Most people think that procrastination(拖延症) is a negative habit. But people like me who routinely put off doing assignments, are likely to defend our" slower" approach to getting tasks done.

I'm the only procrastination in my family. My parents and sister were all born with the" do it right now" gift. They are always in a rush, as if closely rushed by an invisible deadline. Personally, I prefer a more relaxed pace. When my parents voiced their concern about my tendencies, saying" Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today,"" No way!"I responded, confidently presenting my research as a defense. It said people procrastinated when they need to solve a problem or commit to a topic or project. In these cases, delaying a decision can be beneficial. This was because our minds continue to reflect on problems even when we were not actively thinking about them, which could lead to more creative. solutions. My findings filled me with satisfaction and pride. My method of getting things done was just as good as my sister's…… or so I thought.

At school we'd been talking about architecture and design. As part of the final assessment my teacher Mr. Smith announced an exciting project that each student would have a month to complete. We were expected to choose our materials, construct a small building and make use of things we had learned in class. Not only would the winners receive extra credit, but the winning constructions would be proudly displayed in the. cafeteria."I have no clue how I could get it done," my friend Nate sighed in despair. I didn't say anything. Not because I shared his anxiety—— but because I was not nervous at all. I loved hands- on projects! Picturing my brilliant work exhibited in the cafeteria, I was fully convinced that I would definitely produce something that could impress everyone. So relaxed was I that I didn't give it a second thought for weeks.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Before I knew it, I had only one day left for the project.

That taught me a great lesson.

George's mother was very poor and was sick. Instead of having bright fires in winter, she had nothing to burn but dry sticks, which George picked up from under the trees.

One fine day in July, his sick mother sent him to the woods. He was to stay there all day, to get as much wood as he could collect.

It was a bright, sunny day, and George worked very hard, so that by the time the sun was high, he was hot, and wished for a cool place where he might rest and eat his dinner. While he hunted for a spot about the bank he saw among the grass some fine, wild strawberries.

"How good these will be with my bread and butter!" thought George Lining his cap with leaves, he set to work eagerly to gather all he could find, and then seated himself by the river.

It was a pleasant place, and George felt happy and contented. He thought how much his mother would like to see him there, and to be there herself, instead of in her dark room in the village.

George thought of all this, and just as he was lifting the first strawberry to his mouth, he said to himself. "How much Mum would like these!" and he stopped, and put the strawberry back again. "Shall I save them for her?" said he, thinking how much they would refresh her, yet still looking at them with a longing eye.

"I will eat half , and take the other half to her", said he at last, and he divided them into two heaps(堆). But each heap looked so small, that he put them together again.

"I will only taste one." thought he. As he again lifted it to his mouth, he saw that he had taken the finest and he put it back. "I will keep them all for her." said he with great happiness, and he covered them up nicely ready to take home.

It was Christmas Day. Pappy was working alone fixing an old lantern in the backroom when he heard the ringing of his bell on the shop door. The bell, which produced a uniquely pleasant sound, had been in Pappy's family for over a hundred years. He valued it dearly and enjoyed sharing its song with all who came to his shop. Although the bell hung on the inside of the main door, Pappy had tied a wire to the screen door so that it would ring whether the inner door was open or not. Hearing the bell, he left the backroom to greet his customer.

"And how can I help you, little lady?" Pappy's voice was joyful.

"Hello, sir." The little girl spoke almost in a whisper. She looked at Pappy with her big brown eyes, and then slowly scanned the room in search of something special. Shyly she told him, "I'd like to buy a present, sir."

"Well, let's see," Pappy said, "who is this present for?"

"My grandpa. It's for my grandpa. But I don't know what to get."

Pappy began to make suggestions. "How about a pocket watch? It's in good condition." The little girl didn't answer. She had walked to the doorway and put her small hand on the door. She shook the door gently to ring the bell. Pappy's face seemed to glow as he saw her smiling with excitement.

"This is just right," the little girl said. "Momma says grandpa loves music."

Just then, Pappy's expression changed. Fearful of breaking the little girl's heart, he told her, "I'm sorry, Missy. That's not for sale. Maybe your grandpa would like this little radio. "

The girl looked at the radio, bowed her head, and sadly sighed," No, I don't think so. "

In an effort to help her understand, Pappy told her that the bell had been his only companion, for the rest of his family were all gone now, except for his estranged (疏远的) daughter whom he had not seen for nearly a decade.

I wanted to go to a party. Especially it was a beach party. It had been almost the only thing my friends had been talking about for the last couple of weeks. But My mom had said no. The more desperately I pleaded her case, the more forcefully my mother said no. "I don't care who's going," said coldly my mother, "you are not going." I was heartbroken. This was my best friend's party.

Sunday dinner came around and my grandmother joined the family for the meal. Gran noticed my depression but didn't say a word. It was my turn to wash up and Gran said, "Let me help you." "What's up?" asked Gran as I dumped the dishes into the foaming water. Gran wiped a plate with a tea towel. "Mom won't let me go to my best friend's party." I said sadly. "Has mom explained why she doesn't want you to go?" asked Gran. "No." I replied. "Then for a moment, put yourself in her position." said Gran. "If you were mom, what would your objections be?"

I hadn't stopped to think about my mom's side. "Well," I answered, "it's a beach party. Maybe she doesn't trust us or thinks we'll get into trouble."

"Are there going to be any adults there?" asked Gran. "No," I said, "who wants their parents hanging around when you're trying to have fun?" "Might it just be," said Gran, "your mother doesn't want anything unfortunate to happen to you.""Nothing will happen." I objected. "Maybe you're right," said Gran, "but maybe mom's worried in case it could."

