The college entrance examination is just around the corner. Homework and tests will keep many of you up late at night, and you may plan to make up for your lost sleep during the weekends. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} is it useful? A study published in the journal Current Biology completely has changed {#blank#}2{#/blank#} people used to think. It shows that the habit of sleeping in on weekends doesn't fix the damage done by a lack of sleep during the week. Even {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (bad), it may damage your health.

Some people live to climb the highest mountains. Some people live only dreaming about it while others live to avoid ever climbing at all. But one thing is certain — all people meet mountains in their life. 

When I was a little girl, my family moved to a tiny town at the bottom of a big mountain. One day after school, while exploring the green woods of this amazing mountain, I almost fell on a set of stairs. What could these steps lead to? Curiosity got the best of me as I knew it would be starting to get dark soon. I started climbing up those strangely mysterious (神秘的) steps. I climbed and climbed. There was nothing but just green bushes and these steps. I had to reach the top. But it was now getting real dark. If I kept going I might not be able to see my way back. My mom would be worried sick if I didn't come home soon. So I ran back home almost in the dark while trying not to get too scared.

Anxiously I went to bed dreaming about what I would find at the top of this magical mountain. Could there be a castle up there? Maybe I would find a monster (怪物) . Maybe I was taking the risk of never coming back home. Or, maybe all I would find was absolutely nothing! But something inside me was going to climb that mountain at all cost. I could hardly wait to try this adventure again. 

Now we live in a world surrounded by the "can't do" attitudes. We all fall down. We all have doubts and regrets. Still we must climb and dream about what's at the top of our mountain. Monsters may appear or the night will fall. But never ever give up on your dream! Never let anyone tell you, "You can't." Dream big and climb high!

April 3 -- A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook the sea area near Hualien of China's Taiwan at 7:58 am Wednesday (Beijing Time), followed by multiple aftershocks, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

At least 26 buildings collapsed in the earthquake Wednesday, 15 of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} are in Hualien County. More than 91,000 households are without electricity,

The quake caused tsunami(海啸) warnings in Taiwan, southern Japan and the Philippines, with waves less than half a meter observed along some coasts, and caused airlines {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(suspend ) flights.

Taiwan is {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(regular) rocked by earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which runs around the edge of the Pacific Ocean and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(cause) massive volcanic activity from Indonesia to Chile.

Wednesday's quake is the {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(strong) to hit Taiwan since 1999. That {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(power) 7.7 magnitude quake hit 150 kilometers south of Taipei, killing 2,400 people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} injuring 10,000 others.

The Chinese mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday expressed concern and offered {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(assist) to Taiwan following the earthquake. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the office, stated the mainland's deep concern for the situation and extended heartfelt condolences(慰唁) to those {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(affect) in Taiwan. She emphasized the mainland is close monitoring of developments and is willing to provide support {#blank#}10{#/blank#} disaster relief efforts.

In May 2019, a friend who had previously been involved in the Restless Development Sierra Leone Business Brains project encouraged me to apply for the "Saving Lives II" project. Seeing this as an opportunity to move closer to my ambition of working in the medical field in the near future, I eagerly seized the chance. Fortunately, my performance during the interview led to me being awarded the role. 

Following the basic training, I was sent to volunteer in Kurubonla, a remote community located in the northern region of Sierra Leone. This assignment presented challenges such as limited road access and communication networks. At first, I felt concerned about being sent there, but with a determined mindset, I set out on the journey, driven by a passion to contribute to my country's development and to push my personal boundaries. 

As I got to know the community, I quickly realized that the challenges extended beyond language barriers and cultural differences; there was also a sense of isolation from my peers. However, I refused to allow these challenges to stop me. I threw myself in my duties, working together with local leaders and community members to identify the most pressing needs. Together, we carried out the projects aimed at improving healthcare, education, and infrastructure (基础设施). Additionally, I organized workshops and training courses to share my knowledge and skills with the locals. 

Over time, I witnessed the positive impact of our collective efforts. Healthcare facilities improved, the number of students in schools increased, and the overall quality of life in the community showed signs of improvement. These achievements were not solely mine; they were a testament to the cooperative spirit and commitment of the entire community.

John Steinbeck

Even the Pulitzer Prize-winning American author John Steinbeck felt uncomfortable about the praise he got for his work. He wrote in his diary: "I am not a writer. I've been fooling {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (I) and other people." His famous realistic novel The Grapes of Wrath  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (help) land him the Pulitzer Prize in 1940.

Michelangelo

World-renowned Italian Renaissance artist, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (sculpt) and architect Michelangelo doubted his abilities before he created his famous painting, The Last Judgement, in the Vatican's Sistine Chapel.

The beginning of Michelangelo's career consisted mostly of sculptures, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} helped spread his name throughout Italy. However, Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (paint) the wall of the Sistine Chapel. In response, Michelangelo refused at first, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (say) that he was not a painter.{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (final), he accepted the Pope's request and spent four years on the painting.

In 1999, John Smith, a high-school teacher decided it was time to retire. Together with his wife Helen, he set off on a journey around Australia. But when they returned, John found he missed the classroom, so he spent another eight years doing casual teaching.

Then he heard about a program known as Volunteers for Isolated Students' Education (VISE), which pairs up energetic people with educational experience, usually retired teachers, with children whose schooling is largely done remotely, because they live too far away from towns and cities to attend regular schools. John grew up in the country and as a kid in the bush, he always dreamed of running with circus, but he didn't even have much chance to see the circus in person. Therefore he was immediately interested in the program and got a travelling post as a teacher with Stardust Circus.

The lesson timetable was built around the kid's performance schedules. "The eight-year-old I tutored was an awesome gymnast who was part of the teeterboard(跷跷板) act," he explains. "A big guy would jump on the other side, he would swing up in the air, do a couple of twirls(旋转) and land on his uncle's shoulders, and his uncle was standing on the boy's father's shoulders!"

The circus still includes some animal acts, including lions, monkeys, horses, goats and pigs. John and his wife Helen found it extraordinary enough to sink into sleep to the sound of lions roaring, but one day the lion-trainer, Matt, gave him a very special privilege,inviting him in to meet four 13-month old lions in person. While it was understandably a little scary at first, for John it was a never-to-be-forgotten experience, which helped him realize his boyhood dream in ms 75th year.
