Recently I understood the true meaning of love. The 1 was Kane, my neighbor Joline's two-year-old son.

Kane was born with a physical problem on his 2. And I witnessed (目睹) the 3 that Kane's physical shortcomings had on his family. I also saw a 4 family that embraced (拥抱) this special child. A family that wouldn't allow Kane to know he was 5. Joline had constructed a small cart for his son to6 . Kane used his hands to move about, and the cart 7 him to "go to" any place just as everyone else was able to do. Kane was not just a member of the family, but the 8 of the family.

    With a wide smile, it was easy to see that even at the age of two, Kane liked to 9 with people very much. With wisdom of an individual (个人), this boy even 10 the most complex of human emotions. Later I came to  11 that this child was sent to help some of us who weren't just getting what love was all about.

    Kane demanded attention, 12  not because of his mobility (移动能力) challenges or other apparent shortcomings. In his mind, he had no13 or shortcomings. The 14  was that he received attention because he was alive and real and had so much to offer.

    Kane 15  me in a deep way. His ability to refuse to be different has 16 me. Kane was and is 17 a boy of powerful energy to me. From him and his family I learnt the 18 : love surpasses (超越) all things. I can only imagine that as the parent of a child like Kane one might be filled with19  . But I believe that having a child like Kane is actually a(n)20  . The parents of such special babies are angels too,just as the babies are.

    Recently, my family and I visited Kaikoura, a coastal town in New Zealand. The first evening it seemed a1 place, but the next day I remembered what I'd 2about it in a magazine. It was often 3 to see dolphins (海豚) and whales there!

    My family and I 4  on a grey, windy morning on a small boat. 5, the sky turned blue ten minutes later. Soon we  6 the place where we were supposed to go swimming. To my 7, this was more than 40 km from land. I was quite 8by this time, and wondered why we came all the way out there, when 9someone shouted “Dolphins!”

    All I could 10were fins (鱼鳍) everywhere — there were about one hundred dolphins, all 11towards our boat! Many of them were jumping around in the water12they were asking us to come and play. I 13my snorkel (潜水通气管) and jumped into the sea. Then I tried to make 14in the water to attract them. What made me 15was that they heard me and came to swim around me. Amazingly, a dolphin kept following me, but then changed his 16and swam in another direction. It really made me realize how 17these animals are.

    About an hour later, it was time for us to get back onto the 18. I really enjoyed myself, but I was a little cold and 19 to leave the water. I noticed that everyone on board was smiling and I realized what a very20moment we'd had.

    Peter and Paul had got permission(允许) from their parents to camp in a field close to their farm. But, being adventurous boys, they know it would be more 1to camp in the forest that lay beyond the river. Excitedly, the boys 2 with their tent and food.

    Carrying their heavy 3, the two brothers walked along the riverbank, hardly noticing the distance or the sun beating down. They were eager to reach their 4 before lunchtime. As they entered the cool, shadowy forest, they began to search for a suitable camping place. Peter wanted to 5 close to the river at the edge of the forest, 6 Paul, who was older, insisted that they camp further away. 7, Peter followed his brother deeper into the 8. “This really is a wonderful setting!” said Paul in excitement. They 9their tent, and settled down to eat the sandwiches they had made, then decided to find their way 10 to the river to catch some fish.

    “Are you sure that this is the right 11?” whispered Peter shakily. “I'm sure we passed that hollow tree just a while ago.” Paul walked12 silently. “Look, there it is again. We're lost, aren't we?” complained Peter. Paul had to admit that he didn't know where they were. 13, they were a long distance from where they were 14 to be. They were not even 15 of where they had set up their camp. They sat in 16for a few minutes until Peter had a bright idea. “Why don't we look for clues（线索） the way trackers 17 in the movies? We weren't careful about how we walked, so I'm sure we would have left18 some broken tree branches and leaves. ”

    Carefully, the boys 19the marks that they had left, until finally they found their campsite. Hurriedly, they packed their belongings and set off 20 the direction of the river.

What would their parents think of their adventure（冒险）?

    Jay Ruckelshaus won a full scholarship to Duke University. Then, just weeks before he was 1 to arrive on campus, he broke his neck in an accident.

    At the Shepherd Center, Jay had eight hours of exercise a day,2 his muscles and working on his 3. “Before, was 4 setting goals and achieving them. But this was not what you could achieve.”

    Also, he thought of other wheelchair users and decided to help them. “I 17I was having an amazing time and meeting amazing people,” he said. The feeling was almost 18. Therefore, he started a charity called Ramp Less Traveled to spread the 19 that college is 20 for students with spinal cord (脊髓) injuries.

    I was afraid to fly alone, but Dad put me on board anyway and a steward was keeping an eye on me through the flight.

    As we broke through the clouds, I could see lights below and knew we were getting close to the 2. When we came to the runway(跑道),however, I realized we were going too  3! I turned and looked back: no one seemed to be acting 4—it seemed to be fine. The lights were gone when suddenly someone shouted, "Look, the runway's 5 !"

    I looked up ahead and saw a busy road. There were lots of 6 that must have seen us became some of them 7 their cars. We crossed the road, and I felt 8 , not knowing whether we were going to ran over or be hit by the cars! 9 was with us, but not for long.

    We 10 nose down onto some ground. The steward came, "Have to 11 !" I didn't 12 and immediately unfastened my seat belt. Through the window I saw 13 sign. A14 thought crossed my mind that the plane could be sitting on gas tanks and it might 15!

    The exits were opened and crow crew 16 to help get people down out. When I did touch the ground. I wanted to 17, still fearing the explosion. The gas tanks were 18 and the flight attent passed me my cell phone by which I called my grandparents, who were waiting for 19 from me. Although they knew no one was dead, they were still glad I was 20 !

It was my last class before summer break, and I was finishing up the first year of a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in poetry. Unsure if I deserved a 1 in the program, I worried I wasn't as2 as my peers. When the professor asked about our summer 3 , I panicked. I didn't want to appear idle (闲散的)，so without much 4 , I burst out "gardening". Surprisingly, my professor nodded and mentioned Emily Dickinson loved gardening. Emily Dickinson, a great American poet, studied plants as a 5 . But I was in my twenties and had no gardening 6 .

A few days later, I 7 some seedlings in a store. I thought I should get some. At least I could say I had 8 gardening. Wait, was that a jalapeno (墨西哥辣椒)? I 9 it up.

Over the summer, the plant grew, not big but 10 . I was proud. Maybe I didn't have 11 . But then I had to move out of my apartment for some reason. I 12 with my friends. It was December when I found my new apartment, and my jalapeno was suffering: its 13 had fallen off. I set it next to a window by the kitchen sink, and 14 for the best.

I 15 to work hard in school. Then spring came. My plant grew with new leaves. And it flowered when I 16 my graduate paper, a book of 17 , in May.

I was washing dishes one day when my professor called. "Your poems are strong..." he said. I'd done it! I went back to the dishes, but suddenly I found the flowers 18 my jalapeno were gone. Had I done something 19 ?  I looked closer. Where a flower had been, a tiny green fruit 20 through.
