When I was 12, all I wanted was a signet(图章)ring. They were the “in” thing and it seemed every girl except me had one. On my 13th birthday, my Mum gave me a signet ring with my initials(姓名首字母) carved into it. I was in heaven.

    What made it even more special was that it was about the only thing that wasn't being “replaced”. We'd been burnt out in fires that swept through our area earlier that year and had lost everything—so most of the “new” stuff(东 西)we got was rally just to replace what we'd lost. But not my ring. My ring was new.

    Then, only one month later, I lost it. I took if off before bed and it was missing in the morning. I was sad and searched everywhere for it. But it seemed to have disappeared. Eventually, I gave up and stopped looking for it. And two years later, we sold the house and moved away.

    Years passed, and a couple of moves later, I was visiting my parents' when Mum told me that she had something for me. It wasn't my birthday, nor was it Easter or Christmas or any other gift-giving occasion. Mum noticed my questioning look. “ You'll recognize this one.,” she said smiling.

    Then she handed me a small ring box. I took it from her and opened it to find my beautiful signet ring inside. The family who had bought our house 13 years earlier had recently decided to do some redecorations, which included replacing the carpets. When they pulled the carpet up in my old bedroom, they found the ring. As it had my initials carved into it. They realized who owned the ring. They'd had it professionally cleaned up by a jeweler before sending it to my mother. And it still fits me.

    Each year, the National Council of Teachers of English（NCTE）presents several awards to recognize outstanding books written for all age levels. Earlier this month at a book awards luncheon（午宴）held during their 107th Annual Convention，they announced the winner of the 2018 Charlotte Huck Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children.

    Dan Santat was named the winner of the 2018 Charlotte Huck Award for his novel AFTER THE FALL, the inspiring epilogue（后记）to the beloved classic nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. The Charlotte Huck Award was established in 2014 to promote and recognize fiction that has the potential to have a positive effect on children's lives. The award honors Dr. Charlotte Huck, a professor at Ohio State University who devoted her career to promoting the role of children's books in young people's academic, social, and emotional development. Each year，the committee selects a winner and recommended titles appropriate for children.

    “Charlotte Huck was a supporter for children's books as teaching tools,” says Erika Dawes, chair of the Charlotte Huck Award committee. “Books like these award winners, books that promote imagination, wonder and sympathy, fill a critical need in our classrooms.”

    Jason Chin was named winner of the 2018 Orbis Pictus Award for his book GRAND CANYON, an illuminating（启蒙的）look at one of the planet's most fascinating features. The Orbis Pictus Award, established in 1989, is the oldest children's book award for nonfiction.

    Honor and Recommended Books in each category were also announced at the awards luncheon, where the 2017 winners（Jason Reynolds and Melissa Sweet）delivered speeches. Dan Santat and Jason Chin are invited to speak at next year's Annual Convention.

    Michael Jackson was on the road of performing when he was five years old. As is known to all, the road to fame and fortune is a long, hard one.

    Michael remembers those early years when he was young." My father was a machine operator," he explained, "and he worked at a steel plant. My mother worked at Sears, a big department store. But they were both musicians."

    Michael's father Joe Jackson realized his sons had a lot of talent, and he knew he could train them to become fine musicians. In those days there were plenty of music groups and some of them were very good. He knew if his sons were to stand out, they would have to be the best.

    Practice makes perfect. And the Jackson boys practised! Gradually the group took shape. Then word of this group began to get around. Thus Michael got a chance to do some solo(独唱) songs. In the following years, Michael was always on the top. One million records of his were sold in New Zealand, which has only a total population of three million!

    When Michael was eighteen, he entered another field of his career(生涯)—acting. "I plan to star in movies," he told his friends, "but of course, my first love is music."

    Michael wrote a lot of his own songs. "Songs came about in the strangest ways," he said, "I'll just wake up from sleeping and there is a whole song coming into my head. And then I put it down on the paper."

    Still, with all his success, Michael managed to keep his head calm. "I just do a different job from other people," he said, "but it doesn't make me think I'm better than other people."

    To be quite honest, his fans just love to hear and watch him!

    Several years ago, Masaru Ibuka, chairman of Sony, was at a company planning a meeting. Suddenly he had a brilliant idea. He stopped the meeting and asked everyone present what would happen if Sony removed the recording function and speaker and sold headphones with a tape player instead. Almost everyone thought he was crazy. Still, Ibuka kept thinking about his idea and worked at improving it. The result, of course, turned out to be the wildly successful Sony Walkman.

    Good ideas often start with a seemingly silly question. Bill Bowerman was making breakfast one day. As he stood there making waffles (华夫饼干)for his son, he wondered what would happen if he poured rubber into his waffle iron. Later, he tried it and the result looked something like the bottom of most sports shoes we see today. Still, when he took this idea to several existing shoe companies, he was laughed at. In fact, every single company turned him down. Though rather discouraged, Bowerman insisted and went on to form his own company, making NIKE athletic shoes.

    Sometimes good ideas grow out of frustration .When Fred Smith was a student at Yale University, he had some paperwork that he needed to have delivered across the country the next day. Smith was amazed to find out that overnight delivery was impossible. He sat for a long while, lost in thought. Why couldn't there be a reliable overnight mail delivery service? He decided to design one. Smith did just that and turned his design into a class project.  His business professor gave him only a C for his efforts. However, Smith was not through. He improved the idea in that class project and finally turned it into one of the first and most successful overnight mail service in the world — FedEx.

    We know that each of these ideas led to a very successful product or service that has changed the way many of us live. The best questions are usually open-ended and are often silly, Children aren't afraid to ask such questions, but adults frequently are. Think how different the world might be if people never asked "silly" questions!

A person that's enthusiastic, determined and prepared to hug life's trials is a person we all want to be. If you want to be like that person then your first step is to always stay inspired. Taking the first step towards an inspired life is the most difficult part of the process, but after you take it you will never look back. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} He/She is a person who1wakes up every day more inspired than the next. Inspiration will lead you anywhere you want to go. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}

    ●Inspiration and genius(天才)—one and the same. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} In fact, many who we consider geniuses today were nothing more than extremely inspired individuals.
