One Thing I'm Proud of

    It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.

    We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad's friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.

    His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm," he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.

    In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn't going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don't be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that you don't get lost!" "OK!" my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的）blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

Lost & Found

Emily was very sad because her little sister drew pictures on her science project. This was not the first time that her sister had ruined her school work. So, Emily requested（要求） her parents to buy her a study table with drawers (抽屉) where she could safely keep her books.

Emily's parents could not afford(负担得起） to buy a new table. However, they agreed to buy her a second-hand table. One day after school, Emily's mother took her to the second-hand store so that she could buy the table of her choice. By accident, she opened a drawer in an old black table. And, guess what? A small plastic bag with some dollar bills!

"Maybe I have found somebody's secret bag. Am I the luckiest twelve-year-old? My birthday is coming up soon. With this money, I can buy myself great presents. And maybe I can even buy things for my family." Emily thought. She stared at it with greedy (贪婪的) eyes and quickly pushed the bag to the end of the drawer. She told her mother she wanted that black table and later it was organized in her room.

When everybody left, she locked the room, quickly opened the drawer and took the plastic bag with dollars out. There was a note in the money bag. It seemed that some old lady was saving the money for her children and grandchildren. She could hear her heart beat （心跳）louder and louder when finally she counted twelve thousand dollars.

But now, with the money she had, she thought that she would have to make up many lies to spend it. She would have to hide the money all the time. She thought, "This money is not meant for me." She had felt the worst fear of getting caught from the moment she thought of stealing（偷）.

The store owner was quite surprised on hearing the story.

After his wife died, Ramu was left alone in this world. He was sixty-five years old. With time going by, Ramu's sadness increased. The more he thought, the stronger his belief became that it was useless to live in this world anymore.

One morning, he went out for a walk and didn't return to his home. His steps took him out of city and there he saw a bus. He took that bus. After a few hours, the bus was passing through a thick forest and stopped there for a break.

Ramu stepped out' of the bus and headed in a direction. After a while, he heard a voice from the bus calling for passengers to return but he decided not to return. He wanted to get lost in the thick forest.

In the thick forest, even during the day there was slight darkness. Ramu was walking as if he was not conscious (有知觉的). While walking, he went towards the side of a mountain. His steps suddenly stopped at a place where the mountain opened towards a valley below. There he saw the path was blocked by two sticks and a sign written in big letters—DANGER.

He couldn't understand who would write this in such a thick forest. While looking around, Ramu walked a little further towards the valley, seeing a deep ditch (壕沟) ahead. At that moment, his heart trembled (颤抖).He sat aside, thinking how a moment ago he wanted to die but now he was scared.

With a calmed mind, he started wandering, looking for the person who did this. While wandering, he saw many signs. He saw DANGER/ BEWARE sign at many dangerous places and POISONOUS FRUITS sign was written on many trees.

He realized that if those signs were not put up, anyone could have fallen into one of those deep ditches and lost his life. Seeing all this, Ramu called out loudly, "Brother, who saved my life? ! I want to see you."

Just then, from behind the leaves, an old man appeared laughing and said, "I have been watching you for a long time. Tell me how did you come here?"

I'm the only procrastination in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the" do it right now" gift. They are always in a rush, as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline. Personally, I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying" Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today,"" No way!"I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a problem or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was because our minds continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about them, which could lead to more creative. solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride. My method of getting things done was just as good as my sister's…… or so I thought.

At school we'd been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my teacher Mr. Smith announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete. We were expected to choose our materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had learned in class. Not only would the winners receive extra credit, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the. cafeteria."I have no clue how I could get it done," my friend Nate sighed in despair. I didn't say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety—— but because I was not nervous at all. I loved hands- on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria, I was fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn't give it a second thought for weeks.
