In my living room, there is aplaque that advises me to “bloom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}youare planted”. It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program. Thejob {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(responsible) requiredoccasional visits to the classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothystands out in my memory as on one {#blank#}3{#/blank#}bloomed in her remote area.

       Dorothy taught in a remote school nearHarlan. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(wind) around the mountain. In theeight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving thepossibility of {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(catch) by thesame train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive throughmountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the smallshabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(hope).

        From the moment of my arrival at thelittle school, all my gloom disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy's classroom,I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(prepare) to show me their {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(late) projects. Dorothy told me witha smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread they madethemselves for dinner.

        Lonely {#blank#}9{#/blank#}she was far away from the moderncivilization and convenience, she never ran out of reports of excitingactivities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooleddown. She passed all the tests {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(excellent)and I found that Dorothy was really blooming where life had planted her.

    Jonny: Hey! I'm just practicing Tai Chi(太极).Would you like to join me?

    Peter: I know nothing about it. Is it difficult?

    Jonny: It seems easy, but you need a lot of practice. You just follow me like this.

    Peter: OK. Don't laugh {#blank#}1{#/blank#}me. I may look funny.

    Jonny: Bend your knees slightly and reach out your arms like tree branches, naturally and {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(soft). Try to keep your body straight. Move slowly , then be sure to keep your balance and don't let your body shake.

    Peter: I cannot control my body well. My legs become{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(pain)

    Jonny: Keep{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(hold) your position for a while .It helps develop your strength and flexibility .Raise your leg and let {#blank#}5{#/blank#}stay in the air for seconds.

    Peter: I feel my legs shaking . I cannot do this any longer.

    Jonny: Be patient! Tai Chi{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(call)“shadow boxing" in English. It asks you to act like water: to be flexible as well{#blank#}7{#/blank#} strong. In real competition, a Tai Chi master borrows the strength of the competitor and uses this energy to fight back. The{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (hard) you try to beat him, the more likely you will get hit. He controls you!

    Peter: Unbelievable! Oh...,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}you don't mind, I'll stop and take a deep{#blank#}10{#/blank#}.

    I recently became friends with a young man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} had just migrated to Australia to escape war in his homeland. He was unskilled and was finding life difficult as he was unemployed. I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (work) for a company in Australia for more than ten years before I found a better job. I knew that the manager would be disappointed when I was leaving.

    The manager asked me to introduce someone who I thought could do the job just as well as me, so I took this opportunity {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (arrange) an interview for my new friend. However, in the end, he was not offered the job after the interview.

    Later, I asked the manager why my friend was turned {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. The manager thought that his English was not good enough for the position, but I suggested that my friend should be a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (suit) choice for the company since I could train him. I believed that once {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (give) the time to learn, he could do the job. After a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (week) training, he was employed and was happy with his position.

    I knew how the terrible war had forced him to leave his homeland and {#blank#}8{#/blank#} price he had paid for doing so. I appreciate {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) able to live in Australia and believe that this {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (appreciate) is best proved by offering acts of kindness to people in need of help.

    A recently survey shows{#blank#}1{#/blank#}the students of our school like to do in their spare time. Much to my{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(surprising), more than half of the students like doing sports,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} only eight percent students prefer{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(read). It seems even worse that about 36 percent students would like{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(surf) the Internet. There are also a few students{#blank#}6{#/blank#}think that playing musical instruments is wonderful according to the chart.

    In my opinion  teenagers should do more{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(exercise) and reading because it is our duty to study better for our future. We know that surfing the Internet can give us information that we need, but many students can't control{#blank#}8{#/blank#}and spend too much time surfing the Internet. So we can say it will do harm{#blank#}9{#/blank#}them if the students are crazy about it. The best way to solve the problem is to make students form their own good hobbies.{#blank#}10{#/blank#}in this way can the students enjoy their study and life.

Color blindness is very common. It affects{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (rough) 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women in the world. People {#blank#}2{#/blank#} blindness can't see colors in a normal way.

There are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(variety) causes of color blindness. For the majority of color-blind people, color blindness is genetic, although some people become color-blind as a result of other diseases, such as diabetes(糖尿病), or they have {#blank#}4{#/blank#} condition over time due to the aging process, etc.

Most color-blind people can see {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (thing) as clearly as other people, but they are unable to fully "'see" red, green or blue light. There are different types of color blindness but there are extremely rare cases {#blank#}6{#/blank#} people are unable to see any color at all. The most common color blindness is red/ green color blindness. Although {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(know) as red/green color blindness, it doesn't mean {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(suffer) will only mix up red and green. It means they mix up all colors that have some red or green as part of the whole color.

The effects of color blindness can {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (classify) into mild，moderate(中等的) or severe. About 40% of color-blind people are even unaware that they're color-blind. Statistically speaking, most people {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (have) a moderate form of red/ green color blindness can only identify 5 colored pencils from a standard box of 24 pencil crayons.
