Michael and Greg were brothers and they lived in a family with a tight budget. They both missed the field trip last year because they could not cover the extra fee. This year, Michael's class would arrange a field trip to the city museum and he really wanted to go. So he was trying to earn some pocket money.

On this cold autumn morning, Michael gathered the last of the leaves into a small pile. There weren't even enough to jump in. "Mom and Dad are never going to pay me for gathering this little bit of leaves. ""What are you talking about?" Greg asked, walking up behind him. "I'm trying to do some housework so I can make enough money to cover my field trip to the city museum, but there's nothing to do around here. "Michael sighed and looked around.

"You could offer to wash Mom and Dad's cars," Greg said.

Michael's face lit up. "That's a great idea."

"I bet some of the neighbors would pay you to wash theirs, too. It's getting colder and no one wants to wash the cars themselves. "Greg looked his brother in the eye.

Michael nodded. The air was cold. He shivered(打寒颤)at the thought of washing cars and getting wet in this cold weather. "Maybe this isn't a good idea."

Greg placed his hand on Michael's shoulder. "I have some golf gloves that are designed for wet, cold weather. I'll loan you a pair, and I'll even help you wash the cars." "Really? You'd help me and let me keep the money?" "Sure. Golf season is over. I won't need the extra cash for a while. "Greg disappeared inside the house.

Michael asked his parents if he could wash their cars for a small fee. When they agreed, he asked some neighbors, too. Three more agreed. Michael got a bucket, some sponges(海绵), towels and soap. Greg came back outside with the gloves. "Here you go. They'll keep your hands warm and dry. ""Thanks. "Michael still couldn't believe his brother was helping him earn the money like this. He had to think of a way to repay him.

书面表达

When I arrived at 6 a.m. in the large hospital kitchen, Rose was already checking name tags on the trays (托盘).

Hi, I'm Janet." I tried to sound cheerful, although I already knew Rose's reputation for being impossible to work with. "I'm scheduled to work with you this week."

Rose stopped what she was doing and peered over her reading glasses. I could tell from her expression she wasn't pleased to sec a student worker.

“What do you want me to do? Start the coffee?” I asked.

Rose coldly nodded and went back to checking name tags.

I filled the 40-cup pot with water and began making the coffee when Rose yelled, “That's not the way to make coffee.” She stepped in and took over.

Nothing I did pleased her. All morning, her eagle eyes missed nothing and her sharp words hurt.

Totally exhausted, I trudged the six blocks home late that June afternoon. As a third year university student working my way through school, I had never before met anyone like Rose.

Fighting back tears, I wrestled with my dilemma alone in my room. "What shall I do?" The answer caught me completely by surprise. I needed to love Rose.

Working with Rose the next morning, I ignored the hurtful remarks thrown in my direction and did things Rose's way as much as possible. As I worked, I silently began to surround Rose with a warm blanket of love. Over the next few days, an amazing thing began to happen. My focus shifted from what she was doing to me and I started seeing Rose as the hurting person she was. Then her icy tension began to melt away.

Throughout the rest of the summer, we had numerous opportunities to work together. Each time, she seemed truly happy to see me. Her bitterness gave way as she started opening up. As I worked with this lonely woman, I listened to her, something no one else had done. I learned that she was burdened by elderly parents who needed her care and her own health problems.

The days slipped by quickly as I finished the last several weeks of my summer job. I soon would be returning as a full-time university student and say goodbye to Rose.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks(盯着他们).

One day, Ali took Zahra's shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn't until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali's running shoes. Zahra's school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.

Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.

The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.

Lungs nearly burst. I struggled to lift my head out of the water. Inch by inch, my tired body reached the end of the pool.

The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500-meter swim test. Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?

Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool. Overqualified, I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide (滑梯). I was capable of more.

So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool. Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked, "This looks really easy for you. Why aren't you applying to become a guard?"

"The thought didn't cross my mind."

"Well, lifeguarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $ 2 more per hour. Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class."

Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me — You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.

Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR (心肺复苏), and procedures for different land-based and water-based emergencies.

Work started soon. A well-intentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed. Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.

Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.

However, there was hardly any chance that Carol's family moved to the city as they had everything in the village.

