There are many kinds of trees. All trees have roots. The roots hold trees in the ground. The roots soak up ( 吸收 ) water and food. Then trees get water and food from the roots. You can't see inside a tree. But you can study how water moves through trees.

    First, get a stalk ( 茎 ) of celery ( 芹菜 ) and cut off its end. Put red colour in a cup of water. Then put the stalk of the celery into the red water. Then we can see the red water moving up in the celery easily.

    After half an hour, take the celery out. Cut it in half. Your celery should be red. This is because the water moved up the stalk. Water moves through trees in the same way as it moved through the celery.

Turn right and walk along the street to the Place du Tertre. Every day, hundreds of street artists paint pictures and {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(卖)them in this square. Opposite the square is the Church of Saint-Pierre. Built in {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(四月)1147, it is one of the oldest churches in France. After visiting the Church of Saint-Pierre, go to Sacré-Coeur, a big white church on the top of the Montmartre Hill. Standing here, you can see most of Paris on a c{#blank#}8{#/blank#}day.

An Interview with Andy Griffiths

Andy Griffiths is well known as a writer of children's books. Here are some interesting things you might not know about him.

What do you like to do after a long day of writing?

I go for long runs and bike rides beside the beach. An hour of exercise after a long day of writing gives me energy. Then I'm ready to write some more.

Do you write using a computer or by hand?

At first write the stories by hand, and then transfer (转录) them onto computer. I like to write by hand when travel. I find it very easy to lose myself in my diary when I am away from my usual activities.

What super power would you like to have?

X-ray-vision (影像) if can control it.

What is your favorite food?

I'm never happier than when I'm drinking banana milkshakes. And I love fish. But I don't like drinking fish milkshakes. They are just terrible!

What is your favorite book?

Alice in Wonderland. It has so many surprises and such silliness in it.

Do you write for adults too?

Only if I really have to. I much prefer the freedom and fun of writing for children.

What do you say to kids who say,"Why should I read?"

As Dr. Seuss says, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."

How are you? I'm glad to tell you something {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the lantern Festival. It is one of the most important {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(tradition) festivals in China. We like the lantern Festival because we can enjoy beautiful {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(lantern) at night. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(usual) we eat a kind of sweet rice dumpling called yuanxiao and go to watch colourful lanterns with our family. The round shape of yuanxiao stands for family {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(reunion). What's more, there are also riddles hanging on them. Guessing riddles is a must during the festival. But not everyone {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(know) the right answers. When it gets dark, it {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(look) beautiful everywhere with lots of lanterns. We also enjoy festive {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(firework) or set off firecrackers(鞭炮). {#blank#}9{#/blank#} great fun! I always play with my friends {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (relax).

 You must have heard of"city bu city"(meaning city or not city), an internet buzzword(流行语) created by foreign blogger Baobaoxiong. It's used to ask if a place feels like a big, fashionable city. 

 Millions of foreigners like Baobaoxiong are visiting China and posting their travel videos. The visa-free transit policy (过境免签政策) plays an important role in this trend(潮流). Travelers from 54 countries can stay in China for up to six days without a visa as long as they have a travel document(文件) and a connecting ticket(联运机票) to leave. 

 The visa-free transit policy started in 2013. Back then, it allowed travelers to stay for 72 hours in seven different big cities in China. Now, travelers can stay for 144 hours in 41 places 19 across 19 provincial areas . It has attracted more travelers to China . In the first three months of this year, 266 percent more foreigners came to China through visa-free policies compared with the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration of China (国家移民)管理局).

"This is the whole reason why we decided to come to China. We want to see exactly what it's like by ourselves, " said Irish YouTuber Luke in his online video. He thought Chengdu was unbelievably good, beautiful and modern totally different from what ho had heard about China from Western media.

 Yuyuantantian, a new media account(账号) under China Media Group, looked at 100 China travel videos made by foreigners. It found foreigners used to visit famous spots like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. But now they prefer experiencing everyday activities like shopping at markets, riding shared bikes and joining square dancing in parks. These activities give foreigners a closer look at everyday life in China, said Yuyuantantian.
