C
When we have a conversation with someone, we may be using more body language than words. However, the same body language may mean different things in different countries. (A)sometimes, that's, understand, correctly, why, don't, each other, people. Pointing to one part of the body can mean differently in different cultures. For example, in the USA people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, in Europe it means “He or she is stupid or something is wrong with his or her head”. In our Chinese culture, nodding our head up and down means “yes” and shaking our head from side to side means “no”. However, in parts of India, Greece and Turkey, it means just the opposite. In England or the USA, when you raise your hand and make a circle with the thumb and the second finger, it means “You're all right or everything is OK”. However, if we do this in France or Belgium, it means “You're worth zero”. In Greece or Turkey, we should not make this gesture. Or we are thought to be very rude.
The meaning of gestures can also change over time. In the 1960s, the “V” sign meant “peace”. However, during World War Ⅱ, it meant “victory”.
(B)Though the meaning of body language is different, there are some expressions having the same meaning throughout the world, such as smiling and crying.

There are many colors in nature. But do you think that a color has weight? Let's do a test.
First, put two objects with the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} weight into two boxes. Then cover the boxes. Third, wrap (包裹) one box with a red piece of paper, the other with white. Now hold the boxes {#blank#}2{#/blank#} your hand one by one. Which one is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ? It is certain that you will think the red one is heavier. Why do you think so? A scientist did many {#blank#}4{#/blank#} and found that different colors have different weights in a man's mind.
Also, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be {#blank#}6{#/blank#} by using the colors you like. Or you'll be nervous {#blank#}7{#/blank#} even get ill. For example, you {#blank#}8{#/blank#} blue and hate red. If you stay in a room with red windows and wallpaper for two hours, you'll feel you have been there for {#blank#}9{#/blank#} hours. But if the room is blue, you'll feel you have been there for only an hour, And, if a person walks {#blank#}10{#/blank#} of a blue room and into a red room, his temperature will rise. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.
Sunshine Middle School is so nice! It is a very big school. Look! There are five school buildings. The classroom building is for students and next to the science building. There is a big library in front of the classroom building. You can read books in it. The office building is in front of the science building. Our teachers work in it. Our dining hall is just next to the playground. After school, many students play sports on the playground. I like playing basketball very much. What's your favourite sport? |
