One day, a boy finds a penguin at his door. The boy doesn't know where it comes from, but it begins to follow him everywhere. The penguin looks sad, and the boy thinks it must be lost. So the boy wants to help the penguin find its way home.

Later, he hears that penguins come from the South Pole*. So together, they carry everything they need during the journey to the South Pole. And the boy takes his rowboat to the sea. They row* south for many days and nights. To help pass the time, the boy keeps telling stories all the way. The penguin listens to everything that the boy says! Sometimes when they getbored, they do exercise together.

They float* through good and bad weather on the sea. Finally, they come to the South Pole. The boy is delighted, but the penguin says nothing. And it looks sad again as the boy helps it out of the boat. Then the boy says good—bye and floats away. When he looks back, the penguin is still there. But it looks sadder than ever.

After a while, he suddenly realises* the pengui n isn't lost. It is just lonely. Quickly he turns the boat around and rows back to the South Pole as fast as he can. He tries to find the penguin, but he can't . Sadly, the boy leaves for home. But then the boy sees something in the water ahead of him. It's the penguin! It is waiting for the boy.

At last, the boy and his friend go home together, talking of wonderful things all the way. The penguin is happy to enjoy those interesting stories again.

The Winter Solstice(冬至) is a traditional festival in China. It is on December 22 this year (2023). On the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere(半球) experiences the shortest day and the longest night in the year. From then on, the days become longer and the nights become shorter. The Winter Solstice also means the start of the coldest season in the year. 

There was a saying in ancient China, " The Winter Solstice is as important as the Spring Festival. " In ancient times, people worshipped(敬奉) the gods and ancestors on this day. 

During the Winter Solstice, people eat differently in different parts of China. In Northern China, eating dumplings is very important. In parts of southern China, such as Shanghai, people eat Tangyuan to celebrate the Winter Solstice. But no matter where you are in China, as the Winter Solstice comes, eating some nuts, such as peanuts, is good for your body. According to traditional Chinese medical science, they help to keep your brain and heart healthy. 

 Alice is a 6- year- old girl. She likes drawing(画画) very much and she draws every day.

 One day, after the rain(雨), she goes out(出去) with her father and her dog Coco." Wow, what's that?" she asks.

" It's a rainbow. How many colors can you see, my dear?" asks her father.

" Er… one, two, three… seven. Seven colors. It looks so nice."

 Then they go home."I want to draw a rainbow, Dad, but I don't have orange , green or purple," Alice says to her father.

" That's easy. You know what? We have the three colors. Let me help you. Mix(混合) red and yellow, and we can get orange. Mix yellow and blue, and we can get green. Blue and red can make purple."

" Wow, that's interesting! I have seven colors now. I can draw a rainbow. Thanks, Dad!" Alice draws a great rainbow. She is so happy!

International Day of Families

The International Day of Families is celebrated on May 15 every year. It is to raise people's attention to the happiness and progress of the family. To celebrate the 30th International Family

Day this year, Family Center will hold some family activities. 

Activities for the family:
☆ Family sports. 

☆Reading a letter to your family. 

☆A cooking competition among families. 

Time: 9:00 a. m. -5:00 p. m. , on May 15th

Place: on the South International Square

Prize:  first prize-a five-day foreign tour

second prize-a seven-day domestic(国内的)tour 
third prize-a four-day domestic tour

Rules:

Each family can choose two or three kinds of activities. When you sign up(报名), you should make a decision. All the letters must be written by families themselves. They will not be returned, so please keep a copy. Don't be late, or you'll not be allowed to take part in these activities. Families who want to take part in the activities must hand in their application forms(申请表)before May 5th or you can call 2877-2197 to sign up before May 10th. And we will provide breakfast and lunch.
