For ten weeks, in a great house on the island of St Thomas , Dr John C. Lilly tried to teach a six-year-old dolphin to speak English Margaret Howe, an experiment (试验) helper, would live day and night with Peter, a dolphin. And they would eat, bathe, sleep and play together from Sunday to Friday, with only Saturdays off for Margaret. She lived her life in swimming clothes — with a coat on colder evenings — and cut her hair short so that she could get on with Peter more easily.

      After a few days, Peter was becoming more and more interested in winning her attentions. He threw a ball against her shower towel to get her to play. As time went by, he only wanted to play ball with her and not on his own.

      The problem was that, just at the time Peter and Margaret began to get on well just as two best friends, the experiment ended and the lab was closed. After a few weeks, Margaret received the sad news that Peter had killed himself by refusing to breathe, and sinking to the bottom of his pool.

Dolphins may not speak English — but, just like humans, they know all about broken hearts.

 The day before yesterday, when Peter's family were having dinner, Father raised an interesting question, "Was there anything in our past that we feel ashamed of, guilty about, or regretted? Maybe we can find ways to say sorry, or take some action to right any wrongdoing.”This seemed like a very private matter, but Peter thought about it carefully the whole night.

 Peter remembered an incident from middle school. In his school, there was a worker, Neil Stone, who none of the kids liked. One night, Peter and two of his classmates decided to play a trick on him. They found a can of red paint, and wrote on the school main road in bright red: Neil Stone is a fool! The next day, the whole school saw these words. Within two hours, Neil had Peter and his two classmates in his office. His classmates said that they had done it but Peter lied,denying the truth. No one ever talked about it.

 This morning, Peter went back to his middle school. Neil Stone is still working there. “Sorry, Neil. Do you still remember what happened ten years ago? I want you to know that I did it.”"I knew it!" Neil laughed. They had a good laugh and a lively discussion. Neil's closing words were: “Peter, I always felt bad for you because your classmates got it off their mind, and I knew you were carrying it around all these years. I want to thank you for visiting me… for your sake.”

 Peter knows that no matter how difficult the situation is, it is never too late to clear up the past and make a fresh start.

    Thomas is an office clerk. Every day he is busy with his work. After a day's work he is often very tired. His wife, Katherine, has no job, so she stays at home to cook the meals. Every day he can have his dinner when he gets home from office.

    One day, Thomas came home very late because he was very busy with an important paper. He was very hungry when he got home. When he found dinner was not ready he was very angry with his wife. He shouted at her, “I'm going to have dinner in a restaurant.” “Wait for five minutes,” said his wife. “Why? Do you think that dinner will be ready in five minutes?” asked Thomas.

    "Of course not,” she answered. “But I can be ready to go with you in five minutes.”

    Li Ping is going to England. He wants to know something about English people. One day he sees an English girl in the street. Then he comes up to her.

    “Excuse me, may I ask you some questions?”

    “Of course you may.” answers the girl politely.

    “I'll go to London. What should I notice when I'm talking with English people in London? ”asks Li Ping.

    “Well, don't ask a woman how old she is and…”

    “But how old are you? ”Li Ping stops the girl and asks suddenly.

    “I…”The girl gets angry.

    “Why do you get so angry?”asks Li Ping. “Now we are in China, not in England, you see”

    An old man went to live with his son, his daughter-in-law, and a four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled(颤抖)，his eyesight was very poor, and he couldn't walk steadily(平稳地).The family ate together nightly at the dinner table.  But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating rather difficult. Rice often dropped on the floor.

    The son and the daughter-in-law became angry with the old man，so they put a small table in the corner. There，the grandfather ate alone, while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner at the table. Since the grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was put in a wooden bowl.

    The four-year-old son watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with a piece of wood on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" The boy answered, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up." The four-year-old son smiled and went back to work. The words struck the parents so that they were in silence. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the man took his father's hand and gently led him back to the family table.
