Once,in a lovely garden,lived the most beautiful butterfly in the world.She was so pretty,and had won so many beauty contests {#blank#}1{#/blank#} she had become very proud.One day,the naughty cockroach(蟑螂)got fed up with her showing off,and decided {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(teach)her a lesson.

She went to see the butterfly,and in front of everyone she said that the butterfly wasn't really that {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(beauty),and that the butterfly only won the competitions because the judges had been paid.In {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(real),the cockroach was the most beautiful.

The butterfly was {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(anger) and said to the cockroach,"I will beat you in a beauty contest,with whichever judges you yourself choose."

"OK,I accept.See you on Saturday," answered the cockroach,and left without {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wait) for a reply.

That Saturday everyone went to the beauty contest.The butterfly {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(arrive) completely confident of victory until she saw {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the judges were:cockroaches,worms and beetles.All of {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(they) preferred the ugliness and bad smell of the cockroach.

The butterfly was left {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(cry)and disappointed,wanting never to enter another beauty contest in her life.Fortunately,the cockroach forgave the butterfly for her pride and they became friends.

As I have perfect pitch(绝对音感) and started playing piano at 3 years old, it's much natural for me to join the school's choir when I got to college in the US.

At first, everything went pretty 1 . I passed the audition(试音), and was even invited to join the more selective Chamber Singers. However, I soon became 2 after several rehearsals(排练). From jokes to music theory, I simply couldn't understand what they were talking about! And when I 3 others' pitch mistakes, they seemed unwilling to accept. I remained silent even when I knew the pitches were 4 .

One fine day, a bus driver went to the bus garage, started his bus, and drove off along his route. No problems for the first few stops—a few people got on, a few got off, and things went generally well.

At the next stop, however, a big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet eight, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, "Big John doesn't pay!" and sat down at the back. The driver was five feet three, thin, and basically mild-mannered. Naturally, he didn't argue with Big John, but he wasn't happy about it.

The next day the same thing happened—Big John got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the one after that, and so forth.

This grated on the bus driver, who started losing sleep over the way Big John was taking advantage of him. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building courses, karate, judo, and all that good stuff. By the end of the summer, he had become quite strong—what's more, felt really good about himself.

So on the next Monday, when Big John once again got on the bus and said. "Big John doesn't pay!" the driver stood up, glared back at the passenger, and screamed, "Oh, yeah? And why not?" With a surprised look on his face, Big John replied, "Big John has a bus pass."

China's taijiquan, also known as tai chi — a major part of the amazing {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (open) ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and represented by numerous practitioners worldwide —{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (add) to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on Thursday. On its website, UNESCO described the cultural icon as "a traditional physical practice characterized by relaxed, circular movements that can be used {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (adjust) breath besides cultivating an honest and neutral (中性的) mind".

"Their inscription onto the list showed the unique value of intangible cultural heritage on people's health and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (sustain) development," said Wang Chenyang,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}inspector from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism who is in charge of the work related to intangible cultural heritage.

Taijiquan, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} originated during the mid-17th century in Wenxian county in Jiaozuo, Henan province, is practiced almost {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (day) throughout the country by people of all ages and ethnic groups, according to UNESCO's website. {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (influence) by Taoist and Confucian thought and theories of traditional Chinese medicine, the practice has developed {#blank#}9{#/blank#} several schools or styles named after a family or a master's personal surname, such as Chen style or Yang style.

They are passed down through clan-based transmission or the master-apprentice model, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} built upon the yin and yang cycle and the cultural understanding of the unity of heaven and humanity, UNESCO said.

Have you ever had a day when everything seemed to go wrong, and nothing seemed to go right? Not too long ago I was having one of those days. I was discouraged, weary, and 1 sad. My focus was on me, me, me. After all, no one else was experiencing the same 2 as I was. 

I expressed my depressed 3 to my mother. She didn't offer any comfort; 4 . she said, "I heard Jamie was having a difficult day too. Why don't you make her some 5 and we'll take them to her this afternoon?"

Zach Conti, who is a student in Eastern Michigan University and joined the football team as a walk-on (临时队员) in 2020, has worked at several part-time jobs to pay for his education. Now he won't have to anymore.

"Football is something I really love, so ever since I got to school, I've had to do whatever it takes to stay here and stay in a good position with my studies and football," Conti said. "I have to do many jobs, but when you really want something, you won't feel bored."

While Conti's teammates would see him going to or coming back to work, they were very supportive. But Conti still had trouble paying for his education and his mother's medical bills. He was planning on leaving the university.

Brian Dooley, who would get a scholarship, couldn't see that happen and decided to help his teammate. He told head coach Chris Creighton about the thing. Creighton went to see if an additional scholarship could be given out. The school allowed the team to give out five scholarships and another one was not allowed. Then Dooley went to the coach with a special request.

"Brian Dooley comes into my office," Creighton said during a team meeting on August 3. "And he says, ‘Coach, Conti should get a scholarship. And I've talked this over with my family. And if there's a way to make this happen, I am willing to give up my scholarship as a gift to Conti.'" That's when Dooley walked over to Conti and handed him an envelope with the scholarship inside.

Dooley explained the reason for helping his teammate "I did it because I've seen Conti grow over the long time. It would be a great pity if he walked away from something that he loves. He works so hard. In my eyes, he should get it 100 percent."
