Everybody knows that the United Kingdom consists {#blank#}1{#/blank#} four countries: English, Scotland, Wales plus Northern Ireland. However, about four hundred years ago Scotland tried to break away from English {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(influent). The Scots wanted to attack England and {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(decide) that France should take the place of England {#blank#}4{#/blank#} their closest friend. England,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} was unhappy when the relationship between the two countries broke down. Queen Elizabeth I did not want to be left out of any decisions {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(do) with Scotland, so she divided the Scottish lords into several groups so that they would argue with each other instead of {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(attack) England. This {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(arrange) worked well until 1603 {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Queen Elizabeth died. As King James of Scotland was her only relative, he became King of Scotland and England, and everybody was {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(delight) with the solution.

    There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(quick). So he sent them each to go and look at a pear tree that was far{#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    If you give up when it's winter, you{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(miss)the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer and the fruit of your fall.

    As people often say, ＂No one knows the value of health{#blank#}1{#/blank#}he loses it.＂ In other words (换句话说), nothing is more important {#blank#}2{#/blank#}health. Good health is beneficial{#blank#}3{#/blank#}your work and study. But how to keep healthy? Here I want to give you some advice.

    First, you should go to bed early and get up early.     Chinese Kung fu is a{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(tradition) Chinese culture. It is probably one of the earliest sports that use both{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(strong) and brain.

    The theory of kung fu is based{#blank#}3{#/blank#}classical Chinese philosophy. Over its long history it has developed as a unique combination of exercise, practical self-defense, self-discipline, and art. It can date back to ancient times{#blank#}4{#/blank#}people used sticks to fight against wild animals and they gradually{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(gain) experience in self-defense.

    Chinese kung fu is a large system of theory and practice,{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(combine) techniques of self-defense and health-keeping. In sports like track and field and boxing, an athlete{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(usual) has to retire from full participation in his 30s. That is because{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(injury) suffered during years of active sport participation at a young age affect our ability to continue exercising in later life. In Chinese kung fu, however, a difference{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(make) between "external"(外部的) and "internal"(内部的) kung fu. It's said that in external kung fu, you exercise your muscles, bones and skin while in internal kung fu, you train your spirit, qi and mind. So the external body weakens later in life, but on{#blank#}10{#/blank#}contrary, internal kung fu continues.

    Researchers examined the benefits of singing among people with mental health conditions {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (include) anxiety and depression.

    They found people who took part in a community singing group improved their mental health and that the combination of singing and socializing was an important part of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (recover).

    The grassroots action runs weekly singing workshops for the people {#blank#}3{#/blank#} mental health conditions as well as the general public. It {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (original) began at a hospital in 2005, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} afterwards moved into the community. Around 120 people now attend four free workshops each week across Norfolk, two thirds of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} have had contact with mental health services.

    The research project followed the group for six months and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (undertake) interviews and focus groups with participants, organizers, and workshop {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (leader).

    The report shows how singing and socializing gave participants {#blank#}9{#/blank#} feeling of belonging and wellbeing that often lasted a day or {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (many), as well as improved social skills and confidence.

    When Mr. Wang, a Chinese calligraphy(书法)master and painter, invited me to his studio, I got extremely{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (delight) . What a treat!

    His apartment doubles as his studio, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he creates calligraphy works and paintings as well. The living room has a long desk with a collection of{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (brush) of varying sizes, two big ink pots and a pair of paper weights.

    Mr. Wang showed his latest work, a scroll(卷轴)of the Great Wall at Badaling {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (wind) its way along the steep hills, which {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (recognize) as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1987. The beauty of the seven-meter-long scroll painting was beyond {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (describe).

    He told me someone had offered a large amount of money for the painting, but he refused {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(part) with it as he wanted to donate to the National Museum.

After that, Mr. Wang invited me to practice calligraphy, and it was the first time that I had {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(true) experienced the beauty of the line. It was then{#blank#}9{#/blank#} I noticed Mr. Wang appeared to have a healthy body. I wondered if practicing calligraphy kept him so fit. Whether that is true, one thing is certain; as Mr. Wang put{#blank#}10{#/blank#}, "Only do one thing and do it well—that's the secret to success"
