Cathy and I met a few days after I first arrived in China. I was walking around the English academy which had 1me, introducing myself to my new colleagues, most of whom were Chinese. I entered Cathy's2 , saw her, and immediately felt some 3 and happy emotions. She 4 so kind, yet professional. I couldn't stop smiling like a (n) 5 . After introducing ourselves and exchanging6 questions, I asked whether she knew anyone who could7 me in Chinese. She said she could, and 8 to meet after work.

    We sometimes exchanged non-romantic texts in the evening. After a couple9, I invited her to my apartment. I was very nervous. Later, I asked if she would consider 10 me. She didn't immediately 11, but said she would tell me the next day. I found it very difficult to 12, but wait I did.

    This was a13 difference. In American culture, starting to date someone is not a bit important 14, but I think in Chinese culture it is. Well, she said “yes”, and so we spent lots of time together, and 15 love. I asked her to 16 me about 6 or 7 months later.

    We had a Chinese style 17 in Cathy's hometown. My parents came, and it was great. It went really 18. Everyone was very 19. It was a very fun and interesting 20 for me, very different from a Western style wedding.

    I was said to be the worst student in my class, and my family thought I was hopeless. I had to 1 grade six. At that time a new teacher, Miss Sadia, came to our school.

    One day after class, she2 that I was staying alone during the lunch break. She came 3 to me and began to talk to me. It was just a normal conversation. After that day, she gave me particular4  and it made me feel special. I started to work hard because she gave me the feeling 5  someone believed me, and my6  started to improve in her subject.

    Months later, she moved into a house near my7 . We would walk home together after school. Her constant (不断的) support helped me, 8  in my studies, as I knew she would check my grades both in her subject 9  the other subjects. I finally 10 second in my class.

    Then, after grade six, she started to slowly drift away (疏远) 11 still kept a constant check on me. By the time I was in grade seven, we 12  spoke, but by then I had become the 13  in my class. When I left my school, I was 14 with her, as she never answered the15  when I called her.

    Then I graduated and went to a good university. One fine day, our paths 16  again. I met her at a wedding. I could not 17 asking her, "Why did you stop talking to me?"

    "You are a clever boy. I wanted you to be a tree 18  on your own roots, not depending on others. Now here you are and I feel 19  of you. You are your inspiration(灵感，鼓舞) and do not need to 20  a shoulder," she said. I could not say anything, but I smiled. I'll always thank her.

    I'd been proud that I'd never lost my cellphone until my husband Jack got a call one evening.

    We went to visit a friend in hospital last year. When Jack's 1 rang, it was my mother calling from my 2 . She asked if I had 3  my mobile. I checked my purse. It was 4 !

I used Jack's phone to call my number. Then a boy, whom I'll call Rhys, 5 it. "I found your phone!" he said, excitedly. "I have been trying to find you, but 6 it was getting late, I decided to leave." He gave me the address of a 7 near his home.

    Later that evening, I went to 8  him there. I didn't dare to go 9 , worrying this was some cheater. So Jack came along. After 10  10 km, we got to the coffee shop which Rhys 11 .

My 12 were gone. Rhys was just a young boy. "How did you 13 my mum?" I asked. He 14 that when he found my mobile by the roadside, he started calling people in my list of contacts (联系人). But all they 15 was my mobile phone number — which didn't 16 . He'd called many names, starting with the letter A. Finally he got Adam, one of my friends, who 17 my house.

    I was 18  to get my phone back with all the contacts, messages and photos I could have lost forever. I was so 19  to Rhys and offered him so me money, but he 20 .

    As we drove back, we praised Rhys for his honesty.

    Bob Weiser had been driving for Uber for more than six months 1 a conversation with an old friend sparked the idea. Everyone that rode in his car had a story to tell, a 2 life experience or some wisdom they'd picked up along the way. What if he could collect "a slice of life" from each of the hundreds of people 3 in his car , whose only known 4was that they ordered an Uber in Chicago and had Bob Weiser 5them up in his car?

    Bob Weiser, aged 66, is a 6 pilot who started driving for Uber last year as a way to keep7. "You never really retire, and you always have to do something," he said. He8a black notebook. On the inside cover, he wrote " It belongs to all that read it with a(n) 9heart and mind."

    Now, when passengers get in his car, he'll pass them the 10 and ask if they'd take a moment to write something in it. He has11 more than 800 entries(条目) from passengers from all over the world.

    Weiser 12 one woman who wrote Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's " Be the change you want to see in the world." Then she flipped back and 13 someone else had used the same quote. She told him she was 14 and he said to her, " No, that's okay. That's the type of energy that has been in this 15, nothing but good energy." After his passengers write something , they'll flip through the pages, 16all the advice and opinions shared by the passengers who came before them.

    He flips through it himself sometimes; it always17him that people have so much warmth and positivity to 18. No one has written anything 19, and only a handful have turned him down, 20because they have carsickness.

    Ten years ago I was visiting Costa Rica when I found I was in a bad situation. I only knew basic Spanish, and the only 1 I had was some coins and a return ticket to Guatemala in two weeks.

    With the coins, I managed to arrive at Santa Rosa by bus. It was 2 in the middle of the night, but I could see some 3 in the distance, so I 4  toward them.

    I went 5 door to door, explaining my situation. “I can 6 and clean and look after your kids, I can do anything, can you give me a 7 ?”Everybody replied saying “Oh my gosh, but we are so 8.We have no extra food. Maybe you can try the next 9.”

    Finally, I arrived at a Chinese restaurant, the owner of which was incredibly 10 .She told me that her son had a(n) 11 experience. At that time, some other people were very kind to him, and she remembered how 12 that made her feel. She called the Red Cross to 13me. With their help, I spent my 14 days in Costa Rica.

    I've 15 all over the world. But this was one of the best trips, the best two 16 I ever had in my traveling life.

    At first, I felt 17 and stupid for not traveling with a clear plan. But then I realized that when you're in a position to be able to 18, it actually makes people feel happier. Being able to receive kindness is a 19 for other people as well. And kindness 20 more kindness in small ripples(涟漪).

    I come from a small rural area, where college education is very important to make a good living. I am considering gaining a good 1and a job I absolutely love. My parents weren't so 2to have such an opportunity. My dad dropped out of school during his senior year to drive truck and move out on his own.

    As a high school student, I know I can be very smart if I 3 myself so I've studied a lot of courses. I plan to attend college, one of the 4I'm faced with. Though we aren't wealthy and college can be very 5, I intend to get a good education so my 6can have a better life. Knowing college is very hard to 7 pushes me to do my best. Luckily, Colorado State University (CSU) can offer a lot and will 8my plan.

    My 9has always been to do well in my life and give my family a better 10 of life. The life I live isn't bad but I want to try to make a11. My life is 12of ups and downs but I always keep my head high and make the best out of every 13. I first understood it when I started realizing my parents 14financially for what we really needed. Nowadays it gets 15 to support a living in this economic depression. Seeing this, I want to make a change and get a good job that I will 16for the rest of my life.

    I 17to go to CSU and major in biomedicine. I can get distracted easily, but 18this shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep my goals in sight. I have determined to do well in college and 19in life. CSU would be a(n) 20opportunity with a great environment and it would be an honor to be a student there.
