Some time ago, a friend of mine who worked in a part of the city I didn't know very well, invited me to call on him. It took me hours {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (get) there and I took great trouble finding a proper place to park my car. As I was already half an hour late, I parked my car quickly on a non-parking place. At noon, just as I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (leave) my friend's office suddenly I had no idea {#blank#}3{#/blank#} I had parked my car. I could hardly go up to a policeman and tell him that I had lost a small green car somewhere! I had to walk down street after street and examined each car {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (close). I was very happy to see a small green car just behind an old car. But how {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (disappoint) I was to discover that though the car was exactly {#blank#}6{#/blank#} my own, it belonged to someone else! I was very tired and went off for lunch. About half an hour later, I left the restaurant,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} was nearby, and walked down the street. Turning the corner, I nearly jumped for joy: my car was right in front of me. But soon I felt down because a ticket {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(attach) to my car.

    To tell the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (true), driving in crowded cities is far from being a pleasure. So walking or cycling{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (be) a good choice.

    A good teacher is many things to many people. In my own experience, the people I respect most are the teachers {#blank#}1{#/blank#} demanded the most discipline from their students.

    I miss one teacher in particular that I had in high school. I think she was a good teacher because she was a very strict person. I remember very {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (clear) a sign over her classroom door. It was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} simple sign that said, “Laboratory-in this room the first five letters of the word was emphasized, not the last seven.” In other words, I guess, labor {#blank#}4{#/blank#} her was more important than oratory which means {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (make) speeches.

    She prepared her work very carefully and demanded us to do the same. We got lots of homework from her.{#blank#}6{#/blank#} she had broken her arm, and everybody in the class thought that maybe the homework {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (reduce), but it continued just the same. She checked our work stamping her name at the bottom of the papers to show that she had read {#blank#}8{#/blank#}.

    I think sometimes teachers who demand most are liked {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. But {#blank#}10{#/blank#} time goes by this discipline really seems to benefit the students.

    Last weekend our school held a sports meeting. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (realize) it was our last high school sports meeting, we decided to make it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} unforgettable experience for all of us.

    We first attended the opening parade, for {#blank#}3{#/blank#} our class had made a lot of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(prepare).

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#} our excitement, our parade performance was a great success. After the parade, the games started. My classmates attended {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (vary) events such as running, high jump and long jump. Due to the hard training they {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (do) before, their performances were very {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (impress).

    My classmates applauded and cheered for the athletes, some raising their cameras to capture the exciting moments. Finally, the result {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (announce). {#blank#}10{#/blank#} was amazing that our class won the second place. Our efforts paid off! Cup in hand, we took a picture together. I believe this sports meeting will remain a precious memory for all of us as time goes by.

Three bird species went extinct this year, two of {#blank#}3{#/blank#}are songbirds from northeastern Brazil. Beyond birds, other animals such as the vaquita and the northern white rhino {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (be)near the end. We are currently experiencing the worst species die—offs since the {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (lose)of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

    Although extinction is a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (nature)phenomenon, it occurs at a rate of about one to five species per year. Scientists estimate we're now losing species at 1,000 to 10,000 times the rate. In the past 500 years, about 1,000 species {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (go)extinct.