One day, Carol fell asleep during the early noon and she had a sound sleep. Of course, she had a strange dream. She saw her grandmother in her dream as a fairy and her deceased grandmother granted her a wish. Carol requested her that she should love to enjoy the city life as she always desired.

Grandmother understood the desire of Carol, but still wanted to convince her that the peaceful village life is better than the city life.

She told Carol, "Baby, you cannot have access to fresh fruits and vegetables from plants as you have at your home. You cannot breathe fresh air. You cannot play with animals. You can hardly find any trees. You will not find peace as you see here! Do you still want to go to the city?"

Without hearing the concerns, Carol asked her grandmother to grant the wish. Grandmother granted her wish, but with a condition. Carol was told that she would only have 6 hours to spend in the city. Later, she would return to the village. Carol agreed.

I remember the first time I met Roy. He was telling a joke. When he reached the final line, everyone burst out laughing. "A popular boy," I thought to myself. My name is Daniel. I was the new boy in the class. There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren't very interested in a shy new boy. Roy was kind to me. He often invited me to join his particular group and we became good friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters.

Five years later, Roy and I were still in the same class. But just a year ago Roy's father was knocked over by a car. He died a few days later. The family had difficulty with finance. Roy changed completely. He started losing friends, including me.

About three months ago, a group of us were playing football together after school. Having left something in the classroom, I went inside to get it and found Roy going through the pockets of people's coats. In his hand he had a wallet and I knew it wasn't his. Roy went bright red. "I will put it back right now," he said, and he did so. I turned round and walked out without saying a word. I really hoped that Roy would explain why he had been stealing, but instead he started avoiding me.

Last week, our school had a big fair in order to raise money for a charity and we made about £500. But to our surprise, the next morning, we were told that the money had been stolen. This morning I decided to ask Roy about the theft so I went to see him. Roy was out. I put his jacket on and put my hands in the pockets. I could feel a lot of notes and I pulled them out. It looked as if there were about £500 there. I was so surprised that I just stood there, holding the notes in my hand. And that moment, Roy walked in.

Paragraph 1:

Seeing me standing there with money in my hand, Roy felt panicked (恐慌的).

……

Paragraph 2:

We went to the head teacher Mrs Smith, together.

 任务型读写

In a quaint hamlet, there resides an elderly gentleman by the name of Mr. Benson. He dwells in solitude, marked by a prominent facial scar that lends him an air of intimidation. Consequently, the townsfolk seldom engage in conversation with him, and he is often left to manage the arduous task of carrying his belongings up the steep stairs to his residence unaided.

Mr. Benson is devoid of companionship and has never been wed. However, a change is afoot in the community when a new family, the Clarences, relocates to the area. This family is composed of the amiable Mr. and Mrs. Clarence, along with their offspring, Amanda and David. They settle into the very edifice that houses Mr. Benson.

The existing residents of the building extend a warm welcome to the newcomers, greeting Amanda and David with kindness, but they caution them against interacting with Mr. Benson. They describe him as a formidable elder with an enigmatic scar, devoid of social connections.

Despite this, the Clarences find such admonitions to be nonsensical. Whenever they encounter Mr. Benson in the corridors of their building or on the street, they greet him with a friendly smile and inquire about his well-being.

Mr. Benson is immensely pleased by their approach. He extends an open invitation to the Clarences to visit his home, even offering Amanda and David some delectable cupcakes as a token of his appreciation.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence frequently assist Mr. Benson with his shopping, and the children, Amanda and David, enjoy spending time with him, sipping tea and listening to his enchanting tales. It turns out that Mr. Benson was once a renowned chef, capable of crafting the most exquisite desserts, as per Amanda's discerning palate.

One evening, the residents of the building are startled by the sounds of merriment, clinking crockery, and the clatter of cutlery emanating from Mr. Benson's apartment. This unusual commotion piques their curiosity, as it suggests a convivial gathering. The neighbors are left to ponder why they have not been included in what appears to be a delightful repast.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右。

The next day, Mrs. Clarence talks to her neighbors.

……

Soon, they all enjoy Mr. Benson's delicious cakes every weekend at their dinners.
