四川省广元市剑阁县2023-2024学年九年级上学期期末考试英语试题
On our second day in China, we had already been asked to join the school for supper. Nervous and unsure of the food and table manners, we politely agreed. Coming to China, the thing I was most nervous about was the food, and now my first dining experience would be with the school staff.
In Chinese culture the most important person sits facing the door. When plates of food started arriving, I wished I had practiced my chopstick skills before arriving in China.
Chinese culture is all about being hospitable (好 客 的 ). This means ordering lots of food and encouraging you to keep eating. It also means drinking wine or tea. You'll never have an empty glass.
It's polite to try everything, but if you know me, you would know l don't eat everything. Fresh fish? Sure, an entire fish on the plate staring at you while you pick at it. Not for me. Snails with their shell crushed and cooked into a meal?No thanks!The lung of a pig? I'll pass. It seems that the Chinese really eat everything!
The Chinese people are friendly. They want to learn about you and teach you about their culture. They like to ask questions, and it is polite to ask them many questions and keep the conversation going.
Every day I'm pushed out of my comfort zone (舒 适 区 ). But for the most part, I discover something I really enjoy. The experience itself is quite amazing, I've learned a lot, yet there's still so much to learn. It surely is different from my culture and way of living, but being in their shoes and seeing life through their eyes has really helped me to understand. And I look forward to discovering more!

Festivals have always been an important part of life and culture. In the modern age, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} festivals have appeared. Some of the new festivals come from different {#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the world. Some appeared just because of the interesting meanings of the dates.
Now people around the world {#blank#}3{#/blank#} International Women's Day, International Museum Day and International Nurses' Day. Other new festivals include 520 Day, Eating Day (May 17th), and Double 11 Day. 520 is on{#blank#}6{#/blank#} 20th. In Chinese, it sounds like "I love you" and 517 sounds like "I want to eat". Double 11 Day is 42. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} known as Singles' Day, because the date November 11th or "11.11" is about the number "1". So Double 11 Day is about "single". For many young people, new festivals seem to be much {#blank#}9{#/blank#} interesting than the old ones. But it doesn't matter whether they are old or new {#blank#}10{#/blank#} festivals always offer a great chance for us to enjoy life with our loved ones.

My parents usually celebrate a special day by enjoying a special kind of wine called Canadian ice wine.
My mother once told me the story of ice wine. To make it, people must freeze grapes on the vine. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Sometimes, a great new product is invented by accident. And that's exactly how we got ice wine.
In the 1700s in Germany, a man was away from his farm in autumn. The weather suddenly turned cold and his grapes froze when he came back. How terrible! Anyway, the man tasted the grapes. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Then, he decided to use these grapes to make some wine. Guess what? {#blank#}3{#/blank#}for two centuries, Germany was the only place where ice wine was made.
Then, a Canadian got the idea that this kind of wine could be produced in Canada, After all, the winters are cold in
Canada, and that's the main requirement for making ice wine. After hard work, some grape farmers found the best process. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
The story of ice wine got me thinking. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} It's really hard to imagine the world without penicillin and the microwave. Penicillin has saved millions of lives. And the microwave has certainly changed the way we cook.
Life is sometimes like that. When we look for one thing, something even better comes along…… if we keep our eyes and minds open.
A.To his surprise, the grapes tasted so sweet. B.People really liked his wine. C. What other inventions came about by accident? D. You might think this is strange, but it is true. E. And soon Canadian ice wine began to be sold all over the world. |
