December 16, 2009 was the worst day of my mother's life. It was on that day that she was told her thirty-six-year-old daughter had developed breast cancer. I would never forget her hopeless expression and tear-filled eyes as I told her. That scene uncontrollably broke my heart. It was one of the few times in my life that I had seen my mother was so painful and weak.

Since I got breast cancer, the doctors had made a heavy-duty plan to fight with it, which would mean an operation on my breast, five months of chemotherapy (化疗), and five weeks of radiation therapy. It also meant that an independent single girl who lived alone was in serious need of some help and care.

Thankfully, I was blessed with my own army of family, friends and co-workers who had offered to help me out with whatever I might need, including meals and rides to doctors' appointments. But as grateful as I was, there really was only one person who I wanted by my side — my mom. Despite living 300 miles away, my mother agreed even without a second thought. She was going to be my primary caregiver, driver, personal cook, nurse, counselor, and shoulder to cry on. No one else in the world could fill her shoes. It was a job that only she could do.

The night after my first chemotherapy treatment was firmly fixed in my memory. I was never so sick in my entire life. I couldn't even keep down a glass of water. And after hours spent in the bathroom, I weakly lifted myself into bed, weeping, "Please, God, take this away from me. Please make me fed better." At that moment, my mother crawled into bed with me and wrapped her entire body around me. It looked as if l had still been a little girl.

Paragraph 1:

Over the next six months, my mom traveled between two homes just to take care of me.

Paragraph 2:

However, when I finally began to recover, my morn suddenly fell ill.

举一反三
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

One pleasant New Year morning, Edward got up and dressed himself in a hurry. He wanted to be the first to wish everyone a happy New Year. He went into every room, and shouted the words of welcome. Then he ran into the street to repeat them to those he met. When he came back, his father gave him two bright, new silver dollars. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some nice books that he had seen at the bookstore.

As he ran down the street with a light heart to the bookshop, he saw a poor German family—the father, mother, and three children shivering(发抖) in the cold wind.

"I wish you a happy New Year," said Edward, as he was happily passing by. The man shook his head. "You do not belong to this country?" asked Edward. The man again shook his head, for he could not understand or speak English. But he pointed to his mouth, and to the children, as if to say, "These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time." Edward quickly understood that these people were poor and in a very difficult situation and required some help. He took out his dollars, and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife.

How their eyes sparkled (闪耀)with gratitude! They said something in their language, which doubtlessly meant, "We thank you a thousand times, and will remember you forever."

When Edward came home, his father asked what books he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. "I have bought no books," said he, "I gave my money to some poor people, who seemed to be very hungry."

One weekend when I was about six years old, my family and I went to Disneyland and had a wonderful day full of excitement. I didn't know that the real excitement didn't begin until that night.

While we were watching the fireworks, I started to get an urge to go to the bathroom, but I didn't want to miss the show. I overheard a conversation between my sister Isabel and my mother, and I approached them to hear what they were saying.

"Mom, I'm going to the bathroom with Lizette, okay?" said Isabel.

"Okay," my mom replied, "but stay together. I don't want any of you to get lost."

The second I saw my sisters leaving, I didn't think twice before running after them — without telling my parents. As I followed them through the huge crowd of people, I started to lose sight of them. I began to panic as I scanned the crowd for them. Crazy thoughts ran through my head like "What if I never see my family again?"

I gave up trying to find my sisters and tried to get back to my family, but I was completely mixed up. After searching for what seemed like forever, I couldn't hold back my tears, and I started crying like I had never cried before.

"Mommy!" I cried out. But everyone around me was too caught up by the fireworks to pay any attention to me.

I tried to stop the scary thoughts that were going through my head and started running as fast as I could ... anywhere ... every where. I was going crazy. "I'm only six, and I've gotten lost. What have I done? How could I have been so dumb to run off without telling anyone?" I thought.

With my face wet from tears, I kept running, pulling at people's pants and crying, "Mommy!" I was hoping that one of these adults would be one of my parents.
