It is fun being a vet. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}, every day is different! It all depends on what is wrong with the animals that come in.

    At my clinic, I work long days on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, and short days on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. Sunday is my day off so I can spend some time with my family.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} My clerk opens the door, turns on some music, and makes everyone a cup of tea or coffee. My assistant cleans and feeds the animals. The phones start to ring, and people make appointments. This is a very busy time of day!

    At 9 am, pet owners start to arrive with their sick pets. Appointments take up the whole morning.

    {#blank#}3{#/blank#} I don't examine any new sick animals. I use these two hours to have lunch and do all my paperwork.

    At 2 pm, I start to see sick animals again. At 5 pm, three students from a local school who love animals arrive to help out. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I am always happy to see their smiling faces!

    From 5 pm to 7 pm, I continue to see sick animals. Then, at 7 pm we close our doors and the clean-up begins! We tidy the clinic and feed and clean the animals Of course, we also stroke (轻抚) them and give them hugs !Then, we turn off the lights and go home. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

    I'm very happy being a vet, though unexpected things sometimes happen!

{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Of the 90 million pet cats in this country，about two­thirds are allowed to go outside. It is said that these cats kill hundreds of millions of birds each year as well as billions of small animals such as rabbits and field mice.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#}They can also bring illness to the animals that live in people's yard(院子)，and further weakening(变弱)the health of the natural populations.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Allowing pet cats to go outside is not just bad for birds and wildlife(野生动物). It is bad for the cats themselves, too. Outdoor cats can get sick very easily. They may be in danger from traffic and attacks(攻击)from other animals. In fact，outdoor cats usually don't pass the age of five, while indoor cats often live to be 17 or older.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Keep your pet cat inside！If you raise a young cat, it's your duty to let it play inside.

    As you know, homework is a big part of going to school. Luckily, here are several suggestions for you to make homework easy.

    Make a homework plan

    Most middle school students have two or three hours of homework a night. If it is a heavy homework day, you may need to spend even more time. It is a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule(进度表), especially if you are going to do sports or other activities after school.

    Watch where you work

    A bedroom, study or any room where you can get away from noise is good for you to do your homework. But don't study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.

    Take a break

    Most people's attention (注意力) don't last very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive(多产的) than if you stop to take a break regularly. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good way for most people.

    Get help when you need it

    Sometimes even though you are listening carefully in class, some subjects seem too hard. The first person to ask for help is your teacher. He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. Your classmates may also be able to give you a hand. However, this might not give you the results you want. Lots of people understand something well but are not able to explain it.

    There are many times we need to give gifts. Keep these tips in mind as you're thinking about what gift you'll give.

    Don't worry about what card to take with the gift. Cards are seldom used in China, so a Chinese wouldn't expect a card along with a gift.

    Choosing the right gift

    Gifts for family

    When you're meeting your partner's family, a gift is expected, food or fruit baskets are good if you have no idea what to give. If your hometown is known for a special food, buy some to take as gifts.

    Gifts for friends

    You can spend less money on friends than you do on family. Books, wallets, key rings and special foods like chocolate or coffee are good enough.

    Gifts for business partners

    When you're starting a business relationship, a tasteful gift will be better. Pens from your company or with the receiver's name is a practical gift. Local snacks from your area is a great gift too.

    Gifts to avoid(避免)

    You should remember not choose anything because of the cultural symbolism(文化象征) or the word shares a similar pronunciation to some bad things. Clocks, in Chinese, to give a clock has the same pronunciation as the phrase "songzhong". Umbrellas and shoes are not good gifts in China.

    In all, a thoughtful gift is great when you want to thank a friend, say goodbye to someone or meet families.
