Once there lived a rich man{#blank#}1{#/blank#}wanted to do something for the people of his town.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}first he wanted to find out whether they deserved his help.

    In the centre of the main road into the town, he placed {#blank#}3{#/blank#} very large stone. Then he {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(hide ) behind a tree and waited. Soon an old man came along with his cow.

    "Who put this stone in the centre of the road?" said the old man, but he did not try to remove the stone. Instead, with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}man came along and did the same thing; then another came ,and another. All of them complained about the stone but not tried to remove {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Late in the afternoon a young man came along. He saw the stone, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(say) to himself: "The night {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(be) very dark. Some neighbors will come along later in the dark and will fall against the stone."

    Then he began to move the stone. He pushed and pulled with all his{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(strong) to move it. How great was his surprise at last! {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the stone, he found a bag of money.

    A neighborhood watch is an {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (organize) group of people who have volunteered to help prevent crime in their neighbourhood. They do this by {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (keep) an eye on their neighbors' households, patrolling the streets and contacting the police when they see wrong {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (activity). Neighbourhood watches have {#blank#}4{#/blank#} of history, but they{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (introduce) to modem American cities after the public was shocked {#blank#}6{#/blank#}( hear) how a woman was murdered in New York city while a number of witnesses stood by and did nothing. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(recent), however, some people have strongly objected to the organization after n neighborhood watchman shot to death a black teenager, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} was on his way home in the evening. The shooting has led to a new suggestion {#blank#}9{#/blank#} neighborhood watchmen shouldn't carry guns while on patrol. Many neighborhood watch committees disagree {#blank#}10{#/blank#} this idea, saying that it will discourage volunteers from patrolling more dangerous districts. Besides, since Florida state law allows the carrying of guns, such advice is useless.

    I was only in China for about 4 months last year. I stayed in Shanghai and visited some other cities {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (include) Beijing. While the price feels a bit too much for a high speed train, the Chinese infrastructure (基础建设) is {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (true) far ahead of any other developing country and even some developed ones in Europe. The train stations are as big {#blank#}3{#/blank#} airports: almost everything in {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (they) is like airports. They have all the high standards of airports but without the waiting time. The trains are just like those from Germany or France, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} are clean, modern and highly developed and run at very high speeds. It is about 1,200 kms from Shanghai to Beijing, and each high speed train {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (take) around 4 and a half hours to reach its destination and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} are more than 2 trains every hour, each day.

    I also had the experience of {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (sit) in Maglev (磁力悬浮列车) in Shanghai. There is a public maglev train that runs from Shanghai city to its international airport. The {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (distant) from the city to the airport is 40 kms and the speed of the train is 430 kms/hr. It took us just around 6 mins {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (cover) 40 kms and it felt rather smooth.
