I am not sure how many years ago it was, but I still had a cassette player (盒式磁带放录机) at the time. I had a lot of housework. I was tired of television and was in the mood for music. I pulled out one of my favorite cassettes. It started to play but before long the music stopped. I opened the player and saw the tape in the cassette was all pulled out and twisted (扭曲的). I tried to fix it, but it was already broken beyond repair. I frowned. I didn't want to risk another of my cassettes with a tape-eating machine, but I really wanted some music.

Disagreements have arisen in Northern France after many ancient standing stones were damaged to make way for a new hardware chain(五金连锁店).

About 39 stones, dating back at least 7,000 years, were removed from the site, which sits on one of Europe's most famous prehistoric attractions, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported. "The site has been damaged," local archaeologist Christian Obeltz told AFP.

Carnac, often described as "French Stonehenge"， is famous for its spreading fields of large tall stones. The stones are arranged in long, straight lines and, according to the Carnac Tourist Office, it is the largest collection of this type of standing stone in the world. The two main sites alone, at Menec and Kermarjo, house nearly 3,000 standing monuments covering over 4 miles.

The purpose of this ancient curiosity is still unknown. Many believe it may have had something to do with religion, while others think it could have served as a farming calendar. One idea even suggests that the stones are connected to a sad event that happened to a Roman army.

The Regional Office of Cultural Affairs for Brittany, which is responsible for protecting the cultural monument, made a statement on disagreements over building the store on Wednesday. "Given the uncertain and non-major character of the remains, damage to a site of historical value has not been established," the statement said. However, Obeltz mentioned that there hasn't been enough research in the area to decide whether the stones were historically important.

News of building the store has caused a storm of angry comments on social media, with many expressing their thoughts on the loss of the ancient stones. "Poor Carnac! The commodification(商品化) of the world prepares the man without memories," said Philippe de Villiers, France's former Secretary of State for Culture.

I was never a fast runner and thus I always didn't like running. Throughout my childhood, whenever we competed in the 50-meter run, the 400-meter, or any other type of race, I would finish in the bottom half. In my late teens, as a member of a baseball team, I was the slowest runner on the team. In the preseason training, I was always the one running by myself at the end.

Therefore, twenty years later, when I entered my first official running race — a 3,000-meter challenge in my city — at age 38, I certainly didn't expect to win or come close to winning.

I was there because my college friend Jim Hosek was the director of the race, and he asked me to run. The race was aimed at raising money for the unfortunate patients in a hospital and encouraging the patients and their families to be brave, determined, and confident with sportsmanship.

It was a heartwarming program.I wanted to support it, so I showed up, paid the entrance fee, had a number pinned (把……别住) on my back, and moved over to the starting line. There, I waited with about 300 other runners for the race to begin. I was nervous. Would I be the last one to finish a race again? Could I even finish the race? I wondered.

Before long, someone spoke into a microphone, "Anyone weighing over 200 pounds comes down to the scale (秤), please." Knowing I was over 200 pounds, I walked down to the scale. A man told me to stand on it. "Two hundred and three pounds," he said. Then he wrote down the race number that was on my back. Out of curiosity, I asked him why he did so,and then I was told there would be an award ceremony (仪式) after the race. One award was for the first finisher in the over 200-pound group, and this special award would be announced at the end of the ceremony.

Not expecting the award, I ran towards the starting line, never realizing there were only two runners weighing over 200 pounds.
