阅读理解

    People read books less often in these days. With the invention of radio, television and most recently, the Internet and computer games, it seems that reading books is no longer a popular activity. However, I believe that books are an important part of our lives.

    Books offer an outstanding wealth of learning and at a cheaper price than taking a course.

    Books can make people cleverer, because heavy readers have greater knowledge of how things work and who or what people were.

    Everything in today's society requires reading. Imagine trying to do something as simple as reading the directions on a medicine bottle without good reading skills. Someone could not understand them and become very sick or even die.

    Even something as simple as walking or driving through the city could become very dangerous without enough reading. Sometimes, you must be able to understand what is written and explain the meaning of them;

    Some people say that reading is a waste of time and we can do better things with our time.

    Even if we don't read books, we still read every day, and reading books can strengthen (加强)our abilities. Reading is one of the greatest things we can do in our spare time.

    With a book, you can travel anywhere you want, do anything you want, and talk to anyone you want. Reading is very important in our lives, no matter how old you are. So I think people should read books

 阅读理解

Ten years ago, I took up studying luck. I wanted to know why some people are always in the right place at the right time, while others always experience ill luck. Many people volunteered for my research. Over the years I interviewed them, watched their lives and had them take part in my experiments(实验).

I carried out a simple experiment to discover why there were differences in their ability to find lucky chances. I gave both lucky and unlucky people a newspaper and asked them to look through it and tell me how many photographs were inside. I had secretly placed a large message halfway through the newspaper saying, "Tell the researcher you have seen this and win $50." This message took up half of the page and was more than two inches(英尺) high. It was looking at everyone straight in the face, but unlucky people tended to(倾向于) miss it and lucky people tended to notice it.

Unlucky people are just more nervous than lucky people. They are busy looking only for what they need and this stops them from noticing the unexpected. As a result, they miss out on chances. Lucky people tend to be more relaxed and open. They can see everything that is in front of them, rather than just what they are looking for.

My research shows that lucky people live by several principles(原则). Here are some of these principles:

* Listen to your gut instincts(直觉) — they are often right.

* Be open to new experiences and break your normal thought patterns.

* Spend a few moments each day remembering things that went well.

* See yourself being lucky before an important meeting or phone call.

阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从11~20各题所给的A、B、C和D项中选出最佳选项。

Do you have trouble remembering things? Do you want to know how to improve your1 ? Human brain is very small and . 2 . It is only 2% of our total body weight, but it needs about 20% of the oxygen that the body takes in. We can think 3 if our brains get enough oxygen. So we should always make sure there's enough oxygen in the air when we need to remember something. Besides, what else can we do to improve our memory? Here are some 4 .

First, try to get enough 5 . Our memory works well after we have a good rest. If we want to remember something, make sure we have enough sleep every day.

Second, if we have to remember something big, break it down into small parts. It's6 to remember 198756430387 if we break it into four small parts: 198-756-430-387.

Third, don't get angry if we are not able to remember some information. Just do something to 7 ourselves like listening to music, watching a movie and so on. Later, we can try again.

Last but not least, make up an interesting story. If we want to remember a shopping list with bread, fruits, a coat, oil and a notebook, just make up a story with them. For example, Lisa felt hungry and 8 some bread. She opened the fridge, but only found some fruits. So she put on her coat and planned to go to the supermarket. Unluckily, she tripped over(被绊倒)a bottle of 9 and found her lost notebook under the sofa …

If we follow the advice, we will 10 how good our memory is. So let's try to improve our memory together!

 请先阅读下面短文, 掌握其大意, 然后从下面方框的七个选项中选择五个还原到文章中, 使短文意思通顺、结构完整,

What should mobile phone buttons(按键) look like? What are Shakespeare's artistic achievements? {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

As new technologies continue to develop, many students are choosing to study STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math) so they can get good jobs later. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}They need ideas from artists, historians and sociologists(社会学家)— in other words, people who major in liberal arts(主修文科).

Learning how to program is not enough. The US writer Scott Hartley mentioned it in his book. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} He points out that soft skills, including communication, collaboration(合作) and understandings of social problems, are of equal importance.

One possible solution is to put liberal arts and STEM studies together. In fact, Lewis University in the US has started to offer a set of courses called " CS + X".{#blank#}4{#/blank#} At the University of Vermont, a program called Engineering Management connects engineering with business. Engineers need to understand markets while business people need to learn engineering.

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}Only when we know this, can we create the greatest technology with humanity.

A. Perhaps liberal arts and science should never be separated.

B. Students had better study both STEM subjects and liberal arts majors.

C. If a driverless car is forced to run into someone, should it have a choice?

D. But questions like the ones above are hard for STEM students to answer.

E. Some students prefer STEM subjects while others prefer liberal arts majors.

F. He argues against the idea that liberal arts are no longer useful in today's world.

G. These courses connect computer science with a liberal arts major.
