Being overweight can cause depression even when no other
health problems exist, according to a study released Tuesday by the University
of Exeter.
A team {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (lead) by researchers from the University of
Exeter analyzed UK Biobank data (基因数据库) from more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 48,000 people with depression and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (compare) them to another group of more than
290,000 people.
While {#blank#}4{#/blank#} has long been known that depression is more
common in obesity, the team concluded {#blank#}5{#/blank#} higher body mass index(体重指数) can cause depression in itself, even
in the obese {#blank#}6{#/blank#} other health problems.
Our genetic analysis concludes that the psychological impact
of being obese is likely {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(cause) depression. This is important
to help target efforts to reduce depression, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} makes it much harder for people to adopt {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (health) lifestyle habits, said Dr Jess
Tyrrell. The team tested their results in many people and they reached {#blank#}10{#/blank#} same conclusion, verifying their results.
The study has been published in the International Journal of
Epidemiology.
