Lasting a Lifetime

      Sidney Wilson's watch was old and it did not work well. It was either too fast or too slow. It spent more time in the repair shop than on his wrist (手腕). So he decided to buy himself a new watch.

      He went into a jewelry shop and said to the saleswoman behind the counter.

      “I want to buy a new watch, please. Show me the best watch you have.”

      The saleswoman smiled happily. This was the kind of customer she liked.

     “Certainly, sir,” she said, and showed Sidney a gold watch.

      “This watch is made of gold and has twenty-four jewels,” she explained.

      “How much is it?” Sidney asked.

      “$5,000,” the saleswoman said.

      “Oh,” Sidney said. “I'm sorry. You did not understand me. I want to see the best watch you have for under $100.”

      The sales woman now lost interest in Sidney. She pushed some cheap watches at him. “Choose one from these,” she said rudely.       “They are all under $100.”

      Sidney picked up one of the watches, “Will it last me a lifetime?” he asked.

     “Of course,” the saleswoman said.

     “Then I'll buy it,” Sidney told her. He paid for the watch and left the shop.

      Two days later the watch stopped. Sidney could not make it work again. He took it back to the shop.

      “This watch is broken,” he said to the saleswoman. “You told me it would last me a lifetime.”

     “When you bought it, sir,” the saleswoman said, “you didn't look very well.”

    "You're just in time, Joe．We're going to play cowboys and Indians, and you can be the Indians," one of my cousins said．

    "How many Indians?" I asked．

    "Oh, about a thousand," he answered, and before I could say no, I was pushed out into the night and became a thousand Indians．Two minutes later I was running in the fields with a group of cowboys behind．The shouts of "After them． Let's catch the killers!" and other such TV play language came into my ears as I ran round a corner and hurried into my Grandpa's car．

    But no one wanted to come to get me．All of my cousins except one were always very friendly with．It was quiet outside．And I went out of the car to have a look．

    Just then I heard a shout, "Bring the rope, and we can burn him．"

    "Only Indians burn people．Cowboys．"I stopped just in time． I had almost said, "Cowboys hang people．"

    I was tied to a tree, and the cowboys were looking for some wood when my dear mother called, "We're leaving now．"

    "Untie me," I shouted．"We're going．"

    "Why did Bobby want matches'?" Mum asked when we were in the car．"He was asking Dad whether he had any．"

    "Oh, he was just going to get matches? MATCHES? Are you sure he wanted matches?"

    Mother was quite sure, and I didn't say any more．

    A long time ago, there was a beautiful lady, She was beautiful and rich, But she always felt unhappy, She then heard that there was a poor but happy family, She wanted to go and visit them.

    She went and found the small room in a small village. When she was about to knock at the door, she heard someone speaking in the room. A little girl said. "Would you like some pork today?" "No. I would like some chicken." another girl answered.

    "They are not too poor" s, the lady said to herself and knocked at the door. when she went into the small room. She saw two young girls sitting at a table. To her surprise, there were only some pieces of thin and dry bread. two cold potatoes and a large bottle of water on the table. The lady asked them what they talked about. They told her that, they just imagined(想象) the poor food becomes many kinds of delicious(美味的) food.

    One girl said. "When you imagine that is a pancake, the bread will be very tasty." another girl said. "If you think bread as ice cream, it will be more sweet."

    When the woman leaves the family, she had a new understanding(理解) of happiness. she found that happiness didn't come from food. clothes, or house, but from people's heart Where is the happiness in our life? It is in our heart.
