After watching the 2002 Winter Olympic Games on TV at 3 years old, Little Nathan Chen became interested in winter sports. Nathan wanted to play ice hockey (冰上曲棍球), but his mom advised him to try figure skating(花样滑冰)first which she said was safer. After practicing a few times, Nathan fell in love with it.

Today, Nathan is influenced by all the athletes he meets. From the difficulties the athletes have faced and how they dealt with them, Nathan learns to work on dealing with his own difficulties as well. He describes all the athletes he trains with as role models for himself.

Nathan won gold at the 2017 ISU Grand Prix Final and 2017 Four Continents Championships, and silver at the 2016 ISU Grand Prix Final. Nathan has also broken a record, becoming the youngest man to win a medal at the 2017 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

However, this journey has not come without hard times. Nathan suffered a bad injury during the 2016 season and it took him quite a long time to be able to compete again. At the beginning of the 2018 Olympics, Nathan was expected to win gold but got 5th place in the end. Nathan later described the race as "just me being on the ice and enjoying myself", free from all the pressures. What matters the most isn't the results, but the great memories you get from the experience and the joy of being able to do something you love.

This fall, Nathan will be attending Yale University and work on managing his time as a student and athlete. Aside from figure skating, Nathan would like to learn how to box. Besides, he plans to learn biology and later become a doctor.

    Ask any kid, and you'll likely hear that time spent with friends is the coolest and most important part of the school day. Educators, as well, acknowledge that making friends is one of the most valuable things children do as they learn and grow.     Could the device, smartphone or PC,which you're using affect the moral decisions you make when using it? To test it, researchers presented multiple dilemmas to a sample set of 1,010 people. The participants were assigned a device at random.

    One case of the questions participants were asked is the classic “trolley (有轨电车) problem”: A runaway trolley is headed towards five people tied up on a set of train tracks. You can do nothing, resulting in the deaths of five people, or push a man off a bridge, which will stop the trolley. The practical response is to kill one man to save five lives, which 33.5 percent of smartphone users chose, compared to 22.3 percent of PC users.

    “What we found in our study is that when people used a smartphone to view classic moral problems, they were more likely to make more unemotional, reasonable decisions when presented with a highly emotional dilemma, ”Dr Albert Barque-Duran, the lead author of the study, told City, University of London. “This could be due to the increased time pressure often present with smartphones and also the increased psychological distance which can occur when we use such devices compared to PCs.”

    As for why the researchers started this study, Dr Barque-Duran noted, “Due to the fact that our social lives, work and even shopping take place online, it is important to think about how the contexts where we typically face moral decisions and are asked to engage in moral behavior have changed, and the impact this could have on the hundreds of millions of people who use such devices daily.” It's clear that we need more research on how our devices affect our moral decision making because we're using screens at an ever-increasing rate.

    My six-year-old son, Stephen, was in front of the TV and smiled. His favorite show was about to begin-a Phoenix Suns basketball game.

    "Ladies and gentlemen," the announcer's voice was heard, "here is your starting lineup (首发阵容)." The arena (球场) darkened and the lights flashed when the players ran into the court to sing their team song. Stephen clapped and danced around. My wife Lorrie and I laughed. Stephen had been performing this for months. "One day I'm going to take you to a game, son," I promised.

    About a year later, the construction company where I worked finished a project for a Suns player. One afternoon my boss called me. "The player has two extra tickets for tonight's game! Just pick them up at my office," he said. I picked up the tickets, but felt a little disappointed when I looked at the clock. Even if I had had a helicopter, we would never have gone to the arena in time for the player introductions. Stephen would miss his favorite part! I grabbed my key, got Stephen in my car and hit the road. "Lord," I prayed, "I'd love to see the joy on Stephen's face. Help us make it on time."

    When I drove, it began to rain heavily. Suddenly, lightning flashed right near the arena! I turned on the radio to listen to the game. The announcer said there'd been a power failure at America West Arena. Everyone was fine, but there would be a delay until they got everything running. Finally, I parked the car and we walked in hurriedly to take our seats. I hoped that we hadn't missed the introductions.

    The very moment we entered the arena, the lights darkened. The music started. "Ladies and gentlemen, here's your starting lineup!" Stephen's eyes grew wide. There wasn't enough space for him to dance around, but I could tell that his heart was leaping more than his body was able to. Thank heaven, he hadn't missed a thing. And neither had I.
