In my living room, there is aplaque that advises me to “bloom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}youare planted”. It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program. Thejob {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(responsible) requiredoccasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothystands out in my memory as on one {#blank#}3{#/blank#}bloomed in her remote area.

       Dorothy taught in a remote school nearHarlan. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wind) around the mountain. In theeight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving thepossibility of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(catch) by thesame train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive throughmountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the smallshabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hope).

        From the moment of my arrival at thelittle school, all my gloom disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy's classroom,I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(prepare) to show me their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(late) projects. Dorothy told me witha smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread they madethemselves for dinner.

        Lonely {#blank#}9{#/blank#}she was far away from the moderncivilization and convenience, she never ran out of reports of excitingactivities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooleddown. She passed all the tests {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(excellent)and I found that Dorothy was really blooming where life had planted her.

     On many campuses, it has become a trend for a host of students to participate in various {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(activity). Involved in some positive ones, students find them quite {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(benefit) and rewarding.

     A case in point is the English club {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the activity of learning benefits me most. In contemporary world, English learning has gained great popularity and it is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}great importance for students to learn English well. However, I {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(meet) a variety of difficulties in study so far. For instance, I have trouble {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(memorize) words. Sometimes, it is also difficult for me to understand the rules of grammar. Although I can read and write, I cannot express myself freely in English.

     Then, how to get a good command of his language for me? I{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(convince) that practice makes perfect and that joining the English club is worthwhile. In the English club, daily practice enables me {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(speak) and write fluently. It is also through constant practice {#blank#}9{#/blank#} I can master the rules of grammar and remember words. I will bear in mind that {#blank#}10{#/blank#} I try my best to practice every day, the future of my English learning will be promising.

    Yuan Longping was born in 1930.Since he graduated from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953, he{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(devote)his life to finding ways{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(grow)more and more rice. As a young man, he saw the great need for increasing the rice output. At that time{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(hungry)was a serious problem in many parts of the countryside. Yuan searched {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a way to increase rice harvests without {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(expand) the areas of the fields. In 1950, Chinese farmers could produce about 56 million tons of rice. Using his hybrid rice, farmers are producing harvests twice as large as before.

    In today's world many people seem to be {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (hunger) for money. Money does have its most useful effects on the poor. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} even if a person has already got plenty of money, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (happy) can't be bought by money.

    If money were beginning, all millionaires {#blank#}4{#/blank#} have real love, true friendship, good health and a long life. However, this is not always correct.

    Since {#blank#}5{#/blank#} beginning of time no three words have ever invited more {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (pleased) than "I love you". But can love be bought? I'm afraid not Love {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (mean) to give, not to take. To every person, health and a long life are bought with money? The answer is "No".

    Of all the longest {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (life) people in the world, few of them are millionaires. True friendship can't be bought, either in a world, where money is {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (dream) too much, it can cause brothers to quarrel, marriage to end, lovers to hate, and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (strange) to fight. No matter how much money you have, it is still not enough to make a happy person if you have no one to laugh with, no one to cry for.
