When difficult people express themselves orally, they generally want at least two things: they're been heard and they're been understood. As a good communicator should be a good listener, five steps are advocated towards good listening.

The first step is cooperating. In fact, it's through the way you look and should while he is talking. You do this by nodding your head in agreement, making certain sounds of understanding.

When the person begins to repeat what's been said, it's signal of step two: turning back. It means that you repeat back some words he is using, sending a clear signal that you're listening carefully and that you think what he is saying is important.

At this point, you start to gather information about what is being communicated. Ask some open-ended questions, which will allow you to figure out what intention he is hoping to satisfy.

The fourth step is to summarize what you've heard. This allows you to make sure that both you and the difficult person are on the same page. When you do this, two things happen. First, if you've shown that you're making an effort to understand completely. Having listened carefully, you've now arrived at the point of confirming with the person that he feels that his thoughts have been fully voiced.

When enough sincere listening, questioning, and remembering are brought together, understanding is usually achieved and a difficult person becomes less difficult and more cooperative.

A. You may help him to fully express his thoughts and feelings.

B. Why does this happen?

C. Ask if he feels understood.

D. This increases possibility of gaining cooperation from him.

E. Talk with him about what he thinks of his expression.

F. Having heard what he has to say, the next step is clarifying.

G. How does a difficult person know that you're listening and understanding?

{#blank#}1{#/blank#}You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:

Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time.

Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

Make good use of your time in class.  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.

Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you'll remember it longer.

Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won't end if you don't pass a test, so don't be over worried.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#} You will probably discover them after you have tried these.

A. There are other methods that might help you with your studying.

B. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.

C. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.

D. No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.

E. Maybe you are an average student.

F. Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teacher says in class.

G. This will help you understand the next class.

Want to improve your language skills? Follow the tips.

    Embrace authentic language

Go to find what you love—movies, audiobooks, podcasts, or comics. Or travel back in time to your favorite childhood Disney songs. You may find that you even want to sing along with them.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Language teachers call these “authentic texts”,which is simply another way to say that this is real, living, breathing language.

Use your devices

Think of the technology you use on a daily basis. How about changing the display language?{#blank#}2{#/blank#}It might be worth making a mental note of how to change the language back though, just in case.

    Build associations with your environment

    Your environment is full of vocabulary. Sticky notes are your friends when it comes to labeling every object in your house. Handy tip: Don't just label stuff, build associations with useful vocabulary. For example, don't just write “the light switch” but also “to turn on”,“to turn off”,“bright” and “dark”.Reading these associations regularly will help solidify them in your mind.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

Less is more—when you do it regularly

Make it a habit to learn as much as you can every day—and “can” is the operative word here. You've got half an hour? Great. Only 15 minutes today? No problem. It's still better than cramming for a weekend and then doing nothing for a couple of weeks.{#blank#}4{#/blank#}If you're able to integrate language learning into your day instead of trying to set aside “extra” time for it, the chances of it becoming a habit are much better.

Find someone to talk to, even if it's you

Finding a native speaker to talk to is an absolute must if you want to learn a language.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} And don't be afraid to chat in the language you're learning: everybody who's ever learned a language has done this at one stage or another. It's perfect for building your confidence, or trying out new words, so it becomes the second nature.

A. What's important is that you learn regularly, and that you find time for it in your daily routine.

B. Waiting at a cafe? Scan the headlines on China Daily, of course, the English version.

C. Try making little sentences with them as you go about your day—talking to yourself can be invaluable.

D. While you're walking the dog, listen to that foreign language podcast.

E. Jingles and songs learned in any language stick in the mind for decades.

F. Your computer, your smart phone, your browser, your apps, your GPS, and of course any games you play.

G. Get someone else who's learning the language, a classmate or colleague.

Tipping is part of everyday life in many parts of the world. It's usually an informal charge that's paid on top of the bill to show appreciation to the person who has provided you a service.

Tipping culture can vary from place to place. In the Middle East, people who serve usually try to be more helpful. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. An example is the tour guides of Egypt. When a tourist goes around a famous site in Egypt like the pyramids, they'11 often be accompanied by a very qualified tour guide. Thanks to the guide, a tourist will certainly know more about the pyramids than he or she did at the start. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

In some places, tipping doesn't exist at all. Tips aren't part of life in China, South Korea or Japan. But in other places in Asia, not leaving a tip can lead to trouble. An American travel agent told Conde Nast Traveler that in India, for example, a person who doesn't leave a tip after a meal in a restaurant will often be chased down the street. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, he said.

Many people only give tips on a subjective (主观的)basis. But it's this subjective aspect to tipping that can cause problems. On the one hand, they don't want to be mean; on the other hand, they don't want to pay too much and feel that they've been cheated. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

A common solution for this problem is to offer a guideline on the check. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.

This can prevent the awkwardness when it's time to pay up.

A. Tips are then given to appreciate the expertise of the guide

B. If you tip badly, people think less of you

C. They'll run after you and scream for money

D. It will suggest that a certain percentage of the bill should be paid on top as a tip

E. Very often people who travel to the United States forget to tip

F. After all, a tip isn't part of the bill

G. But they may expect a little extra in return

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

A. In general the person feels excited and ready to act.

B. They say that laughter is much healthier than anger.

C. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.

D. Anger may cause you a cancer.

E. Do not express your anger while angry.

F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.

G. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.

{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.

    For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person's health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones (荷尔蒙). They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, "{#blank#}4{#/blank#} Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably."

    Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Time is something that we all are taking for granted these days. We spend hours watching TV or playing mobile games, thinking that this is just normal. I find this a waste of time. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Every second is valuable and we should rethink of ways of spending our time.

{#blank#}4{#/blank#}If you have only one chance to do something for someone, why not do it to the best of your ability? It should not matter whether you are being rewarded or not. You will take pride in your work because you've done your best. Trust me, quality efforts will be rewarded in time.

Lastly, every moment you spend in doing things is the time taken from your life. Don't waste your time away working day and night just for money. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}The value of your time is measured by how you spend it and whom you choose to spend it with.
