World Read Aloud Day is celebrated each year on the first Wednesday of March. It {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(start) by the LitWorld. Org website in 2010 and has now reached 65 countries, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} aim is to encourage people worldwide who cannot read to enjoy the benefits of a book. The website asks everyone {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (celebrate) the day by taking a book, finding an audience, and reading out aloud. It is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (belong) to all people.

        The website asks visitors to join in the movement to reduce the number of illiterate (不识字的) people in the world. It is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (absolute) necessary to help those who cannot read. The website says, “It's time to start by reading aloud to {#blank#}6{#/blank#} might like it. Share a book with a child who might need it, share a story with someone who would treasure it, listen patiently {#blank#}7{#/blank#} someone else's story as they share with you.” The United Nations says, “Literacy involves a variety of learning in {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (able) individuals to achieve their goals, to develop their knowledge, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to participate fully in society.”  In that way, World Read Aloud Day {#blank#}10{#/blank#} help make a difference.

    John Snow was an expert doctor who attended Queen Victoria {#blank#}1{#/blank#} her personal physician. However, he was well-known for his defeat of “King Cholera”. During the mid-19th century, London suffered a series of cholera outbreaks. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(expose) to the deadly disease, many thousands of {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(terrify) people died every time there was an outbreak. John was determined to help them. He believed the disease {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(absorb) into people's bodies through meals and he needed evidence to prove his idea. In 1854, when there was {#blank#}5{#/blank#} outbreak in London, he was ready to began his enquiry. He gathered the information and marked on a map the exact places {#blank#}6{#/blank#} all the dead people had lived. With the help of the map, he found that in two particular streets, the outbreak was {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(extreme) severe. He did further research and found the polluted water from pump was {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(blame). He immediately told the astonished people not to drink the water. Later, John found supporting evidence from two other deaths linked to the Broad Street outbreak. So, he was able to announce with {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(certain) that cholera was spread by germs. To prevent this from happening again, John Snow suggested that the source of all the water sources {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(examine). Finally, King Cholera was defeated.

    Chinese-American community groups are preparing to hold their second annual International Confucius Cultural Festival（孔子文化节）on Sept, 28 in Flushing Queens, New York City's easternmost borough.

    Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. was born on July 10, 1943 and died on February 6, 1993. He was the first African American player {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (take) part in the international sport of tennis at the highest level of the game.

    Arthur's father was the manager of a large park in Richmond, Virginia. Arthur {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (allow) to play in the park when he was seven years old. He was quite {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (energy). There was a swimming pool and many tennis courts in the park, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Arthur spent a lot of time playing. He did well in sports, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} he had never tried to play tennis.

    Ronald Charity, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} famous tennis player then, noticed Arthur. Mr Charity asked Arthur {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he wanted to learn to play tennis. "I will, Mr Charity," Arthur answered {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (excite). Arthur learned very quickly. At the age of ten, Arthur competed in a tennis game. Many {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (old) and more experienced players came trying to win the prize, but Arthur beat them. He became known {#blank#}10{#/blank#} "the kid who could play tennis"．

    Arthur grew up to be one of the first successful African American tennis players. He played and won all over the world.
