根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

One day, I took an underground to work, I saw something that made me very sad. On the tube (underground in London), a mother kept looking at her phone screen and playing a game with her daughter sitting beside her. The little girl, about 5 years old, was talking to her mother about herday, repeating the next stop's name cheerfully, praising her mother's long nails—trying to draw her mother's attention. Her mother just nodded and mumbled "Mm, hm" with her eyes glued to the screen, busy passing the levels of the game. I watched the girl give a final try to at least get her mum to look at her, but it was no use. Then the little girl turned silent. It was a shame the mother didn't notice that.

It broke my heart and got me wondering—what kind of game would make the mother forget she has the most beautiful thing in the world, the human she created, the person she loves with all her heart? What it meant when she couldn't look into her daughter's eyes and even stop to listen to the girl?

Some parents are almost like the teenagers, always on their phones with mindless games or going through Facebook. Perhaps parents have many things to deal with, but sometimes they are everything to their kids.

This is not an isolated example. I've seen too many such examples. I might not be a parent myself, and probably still have a long way before becoming one, but I know what I saw isn't right.

The scene used to be seen among teenagers very often when parents complained how their children were crazy about their mobile phones. Look how the situation has changed! The parents have become "technology slaves", that is to say, they can't control themselves while using mobile phones.  Now some middle-aged parents hold the best iPhones or Samsung phones, which are probably the only two brands they know. They are playing the simple games with so expensive mobile phones. I'm uncertain whether to laugh or to cry. But my hope is that this storm passes.

(1)、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A、The girl failed to attract her mother's attention. B、The mother felt sorry after her daughter turned silent. C、The writer has much experience about being a parent. D、Middle-aged parents know many brands of mobile phones.
(2)、The underlined word "isolated" in Paragraph 4 means           .
A、spreading fast B、happening once C、increasing quickly D、appearing suddenly
(3)、In the passage, the writer mainly wants to express          .
A、the worries that children are crazy about mobile phones B、the happiness that parents are now able to use modern technology C、the sadness that the best smart pldones cost parents too much money D、the hope that parents use new technology4ike smart phones properly
(4)、What's the best title of the passage?
A、Middle-aged parents B、A scene on the tube C、Technology slaves D、Mindless phone games

You can relax if remembering everything is not your strong suit. Recent research makes the case that being forgetful can be a strength — in fact, selective memory can even be a sign of stronger intelligence.

Traditional research on memory has focused on the advantages of remembering everything. But looking through years of recent memory data, researchers Paul Frank and Blake Richards of the University of Toronto found that forgetting can be just as important to our decision-making as what our minds choose to remember.

Making intelligent decisions does not mean you need to have all the information at hand, it just means you need to hold onto the most valuable information. And that means clearing up space in your memory palace for the most up-to-date information on clients (客户) and situations. Our brains do this by generating new neurons (神经元) in our hippo-campus (海马体), which have the power to overwrite existing memories that are influencing our decision-making.

When we forget the names of certain clients and details about old jobs, our brain is making a choice that these details do not matter. Although too much forgetfulness can be a cause for concern, the occasional lost detail can be a sign of a perfectly healthy memory system. The researchers found that our brains further decision-making by stopping us from focusing too much on minor past details.

If you're an analyst who meets with a client weekly, your brain will recognize that this is a client whose name and story you need to remember. If this is someone you may never meet again, your brain will weigh that information accordingly.

We can get blamed for being absent-minded when we forget past events in perfect detail. These findings show us that our brains are working smarter when they aim to remember the right stories, not every story.

China is the hometown of tea. Before the Tang Dynasty,Chinese tea was sold by land and sea, first to Japan and South Korea

It is said that Chinese tea was discovered by Shen Nong.People say that he lived 5,000 years ago.One summer day,while he was visiting a faraway part of his country,so he began to boil(煮沸) water for himself to drink.Some dry leaves from a near plant fell into the water.Shen Nong drank some,Shen Nong was interested in the new drink.And so,tea was created in 2737 BC.

Drinking tea has many advantages(优势).It makes people feel less tired,drives heat inside the human bodies out and helps people lose weight.As you add a cup of tea to your daily life

•Drink it hot.Tea oxidizes(氧化) quickly,so you had better drink it hot.

• Do not drink too much strong tea.It will probably be bad for your stomach and make you feel sick if you make the tea too strong.

•The best time to drink tea is between meals.It may not make you have a strong wish to eat when your stomach is empty,or cause a stomachache when your stomach is full.

•Do not drink tea with any medicine.It may change the medical result.You can drink tea two hours after you take medicine.

•Green tea is the best choice for office workers.Why?Because green tea can help stop some bad results caused by the computer.

We all know that eating junk food can make us Et. However, a new study suggests that it can do more than that-it can also make us lazy.

In the study, researchers divided 32 rats into two groups. In the first experiment, the first group was fed a diet of healthy food such as com and fish, while the second was given a diet rich in sugar and fat, namely "junk food".

Within three months, the rats in the second group were already much fatter than those on the healthy diet. And when researchers trained the rats to do simple tasks, they found even more differences between the two groups other than weight.

During the task - pushing a lever to receive a prize of sugar - water  the rats on the junk food diet were found to be less willing to move, and they took longer breaks between each push than the fit rats did.

"It is as if the rat is thinking 'This is too much work," said the leader of the study.

According to researchers, these differences suggest that junk food changed the chemistry in the rats' brains.

The experiments didn't end there. After six months, researchers began the second experiment. The rats' diets were changed, and the overweight rats were given a healthy diet for nine days. However, this didn't help reduce their weight or improve their ability to perform tasks. It means the effects of their junk food diet lasted for long. "There's no quick way to reduce the harm," researchers said.

For a long time, we've believed that people become fat because they are lazy. But this study has shown that the opposite is true as well. Being lazy and getting fat can go hand in hand.

So, if you always feel tired, and not willing to get up from your chair, it could be that you've been studying too hard. But you should also pay attention to your diet.

New Uses for Old Clothing

Nowadays, we're more wasteful than ever—buying, using and throwing things away without thinking about the costs. We need to start living more responsibly—but how? One answer is to upcycle(升级利用).

What do you think of the "new" hat I made for my sister? It used to be my mom's sweater.

If you're like me, you might already make soil for gardening from food waste and use empty paper boxes as storage space. Did you know you can apply the same way to old clothing? You just need imagination!

I started upcycling clothing. Making new things out of old clothes is the best way to mix my talent and my interest.

Do you upcycle? If so, what new things have you made? If not, why not give it a try?

Why don't you give your old clothes to people in need? I even give away the most expensive things I don't wear anymore. So I can help the environment while giving something useful to people in need.

Gina Posted at 9:28 a.m.on 11th February 2021Reply

Good point! I'm talking about only the oldest clothing in your room—the clothes that are too old to be worn by others. The same idea goes for food waste at restaurants and supermarkets. Before upcycling food that can still be eaten, for example, using it to make soil, we should give it to those in need.

Betty99 Posted at 10:18 a.m,on 1lth February 2021Reply

I've made shopping bags out of T-shirts and dog toys out of socks. Upcycling clothing is a fun hobby, but the most important thing is that it makes me feel like I'm living less wastefully.