Gran looked at me gently, seeming to expect my agreement. For a minute or so, I kept silent, pondering for a while about my eagerness for the party. "Maybe, you are right, however, is there no hope?" I inquired. "Not necessarily." answered Gran, lost in thought.

Paragraph 1: "Then maybe think of a compromise." suggested Gran.

Paragraph 2: The long-awaited beach party finally came.

The library was typically so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. But on this Wednesday afternoon, there was a roar of laughter that spread through the halls. It was coming from a table in the back. Books were piled so high that one could barely see the source of all the noise. Brian and Josie were hiding behind the mountain of history texts, their faces bright red from laughing.

Mrs Cane, the librarian, followed the laughter and then approached the table. As she cleared her throat and looked over the piles of books, Brian and Josie looked up to meet her gaze. Mrs Cane looked at the books, then at the kids. "And what is it you two are supposed to be working on?"

Brian hesitated a moment, and then answered, "We're working on a paper for our history class."

"I see," Mrs Cane said harshly. "Perhaps one of the private reading rooms would be a better place for you to concentrate and study. Quietly."

The kids collected their books and their backpacks and followed Mrs Cane down a long hallway until they got to a dark row of doors. Mrs Cane pulled out a ring of keys from her pocket and unlocked a door. She turned on the light, which shone brightly overhead. The kids placed their books on the dusty table and reluctantly(不情愿地) climbed into the chairs. Brian and Josie shrugged(耸肩) and opened their books, finally focusing on the project at hand.

Time was ticking away. After what seemed like hours, Brian and Josie decided to take a break and when Josie opened the door of the room, Brian's eyes opened wide. The library was completely dark. Looking at his watch, he let out a gasp. "It's 9:30! The library closed an hour ago!"

Paragraph 1:

Brian looked through his backpack for his cellphone.

Paragraph 2:

They heard a noise that sounded like a telephone ringing.

Every time my family makes special plans, they end up getting canceled due to some incidents. Every time that happens, my parents would tell us to look on the bright side and make the best of a bad situation. However, I never managed to do that until this spring.

On a sunny morning this April, my aunt Kate invited us to the annual outdoor spring celebration on her farm. Since my family hadn't done anything different for ages, the whole family was very excited and everyone tried their best to make sure everything went well as planned. In order to add more fun to this exciting trip, my little sister Alice and my little brother Bill even joined me in making an extra-special treat-cupcakes. Full of joy and expectation, we were ready to set off.

The picnic was supposed to last from twelve to three. There was not enough time left. After checking the car again and again, my parents loaded books, a picnic blanket, and a whole big pack of foods and drinks into the car. The moment of our departure finally came at 11 o'clock.

However everything went wrong the instant we bravely drove off. First, we had to stop and wait for Bill to find his shoes. Next, as we were driving down the road, we had to go back to the house because my mom left her wallet behind. Then, about halfway to Aunt Kate's house, we had to drive far out of our way to find a place for Alice to use a bathroom.

After that, my parents decided it'd be quicker to take one little side country road as a shortcut (捷径). But the shortcut ended up turning into a long way! We drove forever on a winding road with wildflower fields spreading endlessly out on both sides and the deep green pine trees going on and on within our sight. I had no mood to appreciate all of those. Spotting hundreds of birds flying in the sky, I was seized by a growing sense of desperation, for I entirely had no idea when we could hit our destination.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

However, we had to stop on the way, for we were trapped there.

……

"Could we have a great time here?" I wondered.

 任务型读写

In a quaint hamlet, there resides an elderly gentleman by the name of Mr. Benson. He dwells in solitude, marked by a prominent facial scar that lends him an air of intimidation. Consequently, the townsfolk seldom engage in conversation with him, and he is often left to manage the arduous task of carrying his belongings up the steep stairs to his residence unaided.

Mr. Benson is devoid of companionship and has never been wed. However, a change is afoot in the community when a new family, the Clarences, relocates to the area. This family is composed of the amiable Mr. and Mrs. Clarence, along with their offspring, Amanda and David. They settle into the very edifice that houses Mr. Benson.

The existing residents of the building extend a warm welcome to the newcomers, greeting Amanda and David with kindness, but they caution them against interacting with Mr. Benson. They describe him as a formidable elder with an enigmatic scar, devoid of social connections.

Despite this, the Clarences find such admonitions to be nonsensical. Whenever they encounter Mr. Benson in the corridors of their building or on the street, they greet him with a friendly smile and inquire about his well-being.

Mr. Benson is immensely pleased by their approach. He extends an open invitation to the Clarences to visit his home, even offering Amanda and David some delectable cupcakes as a token of his appreciation.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence frequently assist Mr. Benson with his shopping, and the children, Amanda and David, enjoy spending time with him, sipping tea and listening to his enchanting tales. It turns out that Mr. Benson was once a renowned chef, capable of crafting the most exquisite desserts, as per Amanda's discerning palate.

One evening, the residents of the building are startled by the sounds of merriment, clinking crockery, and the clatter of cutlery emanating from Mr. Benson's apartment. This unusual commotion piques their curiosity, as it suggests a convivial gathering. The neighbors are left to ponder why they have not been included in what appears to be a delightful repast.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右。

The next day, Mrs. Clarence talks to her neighbors.

……

Soon, they all enjoy Mr. Benson's delicious cakes every weekend at their dinners.
