I didn't go to Santiago,Chile to look for friendship.In fact,Chile was not even on my wish list.

A mid-life crisis woman,I got a chance to study abroad.I only wanted to learn about global business,taste South American  cuisine,and  check"study  abroad"off my  wish  list.

On the fifth day,I joined a group for a neighborhood work project aided by the anti-poverty(扶贫)organization. Our tasks were to build a water tower and paint the community center.Upon arrival,I couldn't believe my eyes.It was like a scene out of a horrible film.That moment redefined poverty for me because I had never seen such terrible living conditions.As advised,I showed no signs of the emotional battle going on inside me.

Just as I was about to start work on painting,a request came through for a few volunteers to help Nadia,a local resident who volunteered to cook for us.I raised my hand to help because I wanted to spend time with the people of the neighborhood despite my shortage of Spanish speaking skills.  Nadia had a sincere smile but not overly friendly.Even without speaking each other's language,we started to learn about one another.We chatted about our children,our upbringing,shared pictures of our family,struggled to instruct each other to communicate in the other's language,and laughed many times.

After we fed everybody and the dishes were washed,my day was over.But I found myself hesitant to leave.It was as if I had known her my entire life.I had not predicted the unselfishness of heart I would encounter,and it was moving.

As we were waiting for the car to pick us up,Nadia showed me her plants that are well-maintained.I could see that despite the hard conditions she was passionate about life.She made me long to be a stronger person.She showed me that poverty was external,but happiness was internal.I was seeking to give 100 percent for a well-intentioned cause,but I left receiving 200 percent from her.

Darrion Cockrell,who wasn't much of a student,has been named Missouri's Teacher of the Year—the state's highest honor for educators,becoming the first male since 2015 to capture the state's top award.

Cockrell—the child of "a drug-addicted mother" and a father who was killed when he was four years old—was in and out of the childcare centers and eventually became a gang (帮派) member.In his speech,he shouted out the special people who helped to guide him down the right path when he was going off track.

He thanked his teacher Ken who provided him with life advice while he lived in a boys' group home."He taught me it's OK to be tough,but at the same time,it's OK to be compassionate (富有同情心的),"Cockrell said."He was like a father figure to me."

The teacher—affectionately known as "DC"—also expressed his gratitude to the football coach that adopted him when he was in the 7th grade and helped to change his whole perspective (视角) on life."When I changed the way I looked at things,the things around me started to change,"he said."I had a lot of struggles and a lot of hurdles,and if not for those educators,I would not be here today."

Now,Cockrell hopes to make an impact on the students at Lindbergh Schools' Crestwood Elementary in St.Louis,where he's been teaching physical education since 2015.Among his many accomplishments at the school is his development of the"Crest-Fit"training program for teachers,students and parents.

"Missouri is fortunate to have so many high-quality educators,and Darrion will be a wonderful representative as our state's Teacher of the Year,"Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven said in a statement."He guides his students towards long-term physical and mental wellness,and the connections he has established will impact Crestwood children for years to come."

As I walk into the big room at school, I'm wearing my white coat that doctors usually wear. But I also have on some funny 1 and a messy wig that makes me look like a crazy scientist. My name tag says "Professor Quantum Quirks," which makes people laugh.

Inside the room, there are a lot of 2 getting ready for a science fair. They look excited but also a little 3 . I notice one boy sitting by himself, looking 4 because his science project isn't working right. I go over to him and 5 he's having a hard time with it. I feel bad for him. So, I decide to 6 him by doing a fun experiment together. We 7 a mini volcano using simple things we can find at home. He starts to 8 himself and gets excited when the volcano erupts with bubbly stuff. Other kids see us having fun and come over to 9 . We do more cool experiments with them and everyone is 10 and having a good time.

By the end of the science fair, I 11 my wig and glasses, but I'm still 12 because it was so much fun. I hope the kids keep being 13 about science and discovering new 14 . After all, asking questions and exploring is how we learn and have fun in the world of 15 .

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was born on February 27, 1807 in Portland, Maine. His father, Stephen, was a lawyer, so Henry was born into a rich family. Henry began 1 at age three. By the time he was six he was the smartest boy in the school. He was very good at spelling and arithmetic. But Henry loved to write and 2 became very skilled in it. Henry's father wanted him to become a lawyer, but after Henry 3 from Bowdoin College in Maine at the age of 19, he dreamed of becoming a(n) 4 . Henry wanted to travel to Europe to study. He followed that 5 , and later returned to Bowdoin to become a professor at age 22.

Intuition Robotics, an Israeli company, has developed ElliQ, an artificial intelligence robot designed to help older Americans from loneliness. ElliQ offers companionship to seniors, engaging them in conversations, playing music, leading exercises, and providing reminders for health-related activities. The device resembles a small table lamp with a glowing, moveable head, creating an interactive experience that remembers the user's interests and tailors conversations accordingly.

Joyce Loaiza, 81, from Florida, is among the first users of ElliQ, who enjoys the device's company and the personalized nickname "Jellybean" given to her. Furthermore, in New York, ElliQ entertainment 92-year-old Marie Broadbent with games and music, while Washington state's Jan Worrell, 83, uses it to develop new friendships.

The AI assistant works privately, with conversations not heard by company employees and data stored only on the owner's device. According to Intuition Robotics CEO DorSkuler, users interact with ElliQ over 30 times daily, and over 90% report experiencing less loneliness. The project idea arose from personal experience when Skuler's grandfather needed a companion who shared his interests after losing his partner.

While ElliQ is primarily distributed through state agencies in New York, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, and Washington, it can also be purchased for an annual fee of $600,plus a setup cost of $250. The goal is to have more than 100,000 units in use within five years.

State officials emphasize that ElliQ is not meant to replace social interaction, but it provides a valuable service for those who may be home-bound or lack social connections. Despite concerns raised by Julianne Holt - Lunstad, a professor at Brigham Young University, regarding the potential of such devices to reduce social connections, agencies see EliiQ as a beneficial tool, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic increased social isolation among the elderly.

Rebecka Peterson, a high school math teacher, is the nation's 2023 Teacher of the Year. Her first year of teaching wasn't without its 1 ，but she remembered why she was there and wanted to bear those2 thoughts in mind. So she 3 the One Good Thing blog.
