In my living room, there is aplaque that advises me to “bloom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}youare planted”. It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program. Thejob {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(responsible) requiredoccasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothystands out in my memory as on one {#blank#}3{#/blank#}bloomed in her remote area.

       Dorothy taught in a remote school nearHarlan. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wind) around the mountain. In theeight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving thepossibility of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(catch) by thesame train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive throughmountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the smallshabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hope).

        From the moment of my arrival at thelittle school, all my gloom disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy's classroom,I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(prepare) to show me their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(late) projects. Dorothy told me witha smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread they madethemselves for dinner.

        Lonely {#blank#}9{#/blank#}she was far away from the moderncivilization and convenience, she never ran out of reports of excitingactivities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooleddown. She passed all the tests {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(excellent)and I found that Dorothy was really blooming where life had planted her.

    Percy Bysshe Shelley was an English poet of the early nineteenth century.He {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (know) as one of the most important poets in English literature.Some of his poems，like Ozymandias and Ode to the West Wind，are listed in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (famous)poems in England.

    Shelley was born in Horsham，Sussex.He was the son of a member of Parliament.He attended the University of Oxford at the age of 17 {#blank#}3{#/blank#}  he was not popular with his classmates and teachers for being an atheist(无神论者).{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (final)，he was fired from the university.He married a kind girl，but he left his wife {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (make) trips in Europe.After his first wife's {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (die)，Shelley married Mary Godwin.She later became as famous as Shelley and she was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  author of the novel Frankenstein.

    Shelley left England and spent much of his life {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (travel) in Europe，especially in Italy.He became a close friend {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the poet Lord Byron，who also left England and traveled in Europe because of argument at home.Shelley kept writing poetry throughout this time.

    About a month before his thirtieth birthday，Shelley died in a boating accident.After his funeral，his ashes were buried in Rome，a perfect resting place {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (think) by Shelley.

    Domestic robots such as the Roomba have already established themselves in the marketplace. Common household appliances such as toasters and microwaves {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(fit) with microprocessors, effectively making them robots, which are bound to do as ordered. The military has begun automating (自动化) many of its frontline systems. The future is wide open for more exploration of these{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(device).

    Automatic factories were some of the first to implement (实施，运用) robotics on the assembly line, performing tasks too dangerous or delicate for humans{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(accomplish). Recently Caterpillar{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(announce) plans to operate robotic heavy machinery by 2021, and has already begun transferring much of their crane operations to remote-controlled robots{#blank#}7{#/blank#}obey the orders from computer directions. The medical industry has taken advantage {#blank#}8{#/blank#}robotic surgery assistants for years, most notably the Da Vinci surgical (外科的) helper. With rising health care costs{#blank#}9{#/blank#} the increasing needs of an aging population, hospitals are planning vast expansion in the areas of {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(talent) robotics.

    Our trip was fantastic. Every driver and every tour guide{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) knowledgeable, and tried to meet our interests and wishes. As Erich practiced his Chinese with them, they responded in English. The locations{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(select) by us were most interesting. Although I am not used{#blank#}3{#/blank#}sub-zero weather,{#blank#}4{#/blank#}was Harbin that I would recommend to any travel lover because it was so unique. All of the sights were unique with so much to offer. If we hadn't gone on the trip to Harbin, we would {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  (have) no chance to enjoy all the sights there then.

    The hotel accommodation was comfortable. We had one experience when the power went off in a block that contained our hotel, but{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(fortunate), the power was restored within a few hours. The restaurants were as unique as the areas{#blank#}7{#/blank#}we went and a Chinese cuisine was enjoyed by all four. Our guides made certain that our meal was ready and to our{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (tasty).

    If our son and daughter-in-law stay another year, we will discuss a repeat visit next year around the same time. As Erich and Caitlin are students at an in ternational university in Tianjin, the trip revolves around their academic schedules. We are quite pleased with the nice{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (serve) provided by the relevant people {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(show) our friends and family we have taken lots of photos and videos.

    Wi-Fi is a word which has its own little brother in the form of a complex password which, no matter how hard you try, you can never guess. Generally, it {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (stick) to the inside windows of cafes and hotels as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} extra way of attracting customers. Even on public transport and in shopping {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (center), it's becoming more common. Last summer, I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (spend) four months working in France, where the company I was working for put me up in a house {#blank#}5{#/blank#} didn't have Wi-Fi. I was looking forward to it. I soon discovered, however, that {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (live) in a house without Wi-Fi was easier than I had expected before. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} I couldn't enjoy my usual web browsing (浏览) on BBC iplayer, social media site, and keeping up-to-date with the news, I could spend more time with my housemates. I read more, I cooked for my friends and I even tidied up {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (often). I learned how to live without Wi-Fi. I found it was easier than I had imagined. My experience this summer made me {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (reflect) on how much we do use Wi-Fi. It's possible not to be so dependent {#blank#}10{#/blank#} it. Try it and see.
