Pass Our Love

There will be a speech about passing our love in our school next Tuesday.

It's no secret that there is a space（空间）problem in Manhattan（曼哈顿）.People build up higher and higher buildings because there isn't much land left and there is no room to build out.So people have been building lots of tall and thin buildings.Developers（开发商），the government has made laws（法律）that don't allow developers to build too high buildings.

Oiio Studio thinks about things differently， "what if our buildings were not tall but long？" So the founder of Oiio Studio，loannis Oikonomou（设计）a U﹣shaped building，the Big Bend.It would be a very thin building.It would curve at the top and return to the ground.Oikonomous said he thought of the great idea because he learned from a piece of news.It said that a company made a lift that could travel in curves.So he designed the Big Bend.He thought it as "the longest building in the world".It would be 4000 feet from end to end and would need a different lift system.

"We can't change the law，  ▲   .So if we can bend（使弯曲）our building，" Oiio Studio said.

The Big Bend is just an idea for now.Oikonomous has sent the plans to a few companies，and is looking for developers.If successful，they will build the Big Bend around West 57th Street

Most parents don't know what their teenage children are talking about when they are having a chat with their friends. This is also true when teenagers are using the language of texting to send messages. Words like 18r are easy to understand, but what about"POS"? I asked some parents what it means and only 28% got it right! It means that a parent is near and that they are watching what their child is doing.

Parents worry a lot and like to know what is happening in their children's lives at all times. This means they try to control as much of their children's lives as possible. However, they have no control over the language that their children use, so it is a useful way for children to keep parts of their life secret.

Parents also complain that they never have serious conversations with their teenage children. Teenagers are always busy phoning or texting their friends- even when parents are trying to talk to them. And there are times when teenagers aren't busy, but they just don't feel like having a serious chat with mum or dad!

One way to start real conversations is to make sure that the whole family eats together at mealtimes and that everyone has a chance to talk. Teenagers are trying to find out who they are. They aren't adults yet, but they are learning how to act like big people.

This means that it is a good idea to speak to teenagers like they are adults and it helps to listen to their ideas and opinions carefully. When parents talk to their teenagers, some good ad vice is" Don't sound like your own parents!". In addition, parents who try to use the language of teenagers often sound very silly. And that's because most times when an adult tries to use" teen talk", the words are probably already unfashionable!

What kind of places will you choose to live in? Many people like to live in big cities better, because there are many interesting things {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(see) and do there. People can visit all kinds of museums, watch the latest plays and movies. They can also do the {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(shop) in big malls and buy things from all over the world. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} there are serious (严重的) problems in big cities too. The cost of living is high, and some places in these big cities are very crowded and the traffic there is even{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(bad). Every year many people move to the cities because they think they can easily find {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(job), study at good schools and make a good living there. But{#blank#}6{#/blank#} fact, things are different in some way. It's difficult for many people to know what they want. It's not even easy to find{#blank#}7{#/blank#} nice and cheap place to live. The large population in the city makes it hard to stop heavy traffic. Also, the air {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(pollute) is more serious there than that in the countryside. 

Now {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(hundred) of thousands of people enjoy living in big cities, especially young people. They find it exciting {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(live) in the big cities. However, before moving to a big city, we'd better think about the problems of living there. 

In recent years, city cycling has become very popular across the country as a fun and healthy activity. Some people even join groups to go cycling together. They often go on long bike rides, thinking it's good exercise for both body and mind. However, they sometimes pay no attention to the possible dangers. 

On August 11, 2024, a very sad accident happened in Baoding, Hebei Province. A father was taking part in a cycling group activity with his 11-year-old son on a busy road. They were going very fast, at the speed of more than 37 km/h. Because of the fast speed and crowded group, the child fell off his bike while trying to keep up with the others. Unluckily, he was hit by a car coming from the other direction. The child was badly hurt and died later. 

This sad event should make all cyclists think more about safety and follow the cycling rules. There are some things we must do to prevent this kind of accident. 

●Parents should warn their kids of road safety and stop them from riding in dangerous places or racing on the road. As we all know, the laws say that children under 12 are not allowed to ride bikes on public roads. 

●Cycling groups and government officials need to make sure cycling events are well- managed and safe. 

Life is very important, and we must always think about safety. If everyone takes it seriously, we can prevent accidents as many as possible.
