Turay Lamin owns the only African restaurant in Beijing—Africa House. Many of Turay's staff （员工）and friends are new to China, but he is not. 

Turay moved to China in 1989 and he said China was a part of his life even when he was a child. "When I was a child, Chinese built a bridge about 10 minutes away from my home, "Lamin said. The construction（建筑）workers were also the reason he began learning Chinese at 13. "My home was a bread﹣making one, and we sold them bread. They gave me a book, a Chinese book, " Lamin said. Many Africans say they come to China for the opportunity（机会） to build their dreams. 

Rose Lin Zamoa moved here six years ago to work as a model and start a catering（餐饮）business. "The Chinese culture is completely different from the European culture. It's very close to African culture. Very!" she said. 

Many immigrants（移民）like Rose say they will leave China, but Turay says he is here to stay. "More Africans are moving to Beijing, " he says, "so my business is booming （迅速发展）. "

Studying too much?

Most people work or study from Monday to Friday. The weekend is usually a time of rest. But today's Chinese teenagers can hardly rest during the weekends. 

According to a survey, 24% of the Grade 8 students in Beijing have classes at the weekend. Over 40% of the middle school students have less than eight hours' sleep each night because of study. 

And this doesn't happen only in Beijing. Ji Chunying is a Grade 9 student in Guangzhou. The 14-year-old girl has to get up at 6:45am on Saturday. Then she has classes all the day. On Sunday, she goes to extra(额外)classes for math and physics. But Ji doesn't complain. She says her classmates all work very hard. 

Finding time to have fun

Zhao Ming, 13, is from Zhenjiang, Guangdong. Zhao's weekend is less busy. But he still spends Saturday in school. On Sunday, after finishing homework, he plays basketball. "I feel happy because I still have time to do the things I like. " he said. Some students are much luckier. Ding Yi, a grade 8 student from Laiwu, Shandong, is one of them. During the weekend, Ding usually gets up at 8:00a. m. . Then she spends some time doing homework. After that she is free to go shopping or watch TV. "My teacher says I don't need to push myself too much. " Learning well at school is enough, " Ding said. "I feel pretty lucky. "

Chloe Ho Pui-pui is an officer from Hong Kong Police Force. She volunteered for the 19h{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. In a training course, Ho got up close to horses to get firsthand knowledge {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Equestrian (马术) events. Her main job was to help two UK horse-shoers (蹄铁工) communicate with the Chinese workers who didn't speak English.

During the{#blank#}3{#/blank#}few days, it was hot and some people fell ill. "My role was to be ready to go wherever I was needed. So, I ran around the center, taking 10,000 steps each day," Ho said. In these days, she slept{#blank#}4{#/blank#}and always had to shout to be heard in noisy conditions. As a result, one day she had difficulty{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. On National Day, the organization invited Ho and other volunteers to a party because they had really set good examples for the public.

Since the beginning of this term, primary and junior high schools in Shenzhen have carried out a new measure(措施) to make sure that students have daily PE classes. Shenzhen is the first city in the country to require schools to provide daily PE classes for students at the compulsory(义务的) education level.

Buxin Primary School in Luohu District uses a"3+1+1" model, which includes three regular PE classes, one music- based exercise class, and one sports game class. As a result of the new measure, the number of PE classes at the school has risen to 200.

The number of PE teachers isn't enough for all the new classes, so the school has to ask teachers of other subject s to give some of the PE classes. Liu Xunhua, a Chinese teacher at the school, has taken on the role of a part- time PE teacher." Everything is for the students' health, and we support the new measure," Liu said.

Yuan Yinuo, a sixth grader from the school, believes sports activities help reduce stress,   especially considering the pressure graduating students are under. However, some parents are concerned about the reduced learning time of other subjects though they agree on the importance of daily PE classes.A physics teacher who has been working in Shenzhen for over 20 years has the same worry. He made a comment online," Adding daily PE classes is a good thing, but it's hard for me to complete normal teaching tasks because some of my classes have been replaced by PE classes."

In a reply, the city's education authority (官 方 ; 当 局) said schools can independently decide the number of weekly class hours and the time of each class for each subject, and that schools can also reasonably arrange(安排) the courses of each subject.

Reading an English newspaper is a good way to improve a student's language ability. As there are many useful words in an English newspaper, it may help students increase their vocabulary as well as improve their reading skills. They can learn new knowledge from the newspaper. But what is the right way to read an English newspaper? Do students need to look over all the words of the newspaper?

The first step is to choose a right newspaper with good language. Then turn to the front page and read the headlines to know what has happened. As the most important things are on the front page, it's easy to find out the article you're interested in and then turn to the page to read the whole of it. There is no need to go through all the articles. 

Secondly, read newspapers every day. Remember words through context(上下文). Once they appear several times, you will remember them easily. Don't look up every new word in your dictionary. You can try to guess the meaning between sentences. If you are wrong, don't give up. Keep reading and you will know the words better after reading them several times in different texts. 

Reading English newspapers makes us learn more. It can not only help us know what is happening in the world but also improve our language. 

To many in the Gulf （海湾），Ghanim Al Muftah is a well﹣known face. Ghanim was born in May 2002 in Qatar，without the lower half of his body because of a serious illness. Even though the young boy was only given 15 years to live by his doctors，his parents didn't give up on him. 

Ghanim was often very sad when he was at school. No one liked to play with him. His mother comforted him that his classmates were just afraid of hurting him，not scared of him. She also encouraged the boy to communicate more with his classmates and let them know more about his illness. His mother's words cheered him up and made him become more optimistic（乐观的）. 

Now，21﹣year﹣old Ghanim is an example to the world and especially to those fighting with physical disabilities. He used his weakness to develop a strong will（意志） . A surprising fact about Ghanim is that he loves sports and actively takes part in football，skateboarding，ice hockey and even scuba （潜水） . 

Ghanim is also one of the youngest businessmen in Qatar. His ice cream business provides jobs for the people in the city. At the same time，with his family's support，Ghanim has also set up an organization to give away free wheelchairs to those disabled people in need. 

The young boy lives up to the meaning of his name. "Ghanim Al Muftah" means "the winner" in Arabic. He is an example of strength and courage who teaches the world that no difficulty is big enough to prevent someone from living the life of their expectations.
