    Mr. Hunt was living in a village and he wanted to go to an office one day. He got into his car and drove to the city. He went there without any trouble and stopped in front of the door. He locked his car and started to go into the office, but then he turned around and went back to his car. "I've left my keys in it!" he said to himself. Then he called his wife and said, "Excuse me, but I've locked my keys in my car, please bring your keys to me."

    Mrs. Hunt got into their second car and drove thirty kilometers to her husband. But while Mr. Hunt was waiting, he walked around his car and tried the other door. It was not locked. He locked it quickly before his wife arrived.

    Shaking the head doesn't always mean the same in different countries. Maybe some visitors would be surprised when they first come to India. When they talk to an Indian, they would find he would often shake his head. The visitors might think that the Indian doesn't like what they say. But in fact, they would be completely wrong. Indians always shake their heads when they talk to others. It doesn't mean "No". If someone wants to visit India, he should know this, or he will be in trouble.

    One day, a foreign officer went to India on business. He hired a car and asked an Indian to drive him. When he told his driver to take him to his office, the Indian shook his head at once. The officer said again and the driver shook his head again. At last the officer, of course, got angry.

    "How dare you refuse my order?" he shouted. "Drive me to my office at once!"

    The driver answered in quite a loud voice too, "Yes, sir!" But to the officer's surprise, the driver shook his head at the same time.

    The car started and the foreign officer was now too surprised to say a word. He thought about it for a while, and then he nodded with a smile, "'No' means 'Yes' here!"

    My mom only had one eye. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.

    She ran a small shop at a flea （跳蚤） market and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how she could do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates laughed at me, "Your mom only has one eye!" I was so angry with my mom. So I said to my mom, "Why don't you have the other eye?" My mom said nothing.

    I hated my one-eyed mom. I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later, I got accepted by the Seoul University. I left my mom and came to Seoul to study. Then I got married there. Now I am living happily as a successful man. I enjoy the life in Seoul because it's a place that doesn't remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger, until one day I saw my mom. She was still with her one eye. Even my daughter ran away, scared of my mom's eye. I screamed at her, "Who are you? I don't know you! How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter?" To this, my mom quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address." Then she disappeared out of sight.

    One day, a letter about a school reunion （学校聚会） came. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, which I used to call a house. There I found my mom fallen on the cold ground. Then a piece of paper in her hand came into my eyes. It was a letter to me.

My son,

    I'm so sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you. When you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mom, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye. So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son to see a whole new world for me with that eye. During the couple of times that you were angry with me, I thought to myself, it's because you love me. Don't cry for me because of my death. I love you so much."

    Once upon a time in a land far away, there was a wonderful old man who loved all kinds of small animals, such as spiders, insects and butterflies and so on.

    One day while walking through the woods, the nice old man found a cocoon（茧） of a butterfly. He took it home.

    A few days later, a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to make its body out of that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared it could go no farther.

    Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then got out of the cocoon easily.

    But it had a swollen（肿胀的） body and small shriveled（枯萎的） wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge to be able to support the body, which would contract（收缩） in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.

    What the warm-hearted man in his kindness did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were Nature's way of forcing fluid（体液） from the body of the butterfly into its wings, so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

    Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were allowed to go through our life without any difficulties, it would be bad for us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly.

    Last weekend, Dave, Bob, Alice and Ann had a trip on the island not far from their houses.

    Dave rode his bike to the river with his guitar at eight first. Then Alice got there. She took No 5 bus to go there. But why didn't Bob and Ann come? They decided to meet at eight. At ten past eight, Ann came. She said, "I'm sorry I'm late. I have to walk here because my bike doesn't work." Ann could play the violin very well. She took it with her. Another twenty minutes passed, Bob arrived there." Bob, you're late", Dave said. "Hmm. On my way, I helped a boy find his parents," said Bob. "Oh Bob, you re great. You're a good boy." All the other children said.

    The boat ride took them about twenty minutes. At twenty to nine, they came to a boat and took the boat to the island. Wow, the island is green everywhere. It's really great.

    They did something interesting there. First they enjoyed the wonderful sights(景色).Then, they had some fruits and drinks.

    At last, they had a show. Dave played the guitar. Ann played the violin. Alice danced and Bob sang. They had a fun time.

When it comes to traveling the world, it's easy to tell yourself you'll have time to do it later. There are plenty of reasons instead of {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(wait) for the"perfect"time. The fact is there will always be {#blank#}2{#/blank#} excuse not to travel. When you travel while you're young, you can throw yourself in head first and learn more about yourself and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} you want out of life—while you still have your whole life ahead of you.
