My feelings about science have {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (complete) changed. The science teachers {#blank#}2{#/blank#} my new school are excellent and {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (friend). The science{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (facility) are very good with laboratories that have all the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (late) equipment. Our chemistry teacher takes us to public science lectures about four times {#blank#}6{#/blank#} term, which are always interesting, because the lecturers are famous at {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (them) area of science. In the last 20 years, seven Canadian scientists {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (win) the Nobel Prize. Now {#blank#}9{#/blank#} I'm becoming more and more interested in is physics and I want to study it at university. But my parents are {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (astonish), as they always thought I would become an English teacher.

    China, which takes pride in inventions in ancient times, has once again shown its{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(able) to change the world with its “new four great inventions”: high-speed railways, electronic payments, shared bicycles and online shopping. The “new four great inventions” are all related{#blank#}2{#/blank#}China's high-tech innovation(创新){#blank#}3{#/blank#}improved the quality of people's lives. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat{#blank#}4{#/blank#}I want simply with a tap of my phone,” said Lin Jinlong{#blank#}5{#/blank#}overseas Chinese student from Cambodia{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(add) that “even pancake sellers are using Alipay (mobile payment). We can also order food at home, which is super convenient. If I{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(be) at home in Cambodia, I would have to go outdoors.”

    The bikes themselves are not new, but the operating model of bike-sharing is based on satellite navigation system, mobile payment, big data and other high technologies. It is{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(increase) clear that China is innovating and no longer copying Western ideas. This is partly because China skipped over the PC age and went directly to mobile. China has the{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(large) mobile use in the world.

    In terms of the “new four great inventions”, Charlie Dai, principal analyst of American market research company Forrester, said, “These products and services{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(improve) customer experience so far, improving national and global economy at the same time”.

    Gymnast Shawn Johnson is my favorite athlete. Back at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, I was very {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (excite) when she won the gold medal on the balance beam. Years later, Shawn wrote an autobiography, Winning Balance. I was only ten years old{#blank#}2{#/blank#}she wrote her book and I wanted to wait a few years to read {#blank#}3{#/blank#} since I had a feeling that I wouldn't understand the book then.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (release) in June 2012, the book won much popularity among her fans.

    Shawn talks about her experiences as a gymnast and her post-Olympic life in her book. One of the things that she wants her readers{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(get) from reading the book is that “behind all the glory and glitz(浮华) I am able to have a normal life”. She hopes that her reader, especially {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (girl) in middle school and high school, will get really{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(encourage) by reading her book and believe that dreams will{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(actual) come true. I believe that gymnasts around the world {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(take) a lot from this book because in some situations they experience {#blank#}10{#/blank#} same things in gymnastics.

    In many countries, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} is not unusual for families of different backgrounds to live together in the shared space. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, in the United States, this idea may still be considered odd.

       But this type of housing, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(call) co-housing, is gaining {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (popular) in the United States, too. Co-housing complexes are popping up across the country. For many people, this way of life is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} relief to the busy modern lifestyle. There is often a “common house” with a kitchen and dining room, meeting room, and maybe a workshop of library or music room in a co-housing community.  About 25 co-housing communities {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (build) in recent years, and 150 more are planned.

    A co-housing complex is a place {#blank#}7{#/blank#} residents shop, cook, and eat together. Residents of a co-housing complex like its sense of shared community. Children have other kids to play with, which many families like. The feeling of living in a “village” is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} other residents like. Residents also say that they can live in co-housing for {#blank#}9{#/blank#} money than they would pay {#blank#}10{#/blank#} nearby apartments.

    "How should a Nobel laureate dress?" asked Kazuo Ishiguro, who, 40 minutes earlier, had found out he {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(award) the Nobel Prize for Literature.

    To say the news was unexpected is an understatement. He literally couldn't believe it. Until that was, his phone began to ring constantly, an orderly queue of TV crews started to form outside his front door ("how do they all know where I live?"), and his publishers dispatched a top team to his house as back-up.

    This was not fake news. This was delightful, surprising news. Maybe there were others who {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (win) instead, he wondered. "But that is the nature of prizes. They are a lottery." {#blank#}3{#/blank#} chaos reigned around him, he was calm, assured and thoughtful, talking (after nipping upstairs to fetch a smart jacket for our interview) about his belief in the power of stories and {#blank#}4{#/blank#} those that he wrote would often explore wasted lives and opportunities.

    "I've always had a faith that it should be possible, if you tell stories in a certain way, to transcend barriers of race, class and ethnicity."

    For me, he is one of the great living writers working in any language. All writers can tell stories. Ishiguro tells stories on {#blank#}5{#/blank#} level.

    He places the reader in some sort of alternative reality - which might be the future, it might be the present, it might be the past. They feel like places that are whole and real, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} you don't know them.

They're weird and not necessarily happy places. But they're places that you can inhabit and relate to, and you become deeply involved with the characters. That's the writer's job—he just does it better than most.
