Getting back into a routine can be a challenge. If you ever wanted to understand how you could succeed in school, you're in luck. Here are some of the tips from the teachers to help you succeed in the next school year.
Use a calendar or chart (图表).
Hang a calendar on your refrigerator or somewhere else. This helps you remember things you need to do. You can also make a chart. Then, use colorful pens to circle or draw a line under your homework, reading tasks or other activities. By using a chart, you learn how to plan for your studies.
Visit the bookstore or library every few weeks to find a new book to read on your own. The more kids get excited about reading on their own, the more their self-confidence will rise. They'll also be better equipped to deal with challenging homework assignments.
Unplug for success.
Families should have a no electronics period when everyone turns off their devices (设备). It's amazing how you can reconnect with yourself and others when you're not distracted (分散注意力) by technology.
Stay current.
Take a current-events article and look at the history of the event in an attempt to better understand its importance.
A. Book is a treat.
B. Stay up-to-date on some events.
C. Do keep papers and notes organized.
D. We already went straight to the source.
E. This way, families can spend time together.
F. Communicate with the teenagers outside school.
G. Write down special tasks, activities and important dates on it.
In today's busy and competitive world, we all lead incredibly stressful lives. When stress becomes overwhelming, it can affect our mood and productivity. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} The good news is that it is manageable and can be reduced, or even relieved completely.
Enter the world of books. Feeling stressed out? Pick up your favorite book and leave the reality and worries behind. It is the most effective way to relax and overcome stress. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Getting lost in a book before bedtime can calm your mind and prepare your body for a good night's sleep.
Connect with people. Another way to successfully beat stress is meeting with friends. Friends and loved ones are important to any healthy lifestyle. If you're feeling a little overwhelmed and just can't seem to shake it off, call your best friend or a member of your family and talk to them. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}
Walk it off. You can also effectively relieve yourself of stress by simply taking a walk around your neighborhood. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} There's a whole new world up there that you never seem to notice while rushing to work or talking to someone. Take a moment to admire a new building or a balcony somewhere high up that reminds you of a castle from your favorite movie. Enjoy your time alone and seize every moment of it.
{#blank#}5{#/blank#} Nothing brings you back on track like a good laughter. It is the most powerful antidote(良方) to stress and it brings joy into your life. Laughing brings people together and drives away all stress-related problems as if they never existed. It is absolutely the best medicine there is, and it will keep you both physically and emotionally healthy.
A. Laugh it off. B. Take some medicine. C. As you walk, remember to look up. D. Reading may also help you sleep better. E. Your hobby could be reading books, or even writing one. F. But most importantly, it can affect our physical and mental health. G. The conversation with a close person will immediately make you feel better. |
How to Be Confident
We are all human and have weaknesses. Even if your physical appearance or social skills aren't what you wish they were, that doesn't have to stop you from being confident. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
*Make a list of special talents you have, or things you do that are good—morally(道德上) or otherwise. It doesn't have to be a specific skill;it can be an approach or an attitude that you hold through life. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Are you very patient with people? Do you always see the humorous side of things? Are you always there for your friends?
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} When you feel strongly about something, speak loudly and clearly and make eye contact with people. People will judge you all the time, and usually they'll misjudge you anyway, so why bother trying to live up to their opinions at all?
*Take care of yourself. Eat a healthy diet and get enough exercise. Don't abuse your body, don't overload it, and don't deny it any of the things it needs. At the same time, don't obsess(沉迷). {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Those things are only band-aids(权宜之计) and make-up. Confidence comes from within. In order to be confident, you must value yourself and understand that your well-being is important.
*Improve your posture. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Don't drop your shoulders. Make sure that your back is straight, your shoulders are square, and your chest sticks out slightly (but stay loose, otherwise you'll appear stubborn (固执的)and nervous). Good posture also helps with deep breathing, which helps with feeling calm and relaxed.
A. Here's how to believe in yourself. B. But smiling at yourself in the mirror helps you to love yourself, thus making you a bit more confident. C. Buying all the moisturizers (润肤霜) and creams will not bring you closer to who you want to be. D. It is surprising how powerful the simple step of taking action can be. E. Do you always stay calm, cool and collected, even in hurried situations? F. Having good posture can actually make you feel more confident. G. Know that you have important things to say and do. |
A. Don't trust the local water B. Any fruit served fresh may be polluted C. Look out for any water not served in a bottle D. The boxes may be cleaner than the plate or fork on the table E. You should know how to keep yourself away from dirty fruits F. They are necessary to avoid coming back with a major illness from your trip G. Parasites (寄生虫)can enter the skin of your feet and travel to different parts of the body |
Summer is the perfect time to relax. As you plan for your trip, here are some tips on how to protect yourself. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}.
Fight against the mosquitoes in the hot spots.
There are many mosquito-borne illnesses in tropical regions, which are traditionally vacation hot spots. Therefore, mosquito repellent (驱蚊剂) that contains DEET should be an essential item in your travel bag.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}.
In lesser-developed countries there is less equipment for clean water and public health. If you can't avoid unhealthful water, make sure you bring along a tea or coffee—making pot that will boil water for you. You'd better buy a case or two of water and check that all bottle caps are sealed to assure the bottled water isn't just a refilled bottle of dirty tap water.
Always protect your feet.
It's best to wear slippers in the shower, but if you must be barefoot, put a towel down on the floor. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. You should never walk barefoot in any area of a foreign country, including your hotel room.
Be sure to eat safe fruits.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. They may have been washed in the same water, or wiped with the same rag used to clean work surfaces in kitchens. The best advice is to bring your own peeler(削皮器)so that you know that something clean has been applied to the fruit.
Enjoy the smell of roadside stands, not the food.
Unless the food is piping hot when served, it's best to stay away from roadside stands, no matter how good the smell of the food might be. If you are concerned about whether a restaurant is clean, order the food to go. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}.
A. How much money can you spend? B. How easy will it be to find a teacher? C. Don't let your physical shortcomings put you off. D. A piece of music might move you more than another. E. Talk to people who already play musical instruments. F. Practicing the drums, for example, will drive your neighbors crazy. G. If you want to learn a musical instrument, you might face a problem: what to play? |
Playing a musical instrument can be a fun and rewarding hobby. It's a good way to express feelings and develop confidence in your abilities. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Here are a few questions to help you decide.
What kind of music do you like?
What you are interested in will encourage you to play. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Traditional orchestra musical instruments are what you hear in classical music. Modern music calls for modern instruments, like electric guitars.
Where are you going to practice?
{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Think about where and when you are going to practice, as well as the patience of the people you live with or near. Some instruments like the guitar give you the chance of playing in the night using earphones, while your housemates sleep in peace. Also, you may need to consider going to a school or a music center to practice.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}
This is quite a big problem. A lot of instruments can be bought in different price ranges. But this doesn't change the fact that many instruments, such as the piano, are always expensive. If you can't afford your chosen instrument, will you be able to borrow someone else's?
Are there any physical limitations?
If you are small and don't like lifting heavy objects, you won't want to carry around a cello (大提琴). If you don't have great lung power, think twice about the saxophone. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} But remember that with the right coaching, everyone can develop the right skills.
