As a father who works outside the home, I recognize that it is easy for me to get caught up in stress at work. Indeed, sometimes it is difficult to turn off my work focus and turn on my family focus so that I can come home and be the loving husband my wife needs and the playful father my kids want. Good fathers provide stability and strength to the family. As fathers, we do not let the pressures and worries of work get in the way of being there for our kids.

1). It doesn't need to be a lot of time, but if you are able, have oneonone time with each of your kids.

2). Be goofy (滑稽的) with your kids. The more voices you do, the more expressive you are when you play with them, the more they will feel your love and your acceptance of them.

3). Spend time reading to them. Allow your kids to choose a book and spend time reading some of it to them before bed. The more effort you put into it ,the more they will feel your love.

As a therapist (临床医学家)  who works with children and their families, I have noticed that the better the relationship that a father has with his child, the more influence that father will have on his child. As fathers work on developing a strong link with their kids through positive interactions, they can have a positive effect on the lives of their children.

A.Fathers have such an important and irreplaceable role in the family.

B.Sometimes books can help you deal with children.

A huge lake of salty water appears to be buried deep in Mars, scientists reported this week. The presence of water raises the chances of finding life on the red planet. The discovery is based on observations by a European spacecraft. It has excited experts. Water is necessary for life, and scientists have long hoped to prove that it is present on Mars.

Cassie Stuurman is a geophysicist at the University of Texas. In 2016, she found evidence of a huge ice deposit(沉积)on Mars. “If these researchers are right, this is the first time we've found evidence of a large water body on Mars. ”Stuurman said. Researchers are not yet sure how deep the area of water is. So, they cannot say whether it is an underground pool, or just an area of soft and wet soil.

In order to find the water, Italian researchers examined radar signals. The signals were collected over three years by the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft. The results suggest that a 20-kilometer-wide water body lies below ice that is 1.5 kilometers thick. They believe the area is close to the planet's southern pole.

Mars is very cold, but salt in the water may have kept it from freezing. It is the same as when you put salt on a road to prevent ice from forming. The water would be extremely cold, right at the point where it's about to freeze. And it would be salty. Such conditions are not ideal for life to form. But, she said there are bacteria on the earth that have been able to survive in similar conditions.

Mars has been a popular planet for exploration, with some groups placing instruments on its surface and others examining it from space. In May, NASA launched another spacecraft, the InSight Mars lander which will dig deep into the data under the surface after it reaches a flat area of the planet in November.

The older we get, the more we learn, the better able we are to know what's right. Right? Not always. Sometimes the aging process can remove completely the natural aspects that keep us curious and give us strength to figure out what to do. As a matter of fact, children of all ages teach us lessons in our own lives.

When a kid says“ That wasn't nice 'or' I don't like your shirt” or “I hate that kind of food!”, it's a natural reaction(反应)to shush the child not to do so, but what they say is true. When children see a wrong being done, they will interrupt to say it's not right. As adults, we usually sit nearby rather than hold a strong opinion or say something that might be unpopular.

Kids cry, stamp( 跺) their feet or yell with excitement while it isn't socially acceptable for an adult. Letting emotions out and then moving on to deal with things, so jump and yell "yippee" when you are happy about something. Have a good cry when being upset. Stamp or throw a pillow when being alone and need to release. Most of life becomes a series of things once you reach a certain age. Finding pleasure and laughing seems out of place or silly when gaining knowledge or skills.

“Why is the sky blue?” “ How much does an elephant weigh?” There are certain things that the Internet can tell you, but what about learning something in the first hand like the science experiment in the kitchen, digging up rocks in the backyard, how high the bicycle's wheels can fly over the gravel( 砂砾)? Don't stop exploring and find new learnings in the real world.

A recent documentary produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has caused a stir in China and in the UK.

The documentary, titled Are Our Kids Tough Enough? focuses on five Chinese teachers who are sent to teach 50 UK teens at a school in Hampshire.

The teachers instruct the students for a month. The pupils are then tested, and the results are compared to the ones of those who have continued in the regular UK education system. The idea is to see if the Chinese method improves academic performance.

The Chinese teachers use their own teaching methods but receive strong resistance from the students. A clip from the documentary online shows some problems, with Chinese teachers calling their students lazy and lacking in discipline, while the students say the high pressure and harsh teachers are driving them crazy.

This has aroused a new debate in both China and the UK, with some arguing the teenagers need more regulation and discipline. Others say Chinese methods encourage rote learning (死记硬背) instead of independent thinking. For instance, Chinese language teachers should do more than pass on knowledge about words and characters. They should inspire students, helping them feel the sentiment from Chinese literature. This is a higher level of teaching.

Yang Dongping, dean of the 21st Century Education Research Institute, says, "The Chinese teaching methods are designed to strictly train the majority. Foreign teaching methods, however, are more natural and relaxing, and designed to inspire students' interest in learning. Education methods are based on culture. That is why a successful education method in one place may not work that well when simply 'transplanted' into another place."

Yang Dongping says, "The documentary does reflect some problems rooted in traditional Chinese teaching methods. Nobel prize winner, Yang Zhenning, gave a very fair comment on this issue. He said the Chinese-style education method works for most ordinary qualified students effectively, helping them reach high standards. However, it may weaken the training for high-potential outstanding students."

A conference was held with former technology industry leaders calling for urgent measures to protect children from smartphone addiction (上瘾).

Among those urging major changes is Tristan Harris—a former high-level employee at Google. He just launched a group that will seek to gather and publish evidence of how digital devices and social media can harm children and young people. Harris says he believes companies like Google, Facebook and Apple have a "moral responsibility" not to create technology products that can "hijack how the mind works".

The conference where Harris spoke was sponsored by Common Sense Media, a child and family activist group. The organization says research suggests that half of all teenagers feel addicted to their mobile devices, while about 60 percent of parents believe their kids are addicted.

The group also cites a recent study of eighth graders that found heavy users of technology were 56 percent more likely to say they are unhappy, while 27 percent more likely to be depressed. Even Facebook cited research last year suggesting that social media use can harm mental health when used in certain ways.

James Steyer is the founder of Common Sense. He says more than half of schools in the US are already members of the organization. The group provides teachers and parents with learning materials intended to help students develop critical thinking skills and balance their digital lives.

Some US schools, however, have tried to limit or remove technology to improve learning. One of them is in Silicon Valley, the center of the American tech-industry.

The Waldorf School of the Peninsula does not use any computers or digital technology in its education programs up to the seventh grade. The schools' website says while Waldorf teachers recognize the role technology can play in the classroom, it must wait until the student reaches the right developmental age. Normally when students reach high school, they are allowed to use computers and digital tools in the classroom.
