Jack is 10 years old, and I am his pencil. I'm Jack's helper（助手）.

    Jack's pencil box is my home. I have some friends here. They are seven crayons, a ruler, a pencil sharpener and an eraser. Because Jack loves me, I'm the king（国王）in the pencil box. My friends and I are happy every day.

    Today, I am not happy because a pen comes in. It's new and beautiful. It's a music pen. It can not only write（写） but also sing（唱歌）. But I'm old and I can only help Jack to write. Jack likes it so much! The new pen is his helper now. It's the new king. What can I do now? Shall I go to a new home?

One morning the Smiths all wanted to eat something, but there was only one piece of cake. Everyone thought (认为), "____".

Dad said Grandpa should (应该) eat it. He was old. He took the plate (盘子) to Grandpa.

Mum said Grandma should eat it. She did housework every day. She got the plate from Dad. Mia got the plate from Mum. She said that grandparents and parents should eat it. Her mother was very surprised (吃惊的), but then she was very happy.

Grandpa said Mia should eat it. He said she was very cute in the family. He took the plate to Mia.

Hearing what Grandpa said, they all thought Mia should eat it. But Mia couldn't eat it. She didn't want to take the plate.

Then the cake dropped (掉) on the floor. Bruno, a dog caught it in his mouth (嘴). He liked it a lot.

Then, Mia had an idea. The family went out, for ice cream, but they didn't take Bruno.

What do you usually do on Saturday? I usually go to Michael's Farm (农场) to see my grandfather and my cousins on Saturday. Michael is just my grandfather's name. 

It's far from my home to Michael's Farm. This Saturday, my friends Eric and Jim go there with me. At 10: 00 am, we start off by bike. We take a lot of food and drinks with us because we want to have lunch on our way to the farm. First, we ride on Blue Road for one and a half hours. Next, we have lunch under a tree near a crossing. After lunch, we turn left at the crossing and ride on Sky Road for another (再一的) hour to get to my grandfather's farm. Along the way, we are tired (疲劳的) but happy. 

My grandfather lives in a big farmhouse. He is very happy to see us. We help him water vegetables, feed (喂) animals and do some cleaning. We play games with my cousins. My grandfather cooks lots of food for us. 

We have a good time with my grandfather and my cousins on Michael's Farm. The next morning, we ride back home.

One year, a college in the Unites States announced that it would offer a lot of money for the pure white marigold(金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in the nature, besides golden, the marigold is brown, and it is not easy to get the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.

One normal day after 20 years, the college received a letter and 100 seeds of pure white marigold. It turned out to be anold woman of over 70 years old. Some experts in the college doubted it , but in order not to let her down, those seedsfinally took root(根) in the earth. The miracle appeared after one year: the field was covered by pure white marigold.

Therefore, the old woman who was always unknown to the public became a newfocus.

The old woman was a flower-lover. When she read the announcement 20 years ago, she got very excited like others. But her right children were totally against her decision. After all, a woman who never knew the seed genetics(遗传学)  couldn't complete what the experts could never do, so her thought was only a daydream.

Still, the old woman didn't change her mind and went on working. She planted some of the most common seeds and took good care of them. A year later, when the marigold came out, she chose one faintest(最暗淡的) from those golden and brown flowers and get the best seed. The next year, she again grew them and chose…. Day after day, year after year, through many seasons, the old woman's husband died, her children flew far and high, a lot of things happened in her life, but only the desire to grow the pure white marigold took root in her heart.

Finally, after 20 years on the day we all know, in the gardenshe saw a marigold which was not nearly white, but as white as sliver or snow.

A problem even experts couldn't deal with was solved by an old woman who didn't understand genetics. Wasn't it a miracle?

To take root in the heart, even the most common seed can grow into a miracle!

Teddy bears

Children everywhere love toy bears, and people have been making them for hundreds of years. They also like stories about young bears. Three of the most famous storybook bears are Rupert Bear, Pooh Bear, and Paddington Bear, and most children in Britain and America also know the story Goldilocks and The Three Bears. At the moment so many children and adults too like toy bears and there are shops that sell only toy bears of all kinds. 

Many people call toy bears "Teddy" although this name has been used only since the beginning of the 20th century. The word "Teddy" comes from Theodore and a man called Theodore Roosevelt was the president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Because people liked him very much and they called him Teddy, and because he had a toy bear, they called their own bears Teddy, too.
