Although most people believe that formal schooling is required for scientific success, a college degree is not always necessary.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}excellent example of a man who won fame as a scientist {#blank#}2{#/blank#}academic(学术的) training is Vincent J. Schaefer. His formal education ended {#blank#}3{#/blank#} two years of high school when he had to go to work in an untrained job at General Electric. Because {#blank#}4{#/blank#} his inventive mind and his skill as a model maker, he was soon allowed to try his own experiments in the company laboratory. His natural {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (curious) made him wonder about clouds. He developed, after many tries, a method of making clouds rain {#blank#}6{#/blank#}they would not normally do so.     In recent years, learning Chinese{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(become) popular among people around the world. Last month, I received an email from my cousin Jack in Canada. He said he was enthusiastic{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Chinese, and asked me to find him some books{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(intend) for Chinese beginners. I was very pleased to do{#blank#}4{#/blank#}a favor.     A Frenchman went to a small Italian town {#blank#}1{#/blank#} stayed with his wife at the best hotel there. One night, he went out for{#blank#}2{#/blank#}walk alone. It was late and the small street was dark and{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(quietly). Suddenly he felt someone behind him. He turned his head and saw an Italian young man {#blank#}4{#/blank#}walked past him quickly. When he returned to the hotel, the Frenchman told his wife what had happened. He was {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (great) surprised when his wife pointed to the watch on the table. Then he{#blank#}10{#/blank#}  (realize) that by mistake he had robbed the watch and it was the Italian's.

    We are what we eat because what we eat every day has {#blank#}1{#/blank#} great impact on our health. Therefore, we should make every effort to change our bad eating habits. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} we all know, baked or fried foods may be {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (taste), but eating too much of them will {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (probable) result in some illnesses. Moreover, junk food that costs us a great deal of money but is not healthy.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (compare) with people in the west, Chinese people used to eat more grain and vegetables but {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (little) meat, which is a good eating habit. However, things are quite different now. With the rapid economic {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (grow) of our country, now we are also eating a lot of food high in sugar and fat. We {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (run) the risk of eating unhealthily without considering the balance of our diet.

    The food we choose affects our health, so we must keep it {#blank#}9{#/blank#} mind that the food we choose should give us the nutrients that {#blank#}10{#/blank#} need.
