).

There is a talent show in our school every year. It is a wonderful event, and almost {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(所有人) takes part in it. It's up to the teachers and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(学生) to decide who sings the best or plays the piano the most beautifully.

Last year, Amy and Danny {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (参加) the show, but I didn't, because I thought no one would go to a talent show to watch a child draw a picture. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (两个都) of them practiced hard before the show. Amy {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (赢得) second prize and Danny didn't win a prize, but he was still very happy."The most important thing is that I tried my best to do it,"he said.

Taking a journey can be a happy thing. However, a journey may go wrong sometimes because of something unexpected（始料不及的）. I still remember a 1 journey that I took three years ago. I was going to the airport with my 2 . We were going to London on holiday, and we had to be at the airport two hours before the plane took off.

My friend and I 3 home early enough. Usually, it took 40 minutes to go to the airport by 4 . But it rained hard that day. The heavy rain caused a big traffic jam on the way! The traffic wasn't moving at all. We didn't 5 what to do. It was a little late to go another way, so we just sat in the car and waited. After ten minutes, the traffic 6 moving slowly. But we couldn't wait any longer. We 7 to find another way to the airport. However, we weren't sure of the way, and we got lost. Finally, we found the 8 way and arrived at the airport just 40 minutes before the plane was going to leave. We were running out of time and had to ask an airport worker for help. 9 , with the worker's help, we caught our flight（航班）in the end. 

Although we didn't miss our flight, the starting point of the journey was terrible. But I also 10 a lesson from it: Always think more about unexpected things like the weather and traffic.

①Like many other dogs, Scuff loves to play with plastic bottles. David Grant and his wife Yvonne Faulkner- Grant always let their 13- year- old dog pick up the plastic bottles he finds while out on their daily walks. 

②In 2021, David and Yvonne noticed Scuff could find even the most well- hidden bottles. They also noticed there was more and more litter in their town. They couldn't believe that people were littering(乱扔) so much since they were both taught never to drop their trash as children. 

③At the start of 2022, David and Yvonne decided to start picking up the bottles. They also decided to train Scruff to gather other people's trash. 

④" When he picked a bottle up in 2021, he would carry it for a while and then drop it again. People would think we were dropping litter. But it wasn't our litter, " said Yvonne, " so we got him to start bringing the bottles to us and we put them in a bag and then counted them up. "

⑤Since starting this journey, Scruff has become famous in his neighborhood. Everybody loves him. 

⑥     ▲      They hope that more people will heat scruff's story and either stop dropping the trash or, perhaps, try picking it up themselves. What's more, they think Scruff has taken on his duties so well that other dogs could easily be trained to do what he does as well. 

⑦" We walk the same route(路线) every day and he finds bottles on that route every day, " said David. " We feel proud that we are picking them up, but a bit angry that they' re even there, " Yvonne agrees. 

⑧Scruff has collected1, 334 bottles. David andhis wife think Scruff has done a really great job. 

⑨And so do we! Picking up litter while taking a walk is a healthy habit that many of us could add to our lives. 

A young man went for a job interview in a big company. The boss found that the young man's college grades were excellent. Then he asked the young man who paid for his education. The young man told the boss that his parents did and they worked as laundry (洗衣店) workers. 

The boss noticed that the young man's hands were smooth and perfect. He asked, "Have you ever helped your parents wash clothes?" "No. My parents always make me study. Besides, they wash clothes faster than I do."

The boss asked the young man to go back home and wash his parents' hands. When he got home, he told his parents that he wanted to wash their hands. His parents felt surprised but happy. Then the young man began to wash their hands slowly. 

He was in tears. He found his parents' hands were so rough (粗糙的) and pale because of washing a lot of clothes in the cold water. There were also many injuries (伤口) in their hands. After washing their parents' hands, the young man quietly washed the rest of the clothes. 

The next morning, the young man went to the company again. The boss noticed the young man's pale hands. He said to the young man, "Welcome to join us!"

Brian looked at the ugly gray walls of his bedroom. Soon the hated walls would be covered, but not with paint as he had first planned. Brian had been disappointed to learn that the house owner would not allow painting. For weeks he was unable to understand: without using paint, how could he cover the walls? But, as Grandmother always said, "Necessity is the mother of invention." So Brian did some thinking, and with a little help from his mother, he came up with a great plan.

This morning, Mom had needed to stop at the mall to buy a book and Brian went along. There, Brian noticed a large poster of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts School on the wall. Next to it was a poster showing the cover of No Arm in Left Field, a baseball novel that Brian had read several times. "This is it," Brian thought excitedly. "I'll cover the walls with posters!"

When he left the mall, Brian had an armful of posters and a box of tacks (大头钉). At home, he headed straight to his room. First he took out the posters and spread them out on his bed, his desk, and most of the floor. Next he found out the size of each poster, and then the walls. He wanted to cover as much of those ugly walls as possible! It took all afternoon to work out the best preparation. He drew it on paper, making changes until it was just right. When Dad came home at dinnertime, Brian was ready to tack up the posters.

"Come see my room, Dad," called Brian. "It's going to be great!" But when Dad came into the bedroom, he looked worried. "The house owner said we could not put any holes in the walls. You can't use tacks, Brian. I am sorry."

Brian's joy slowly disappeared. He would stay with the boring gray walls forever. Maybe there was no way to solve this problem after all. How could you hang posters without using tacks? After all, posters would not stick to the walls by themselves!

"What would stick to the walls?" Brian wondered. Then he smiled. Tape, that's what! Brian took a piece of tape and made it into a circle. He made sure the sticky part of the tape was on the outside. This would work, for sure!
