I am glad to know that you have joined your school's reading club. I enjoy reading too. I want to introduce my favourite novel to you, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The novel tells the story of a boy named Charlie Bucket and his adventures in Mr Wonka's chocolate factory. The Bucket family is very poor. Charlie loves Wonka chocolate bars. But he only receives one chocolate bar a year on his birthday.

One day, Mr Wonka decides to open up his factory to five lucky children. They can find golden tickets in their Wonka chocolate bars. On his birthday, Charlie's family all hope that his chocolate bar will contain a golden ticket. But sadly, it doesn't. Three days later, Charlie finds a coin on the ground. He buys some chocolate bars with it. To his great surprise, he finds a golden ticket!

Charlie goes to the factory with his grandfather. It is an amazing place. There is even a chocolate river! One by one, the other four children on the tour cause trouble. They are all taken away. Charlie is the only child who doesn't cause any trouble. Mr Wonka tells him that he wins the contest.

Do you know what is hanfu? Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han Chinese, can date back to the early 17^th century. However, more and more young Chinese people are wearing hanfu now. 

Ran Dan is one of them. She is a huge fan of hanfu from Beijing. She noticed hanfu in 2011 when she saw some hanfu photos and she was surprised by its beauly. Soon she had her first set of hanfu. Now, she has more than 50. Some people only wear hanfu for special events, but others wear it every day: to work, to school, or even only to go shopping. Ran is the latter (后者). Once she wore hanfu in a clothing TV show. 

"Many people think hanfu is not convenient (方便的) in daily life. In fact, there are many kinds of hanfu. Loose-bodied hanfu may not be convenient when you go to toilet, but there are some kinds of hanfu which will not have an influence on our lives at all, "she said. 

It's said that the hanfu market has more than two million customers across China so far. There are more and more stores selling hanfu online. "Students are the largest group of customers in my store, "said Daoding, who runs an online hanfu store. 

Now many schools have hanfu clubs and they are popular with students. The schools want to provide young people with a good way to learn about Chinese culture. Usually, students are interested in the different kinds of activities having to do with ancient clothing, poem and calligraphy (书法). And they believe that hanfu can bring out the best in them because of its beauty. 

These days, if you want to travel from New York to Beijing, the flight will take about 16 hours. You also have to wait at the airport, and sometimes you have to transfer onto a different airplane. If you add up all of the time, the trip will take at last 20 hours. But in the future, the trip from New York to Beijing might only take two hours.

Right now, a company is developing (开发) something called ET3—"evacuated tube (真空管) transport technology". Here's how it works. A tube goes all the way from New York to Beijing. The tube is only a few meters wide. Capsules (舱) move through the tube. Six people can sit in one capsule.

For international travel, the capsules can travel at about 6,500 kilometers per hour. Why can they travel so fast? Because there isn't any air in the ET3 tubes, the capsules can move at such a high speed. Also, the capsules are quite light. Each only weighs 183 kilograms. There are other advantages (优点) of ET3. Because it use electricity, it's quite clean. Also, it's a lot quieter than air planes and cars. Last, ET3 tube and capsules don't need much building materials.

Of course, there are still some problems about ET3. The biggest problem is that right now it would cost a lot to build ET3. To lower the cost, we will need much better technology.

However, it's still exciting to think of how ET3 will change the travel in the future. Who knows? Maybe someday you can have lunch in New York and dinner in Beijing.

In ancient times, people's only transportation means（交通方法）were their feet. So it was 1 for them to travel from one place to another. As a result, they knew 2 things about outside world. The world was too big for them to understand. 

With the development of society, more and more transportation means 3 : bicycle, bus, car, train, ship, plane, etc. They carry people to and from every corner of the world. And they make people 4 to each other. 

So it's easier for people from different countries to understand each other, to communicate with each other. So the world is getting smaller and smaller, just like one big 5 .

My home town lies at the foot of Mount Yi.

In my childhood, there1 clean rivers, the blue sky and green trees around the houses. The air is fresh and people can hear birds2 everywhere. At that time, My hometown was not rich, though the people were hardworking. The people worked in their fields all day to make a living with3 hands. There are more than two or three4 in each family. Some of the young kids were not able to go to school,5 they had to help their parents work. As a young kid, I hoped6 a city life.

Now my dream has come true.7 the help of the givernment, my home town is becoming much8 than before. People live in tall, bright buildings comfortably. Almost every family has a computer. Most young people get information or go9 on the Internet. The local government has built a rural community(社区) in our village. People can see the doctor and buy things10 . I am happy to see my hometown better and better.

Peter and David are good friends. Every morning. Peter gets up early to read books. In the afternoon, he does sports with David. 

Today they don't go to school. David comes to Peter's room and says, "I want to read books like you, but I don't understand(理解)them. Is reading good for me? "

Peter say, "This is a coal basket(煤筐). Get a basket of water from the river. Then I tell you. "David does that. But there is no water in the basket when he comes back. Peter says, "You can walk fast. "

This time David runs, but there still (仍然) no water in the basket. "See? It's useless. " he says. 

"Look at the basket!" Peter says. 

Then David finds it's clean now. Peter says, "That's how reading can help you. You may not understand all. But when you read, you'll be different. "
