The giant panda {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (love) by people throughout the world. Chinese scientists{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (recent) had a chance to study a wild female panda with a newborn baby. She was a very {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (care) mother. For 25 days, she never left her baby, not even to find something {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (eat)! She would not let any other pandas come near. She licked the baby constantly to keep it clean. Any smell might attract dangerous {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (animal) that would try to eat the little comforting pats. The mother held the baby in her front paws much the way a human does.  {#blank#}6{#/blank#} it cried, she rocked it back and forth and gave it little comforting pats. The mother continued to care for the young panda {#blank#}7{#/blank#} more than two years. By that time, the panda no longer needed {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (it) mother for food. However, it stayed with her and learned about the ways of the forest. Then, after two and a half years, the mother {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (drive) the young panda away . It was time for her to have a new baby, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} it was also time for the young panda to be independent.

    I got laid off at 53 from a senior management position in a restaurant. And I knew it was going to be hard to find another job in the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (competition) working market. My age put me at {#blank#}2{#/blank#} disadvantage.     On October 23, 2018，President Xi Jinping announced the opening of  the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) at an opening ceremony in Zhuhai, Guangdong province.

    The HZMB, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (locate) at the waters of the Lingdingyang of Pearl River Estuary, is a huge sea crossing, linking Hong Kong and Macao to the Chinese mainland city of Zhuhai. As the world's {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (long) sea-based project, the 55-kilometre bridge is the result of five years of research and another nine years of building. It has been described as one of the “seven {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (wonder) of the modern world” by the Guardian.

    The project{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (make) up of a 22.9-kilometer-long main bridge, a 6.7-kilometer-long tunnel and an artificial island off the bridge. It is designed with {#blank#}5{#/blank#} service life of 120 years. It can withstand a strong wind equal {#blank#}6{#/blank#} a maximum Beaufort scale 16. The bridge's engineers had to consider many environmental factors to protect the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (surround) environment while building the bridge. Chinese white dolphins, an endangered species that lives in the area, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) a particular concern.

    The HZMB will make {#blank#}9{#/blank#} much more convenient to travel between the three areas it connects. It will bring people in Hong Kong, Macao and Guangdong within a “one-hour living circle”, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}is expected to attract more visitors to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It will be a transport link as well as a social, economic, cultural, and tourism connection among the three areas.

    Chinese foods, with a long history, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) known for their special taste and delicacy(精细). Here are several traditional Chinese foods.

    Noodles are a symbol of long life in Chinese culture. They are as much a part as {#blank#}2{#/blank#} birthday cake with its candles {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(light) in western countries. Since noodles mean long life, it is considered very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (lucky) to cut it off.

    In China, a whole fish {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (symbol) richness. At a party, it is a tradition to serve the whole fish. Fish also has a special meaning because the Chinese word for fish, yu, which sounds like the word for richness.     Our world has seen {#blank#}1{#/blank#} increasing number of students pressuring their parents into buying luxuries (奢侈品) just to look good before their peers. Problem is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} is to blame, parents, students or society? Now, some schools have taken action.

    To avoid {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (show) off superiority among wealthy students, Woodchurch High School in northwestern England has recently made an {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (announce) to refuse quality designer coats, including Canada Goose, often worth hundreds of dollars.
