In 1940, four teenage boys and their dog were walking through woodland close to Lascaux, when their dog suddenly disappeared. The boys searched all around. They came to a cave and looked into the cave{#blank#}1{#/blank#} could see nothing.

    A few days later, the boys returned to the cave. They could hardly believe {#blank#}2{#/blank#}eyes. In the weak lamplight, the boys saw red horses and cows, and black bulls and deer charging across the walls of the cave, which looked so {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(frighten) that the boys jumped back in fear. Little did the boys know that they had made one of the most important{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(discover) of that century.

    The Famous Lascaux Caves consist of a large hole and{#blank#}5{#/blank#} series of connecting caves, with a natural water system. The paintings there were an especially important find because they are so numerous and so well preserved. After a few years, the caves were opened{#blank#}6{#/blank#} a tourist attraction, and 1,200 people per day came to the site{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(admire) the paintings{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (fortunate), many visitors resulted in changes in the cave's atmosphere, and green algae (水藻) began to grow around the walls. Since then, the caves {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(close) to the public in an effort to conserve the fragile paintings in this precious underground site.

    Today, the caves have computer-controlled air-conditioning and are inspected daily. Scientists hope that these precautions will prevent any{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(far) damage to the paintings.

Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation

    BEIJING,  May 14 (Xinhua)—Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday said, “The Belt and Road Initiative (倡议) {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) a project of the century that will benefit people across the world. ”

    Xi made the remarks when {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(deliver) a speech at the opening ceremony of the two-day Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Named after the historic Silk Road, the Belt and Road Initiative {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(propose) by Xi in 2013 to chart out new fields for international cooperation.

    “Going through thousands of miles and years, the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(anciently) silk routes embody (体现) the spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness (包容), mutual learning {#blank#}5{#/blank#} mutual benefit, ” Xi told an audience of more than 1, 500 from across the globe. “The Silk Road spirit  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(become) a great heritage (遗产) of human civilization so far, ” he said.

    A total of 29 foreign {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(head) of state and government leaders attended the forum,  including Russian President Vladimir Putin. Other delegates (代表) include officials,  entrepreneurs,  financiers and journalists {#blank#}8{#/blank#} over 130 countries and representatives of key international organizations. The United States sent a delegation {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(lead) by Matt Pottinger.

    By all means, the forum, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} also features a round-table summit of global leaders on Monday, is one of the premium gatherings in today's world.

    The UN is an international organization which is made up of countries that want to promote world peace. Now I'm a Goodwill Ambassador for {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(they). My job with the UN is voluntary and I visit countries {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the UN has programmes to help people. When I visit these countries, I'm followed by the television and press and my visits {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (record), which will help people know better about the work of the UN.

    Recently, I traveled to South Africa because of my work with the UN. There I met some {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (woman) who have organized themselves into a group. They collect about 1.35 yuan per day {#blank#}5{#/blank#} each member and add it to some money {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(contribute) by the government. With the money, they can afford 3 {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(acquire) materials and make baskets to sell at the market. If they are lucky enough, their group will become {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(large) and maybe set up a shop.

    Such programmes can change people's lives. There are a lot of other worthwhile programmes like this under {#blank#}9{#/blank#} umbrella of the UN that have helped millions of people worldwide.

Chinese was formally announced an official language of the United Nations World Tourism Organization on January 25.

That means the organization will use the Chinese language, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} will enhance China's soft power in global tourism and, by extension, the cultural domain. It will help China's tourism growth, encouraging other countries {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(adopt) its policies. Tourist places in Chi too will get more exposure. The number of people learning Chinese will {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (definite) grow.

Second. the year-on-year growth in the number of Chinese tourists before 2020 too has played a part in promoting the Chinese language and culture. Globally. Chinese faces have become common at scenic spots. That has a lot to do {#blank#}9{#/blank#}China's improving economy and the constantly rising per capital income(人均收入).

With China's growing comprehensive capabilities, it {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(hope) that its influence in other soft power domains will also grow.
